Shenanigans aside, take a serious look at the EcoBee3. We've had one for about six months and we are incredibly happy with it. You can adjust if from the internet. With the app you can do it from your phone or smart watch. And if you're an Apple user it is compatible with the new Apple Home stuff.

Also I discovered coincidently that the app for the wireless meat thermometer I use for my smoker is compatible with it as well
