This has been my preference or motto since day one.

I don't even know what roll it off means
Me either except like Stinky said to do it, which I have before, but only to clean up some flakiness off my ash.

Interesting observation I've noticed since bringing out the Stinky Cigar Ashtrays . . . I've noticed that a lot of cigar smokers 'roll' their ash on the stirrup of an ashtray (all makes, brands and models). I find that inconsiderate. I sit down with a cigar and go to put it down on the stirrup and find someone has rubbed their cigar-smutz all over the stirrup. Where the FU** do you think the next guy can set his cigar? Ever seen that?

Rolling the Ash Off:
all that means is that you roll the loose ash particles off of your cigar to clean the ash so it doesn't flake off. Agree: it's a very personal preference! It really doesn't matter and certainly doesn't affect your cigar smoke, flavor or aroma one single bit! Of course, this is just my own personal opinion!
I've never experienced anyone using the stirrup yet, that just seems asinine to me, why??

Thanks for all the responses guys, yeah he is a douche, but he's my mom's bf....kinda so I have to keep the peace & he doesn't smoke anymore and said his go to when he did was ONYX and to only order from Thompson.

I had to bite my tongue.

Brutal and I know the feeling. I often find myself biting my tongue with my wifes family even though I just want to verbally blast them most of the time. The last time was a couple weekends ago when my freeloading brother in-law was over and saw my overflowing cabinet and humis and his comment was, "Sure looks like a lot of cancer to me." I literally wanted to just say "F-U, you Mary." Keep in mind this is the same guy when we would have a party or BBQ where drinking was taking place always asked if I had anything fruity. He finally stopped asking and got the hint when the last time he asked me that question I embarrassed him and said "Nothing but my fruity brother in-law." My wife even chuckled but I did eat a lot of sh*t for not keeping that comment to myself later that night when he went home and whined and cried to his wife who in turn gave my wife a load of crap. He's the guy who has no problem dishing it out but never being able to take it. OK, back on topic. Your situation triggered a little pent up frustration that needed to be released.

This question has never come up. Given that of the guys I normally smoke with, only one has what I would consider a sound knowledge of cigars (and that sure isn't me!)...and the fact that our favourite ashtray is a damaged Dana35 diff cover sitting on the middle of a 1/4" thick steel work bench, ashing technique has never really bin a topic of discussion

But...we smoke what we like, and we like what we smoke

You were the only one to comment on that.

Yeah I pretty much threw anything he said out the window when he mentioned Thompson.

I say send him a fruity sampler from Thompson's with his credit card information. Fruity cigars and catalogs

I tap usually and sometimes roll. Depends if I'm indoors our outdoors.
