I agree with this point, but that doesn't make someone less of a douche for trying to triple-key a retail product

Exactly. I thought it went against the spirit of the Asylum.

There's no price policing here. If you don't like something at a particular price, don't buy. It's that simple.

True, but most members aren't jacking up prices either. Quite the contrary, most WTS threads are at or in some cases well below retail.

In a lot of cases, people price below retail because that's what it takes to sell something. I don't know about you, but it's very rare for me to pay retail on any cigars. I can buy a lot of cigars for 20-30% below retail on virtually any regular production cigar out there. On the other hand, items of limited quantities will have higher demand, thus the price goes up.

I'm not going to play this game with all of these limited edition cigars. I'm not convinced these cigars are necessarily any better than any regular production cigars and refuse to participate in the whole waiting list or 1 cigar per person type of limit. Thus, whether it's Pete Johnson or anyone else, they can use their marketing to sucker in a lot of other people just because they make something of limited quantities with a cool looking box.

Agreed, but in my case it's because I'd rather not find a cigar I love, then not be able to get my hands on any more.
Having said that, it does seem like PJ did a good job of addressing issues from the last two years. The Faces seem to be much more readily available than the previous sticks.

I should have complained when I was at Corona last month and saw the pre-embargo habanos for $150-$200. There's no way they paid that much for them 50 years ago.

They have them for a lot more than that too.

I remember a bunch of home builders on a convention a few years ago buying rounds of pre-embargos for clients on their company's coin. That was pre-recession 2008 though and you don't see that as often with home builders.

I walked right past the Face last week and grabbed a maduro Cabaiguan instead probably because I'm afraid of the Face and I know I love Cabaiguans.

Does that make me a capitalist socialist?

I'd say it makes you practical and sensible.

Got any stocks that you'll sell me at your cost even though it's going for 2-3X that? Or do you pull the trigger at what the going market rate is?

Cool story bro.

But we're talking about OUR community and cigars, not the stock market. I see what you're getting it, but you are looking at this as cigars for profit. We all go to whatever retailer we want for that in order to take care of that end of this market

When it comes to OUR community, there is the unwritten law of the Brotherhood. It's why we call each other BOTLs. Generally speaking we don't buy up supplies of cigars and then come here to try and Gordon Gecko our Brothers.

So selling cigars to our Brothers and selling stocks is Apples to Oranges.

I'm not looking at it from just a profit standpoint. I'm just commenting that there are people (not saying this applies to anyone here) who like to sit on the sidelines and are only interested in something once demand is high and supply is gone. They just want to complain that they can't get in the game at the original price when everyone else went through the hassle trying to find their own stash.

I don't begrudge anyone for making a buck. If it's not a price I'm willing to pay, I just move on. What about the fools who participate in the black Friday sales and stand in line all night long to get some door buster price? Should I complain that I don't get the same price when I slept in until noon?

It's all about perceived value as well. If I buy a box of these cigars for $150 or whatever, maybe I really want to keep them, but for the right price, I might let them go. Remember-EVERYTHING is for sale.
