Yeah, Phillies won last year.
In the decade of 2000, the Yankees are now in their third World Series. Hmmm....
In their history, they are now in their 40th. Hmmm.... Of which they have won 26. Hmmm....
In 2009, the Yankees won 103 games, the Phillies 93. My simple math says we won 10 more.

I'll bite even further.
Here are the 2009 stats for both on things that shed "excitement".

Runs Phillies 820 Yankees 915
Hits Phillies 1439 Yankees 1604
HRs Phillies 224 Yankees 244
RBI Phillies 788 Yankees 881
Avg. Phillies .258 Yankees .283
Slugging Phillies .447 Yankees .478

Add 103 wins to 93 and I can clearly see why you think the Phillies are a more exciting team. As I said earlier, blind.

Noting that I am not the defender of the Phillies. Stats don't always equate to wins (or your definition on "things that shed excitement"). While the Yankees are the stat champs, the Phillies are the current World Champs and will be the 2009 World Champs as well. I'll smoke a good one during the victory parade in Philadelphia after game 6.

I was simply addressing your point the Phillies are a more exciting team.
If the Yankees get more hits, more runs, better batting average, better slugging average, and more wins, how can one say the Phillies are more exciting unless you have very dark glasses in a very dark room. What then constitutes excitement may be the question to ask.

If the Phillies win, they will have beaten the best team in baseball in 2009 and will tip my hat to them. I just won't insult them or any Phillies fan by thinking it could be done in 5 or 6. This is not the first two rounds of the playoffs. This winds it down to the two best. I frankly see this going 7 and ending in NY, with long sad bus ride home to Philadelphia for the Phillies.

All can keep highlighting this comment all you want.

The point of the stats was not to show a guaranteed win. I am no fool and have seen many underdogs win in my 50 years on this Earth.

The point of the stats was that a comment was made that the Phillies were a more "exciting" team. I highlighted stats that to me and most anyone, illustrates the Yankees far exceeding the Phillies in all categories.

So, while stats don't guarantee a win, watching a team that hit more times on base, slammed more balls out of the park, had a better slugging percentage and WON 10 more games, more walk off wins and have the best closing reliever to have played the game, it is hard to say the Phillies are more exciting. However, I guess beauty is in the eyes of the beholder and we are often blinded into believing things that are not always as one sees them. Let's just say the Phillies in 3 as that seems to be possible in the eyes of some Phillies fans as the Yankees may not show up for game 4 and quit.

That's probably why I'm still a Reds fan, Carlos.

Hey Carlos, something came to me tonight while watching the game. If the Phillies were able to plug a DH into the lineup every game, their stats would be awfully similar.

Or maybe I'm not thinking straight and am not seeing it right....you know, blind.

Not really. If they had the DH every game that would mean they'd be playing in the AL east, and with the record they had wouldn't have made the playoffs

Lee pitched great. CC pitched ok. It's only one game, still a lot of baseball to be had.

Uh.....yeah.....okay.

I was looking at the stats Carlos listed. Not sure how that equates to "not really". And to think the Phillies wouldn't have made the playoffs is an assumption. I, on the other hand, assume they would have. Maybe if they win back to back World Series you'll give them some credit.

I was looking at stats too. They had a worse record than the Red Sox and Angels, if they played everyday with a DH they would not have made the playoffs with the record they had. I don't think having Ben Francisco or Matt Stairs in the field everyday would have very much impact.

I do give them credit, they have a great team. If you look over my posts there is no Philly hate. This is the match up I wanted, I even made a post two months back stating so. I reserve my burning hatred for the Red Sox
