Anyone with experience with either Spartan Race or Warrior Dash?

As the title states. I'm gonna sign my wife and I up for both a Warrior Dash this summer, and a Spartan Race this September. Wondering if any of you guys have any experience, etc.

Brian, I ran the WD last summer and have signed up for this years. Great race to run. What kind of info you looking for?

We ran one of the later time slots. By then, some of the obstacles had changed a bit. One was sand hills. By the time we ran, they had been trampled down and weren't as high as earlier in the day. Not hard at all. The ones with mud, were even more muddy. Made it more fun if you ask me.

If you can, try and get up to the front of your starting group. I was at the back of ours and had to dodge all the walkers for the first mile. It also causes backups at the first few obstacles, again, slowing you down.

Let me know if there's anything else you want to know.

Just basic info, what the course was like, would you do it again (Which you answered), good starting type (I think there are 3 types of races)

I'm not sure if all races are laid out the same, but I'm sure they're close. All depends on what's at the location. I only had a problem with the water obstacle, trying to get up onto the plastic drums anchored in the water. Luckily there were people helping each other up and over. The big rope a-frame ladder at the end had me concerned, but I saw some pretty out of shape people going over. I figured if they could do it, so could I.

I know they have even harder WD races now, with the popularity of other races like Tough Mudder. Is the regular WD going to really push you, maybe if you're not in decent shape. When I ran they were taping two people for the show "Extreme Makeover Weightloss Edition".

My Wife and I are in really good shape, so I'm thinking it'll easily be doable.

Yea, shouldn't be a problem. I'm working on my upper body strength so I can pull myself out of the water this next go.

Oh, wear either an old pair of shoes, or go buy some cheapos. You will not want them after you're done. There's a big pile at the end that they clean up and donate. Also bring a change of clothes for the ride home.

I had bought a pimp suit costume to wear. You'll see a lot of people dressed up in all kinds of get ups. I ended up not wearing it and glad I didn't. I probably would've drowned at the water obstacle. :D my shorts and tshirt were so water logged, I ditched the shirt not to long after that. Something like running shorts would work best since they won't get water logged. I had on cotton athletic shorts, not the best choice there either.

Your wife is in better shape than you. You will do fine. I have talked to some of the guys in my unit that have done it. They said it was a blast. You have to think these are guys that are more busted up than i am.

Mud runs are a blast. Plan on going and having fun, but not running a super fast time. There are backlogs on some of the the obsticals, and half the fun is working together to give each other a hand.
