I don't really smell my cigars when I am not smoking them. When I do smoke one, I like to enjoy smelling it before lighting it, and also tasting the pre-draw.

I sniff my cigars all the time. Sometimes I can tell if a given batch is still in its sick period by sniffing them. Other times I just open the humi and take a nice deep sniff of that wonderful earthy/foliage smell....
