I have always wondered, ever since watching the Robin Williams standup comedy where he jokes about this.... do they really shoot air up your ass to puff out the intestine ahead?

Yes and Yes.

Afterwards, I was in a room full of other guys who along with me, were told it was perfectly fine to fart up a storm and to not be embarrassed..........and we obliged.
