I just picked up some red oak and some poplar to try out. The red oak looks like it will be good to do a smaller photo on and then stain the edges like a frame.

You should make wooden ash trays and put an image in them.

Here's one I did for a buddy of mine to hang up in his garage.

Since its a racing plaque I tried to make the edges look like burn out marks. I think it turned out pretty cool
