Story goes that Neil showed up outside the park and called the switchboard and said "Hi I'm Neil Diamond and I'm here. Can I sing? Will you let me sing Sweet Caroline today?" The guy is just amazing and yes I can't believe they dropped the ball on that and couldn't freaking download an instrumental version at the very least. Here's the picture he tweeted out after.
