Clearly you've never lived in Massachusetts before. Our laws especially those surrounding alcohol are extremely puritanical and out dated. It wasn't too long ago liquor stores couldn't be open on Sunday and they were the only places you could buy beer, wine, and hard alcohol outside of a bar/restaurant. I wouldn't be surprised if some of these laws had made it much more difficult for them to sell beer on site.

The reason this is such big news IMO is not that they're selling beer but rather that they're selling a limited edition beer. I haven't had any of them yet but they sound like some really interested brews too.
