My late mother started a tradition of feeding the birds at the homestead so in her honor, I'm keeping the feeders stocked up for them and the occasional squirrel who can outsmart the squirrel proof ones. |

Squirrel baffles work if the feeder is high enough off the ground and not close to any trees or over hanging branches. They are masters of getting into feeders and will invite their buddies to join them. I tried squirrel feeders, but they want the good stuff, so baffles or a more permanent solution is needed.

.22 and a cast iron pot works for me.
Shoot the squirrel. Skin, clean and quarter. Season and dredge in flour and brown in hot grease in a cast iron dutch oven. Add onions, garlic, carrots and potatoes. Cover and place in 375 degree oven for about 2 hours. Serve with french bread.
