Ben, it's truly an heirloom piece. I can hardly pick it up, it's solid 3/4" cherry all over.
I struggled with using metal glides, I thought that would take away from the "heirloom" of it, but I made it so they can be very easily replaced if necessary and I used very good stuff.
The only concern is that the grease on them will turn gummy and gross in a few years. At that point I'll clean it all off and use mineral oil. That should stay for the next 1000 years.
