then I just tapped out. Unlistenable by the mid 80s. Every time I hear "Subdivisions" all I can think is Mr. Roboto.

Check out the remastered Vapor Trails, Snakes and Arrows, Clockwork Angels. Those are albums of the modern era where Rush returned to more straight forward crunchy hard rock.
