Re: My RNY and my New Life
i cant believe that my 1 year anniversary of my RNY is only 12 days away.
i know this thread has been slow and getting old, but i cant remember how many times ive read it, post by post, to see the journey from the beginning to present.. It makes me happy to see all the support i received from my brothers.. It also puts me back in check and remember my journey.. Ive never been one to document anything; im not much of a writer.. However this thread and its participants has been medicine to my soul.. I remember my entire life, always wondering what it would be like to be "normal".. I remember pacing in front of the refrigerator sometimes, in the middle of the night, while "dieting".. I remember telling my parents that id give my life savings to be normal. In 30 years, i was never abke to go to a mall and buy clothes.. Just as cigars are a slippery slope; declining health is the same way... I never understood the lifestyle change that was needed.. This has given me the tools to get my life on path.. And while this "new me" is literally something that i saw in my dreams for half of my life, it has been bumpy.. Anxiety. Fear. Discouragement. Confusion. Uncertainty. You name it.... This has been the hardest thing i've ever had to do, and surprisingly the weight part wasn't the hard portion.. It was the understanding how to live life on the other side of the coin.. Heck, im still not sure how to adjust to it.. I know a few members on here who have had this done, and i am fairly certain that they are the only ones who can truly relate to this from a psychological standpoint. Nothing wrong with it.. Its just how it is.. While i type this, i think back at all the things that have changed.. As a guy who is about to turn 32, its tough to understand "changes" that are seemingly happening in warp speed.. But I guess it was me who signed up for the change, so sometimes you have to take on a few bumps even when you travel the right path I could literally write here for hours; all the trials and tribulations of this road, however without trying to sound like a pretentious douchebag, i will reprieve for the night and say thank you.. Thank you to god, and to the people that have been a part of my life, for better and for worse.. And to my brothers who have supported me on here.. Thank you |

Re: My RNY and my New Life
Wow... I haven't posted on this one before, but I am just blown away. Ron, your before and after pictures are just unbelievable. I am impressed - congratulations.
I checked in because while I am not obese per se, I am overweight and its the same story... Mental work with lots of sitting, fast food, beer, etc. Im trying to stop it before it gets out of hand. Im starting at 240 and working to get down below 200 again. I may never be the highschool 165, but Id like to get close. More muscle mass would be nice too - Im pretty strong but not defined. |
Re: My RNY and my New Life
Wow Ron... my first time seeing all this... Way to go man...
Out of curiosity... before your procedure what protein bars were you using for your meal replacements? |
Re: My RNY and my New Life

thanks man! and the protein bars are MetRX Big 100 Meal Replacement bars.. they did me right! |
Re: My RNY and my New Life
maintenance is steady.. balancing between 169-171 for a while now
starting to play organized basketball again.. this is surreal for me |
Re: My RNY and my New Life
167.8 after 8 games of full court basketball this weekend.. ran 12 miles the week before..
this is fun :) |
Re: My RNY and my New Life
Read through this inspirational thread today. Wow, is all I can say. I weighed 218 when I retired from the Navy and I thought that was bad.
I lost 40 lbs since then and have maintained it for almost a year now. I'm about 177-178 today (haven't weighed myself in a couple days). I did it by exercising and counting what calories I burned and consumed. The loseit! app helped me do that. Anyhow - excellent work, brother. You should be proud of your accomplishment and the discipline it took to get there. I have a co-worker who had that surgery and he's still pretty fat, although he did drop 125 or so. (I think he was 400+) |
Re: My RNY and my New Life
thank you so much man.! keep up the good work yourself.. its all about lifestyle change.. i can still eat food that i want.. just watch my portions and eat healthy as much as i can.. i used MyFitnessPal and it did a great job of logging all my intake! what a great help indeed
btw, thank you for your service! |

Re: My RNY and my New Life
thank you so much Joel..! means alot man..
i know its hard not to play the numbers game once you get "locked in", but i guess my body just took to it pretty well.. alot of people in my support groups dont work out, and they just dont seem to lose as much weight, and they have alot of skin problems, etc.. i dont know what i would do if i couldnt work out, bike ride, run, play basketball nowadays..! |
