Ted, I have an Ambassador and bought a foam kit from Ebay. It came with three pieces. The eggcrate for the top and two pieces for the bottom. The top looks to be a couple inches from the tips of the points to the bottom of the pad. The tips are almost flush with the edges of the top. The other pieces are a little over 1/2" thick. I like the versatility of being able to take out foam as needed. For the big herfs I take out all the foam and just load it with fivers. For a normal one day affair I use the top and a single bottom piece.

Thanks, amigo!
I guess I was worried more about the foam being "too thick" rather than "too thin", bit it sounds like that is not the case (no pun intended) Did you have to trim the edges of the egg shell, or did it fit perfectly when received?

All the foam fits perfectly. The smaller pieces have the corners trimmed a bit. There are no cutouts in the top foam(the original has cutouts for the hygrometer and credo). Dan(Dball) has a cool mod to add a LED strip for lighting.
