Re: Losing Weight with Starscream

minus two this week. Prolly not realistic to be under 300 by the SH, but I'll be damn close. As long as I keep losing, I'm happy. Major goal is 250 by next April. Very doable methinks, even with the Holidays and mama's cookies aplenty!

It's amazing how much of a workout ping pong can be. I'm beat and dripping wet after a few hours of hitting that little ball!

Congrats Hugh and Jeff :tu

Walked by a mirror today and noticed a real difference in my love handles.
I just get sexier by the day! :D

Weigh in on Sunday, been real good this week, and hoping to get some walking in tomorrow.
I'm getting to the point where I'm looking forward to my weigh in, instead of dreading it! :tu

193.8 this morning. I was playing with my diet, trying to see how much potassium I can take. I played myself right into "could barely move last night" and I spent most of the day laid up. :D
It's back to cereal, noodles and rice for old Dad here. I actually started yesterday morning, but it didn't spare me from the nonsense that comes from not being vigilant. Today I feel like a washing machine stuck on spin cycle that fell off the back of a truck, and that's a huge improvement. :tu

Congrats Hugh, Jeff, Dom and Scott. Lots of good news going around it seems.

One thing I've noticed for myself as I'm progressing down this path, is that I'm breaking my addiction to food. I"m still a foodie at heart, but I"m not constantly thinking about it like I used to. That's made it easier to go from meal to meal without having huge cravings and being able to deal with a bit of a hungry feeling. It's not a natural reaction now to get a snack.

Official weigh in tomorrow morning. I hope the success I've had so far this week carries over one more day.

214.2-down 2.6 this week. That's 15 lbs in the first 5 weeks thus far without any exercising this far, so I'll take it.

amazing that i didn't gain any weigh last week in nova scotia. Actually down a tiny bit. It was almost impossible to 100% stick to it, but i was like 98% - still, we'll see what it says tmrw, cuz today i'm home and will be buying a lot of meats.

You're pretty close there Dom. It's amazing to see my side profile in a mirror and not see that big a$$ I carried around for 25+ years. Same for the gut. It's those little things that are keeping me motivated and putting a smile on my face. :D

I noticed today how much better my scrubs are fitting me. Before the diet, my large pants were kinda tight and it was all I could do get my XL top on. Now there's a good bit more room.

I'm going to start wearing my 36's when I get down to 210. :)

Morning Boys!

Had my weigh in this morning.
257.6 a little higher than I wanted, was looking to be on the other side of 257.5, so only a few ounces off, not gonna sweat it.

Re: Losing Weight with Starscream

A few ounces is meaningless. Get a haircut, you'll drop those- breathe different, you'll lose those ounces. Unless you have a $1000 scale, ounces are meaningless. I round up or down. Even placing the scale in a slightly different location can change your weight. That is why realistically you should weight yourself once a week, same time, wearing same clothing(or none) in same location. Daily or hourly weighing proves nothing other than a "too much time on my hands" syndrome. My :2

For me, daily pre-workout weigh-ins are incentive. A good weigh-in motivates me to continue that trend. A bad one motivates me to work that much harder. Also, I can tailor my workout accordingly.

Have been worried about my knee but am back to a point where I feel good after bicycle. Have upped it to 2 sessions of 30 minutes a day and feel great. Concerned about a 2 week trip out west, hope I can find a stationary bike at hotel if not will definately be walking to keep an hour of cardio.

Re: Losing Weight with Starscream

Jogged the furthest I've ever done today, 2.5 miles. Just under 11 min/mile, about 5.5mph. Not the fastest of times, but I'm really just starting out for anything over a mile. Right now I'm more concerned with hitting the 3.1 mile mark (5k) to get in shape for my run in October. Need to look into a water bottle holder. Seems the 20min mark is my achilles heel and I start to get a bit dehydrated. Good thing I picked a route with ample tree coverage. The shade made the last bit bearable.

To top it off, I did a few hours of yard work. I think I need to plan out my meals better on days where I'm really pushing myself. Had the eery feeling of passing out when I'd stand up again. Dont' know if not eating enough it throwing off my BP. I saw stars a few times, but didn't have the world go dark like it did earlier this year. I'll be talking to the doc about it when I see him soon for my 3 month checkup.

That happens when I get too far from food. If I don't eat in the morning, which I never do, and get around noon or later and I'm working, I get that faint, stars, pass outty thing. I go in, eat a little bowl of cereal, and it goes away immediately.
Same thing happens to Lisa. We say "it's the sugar getting low". We have no clue that's what it really is, but a little bit of food clears it up in minutes. It usually happens to her at the gym, so she has a protein bar or something there. If she's home, she usually has a little cracker and cheese plate for her snack.

198 this morning. Touched 197 last week. Weekends are hard. Thinking this is the week that I finally get to 195... however briefly.

Doubled my cardio (Ride the Airdyne in the AM now as well) mid last week to try for the final push to 195.

Pigged out last night ... probably 2500+ calories for the day but they were good ones, fruit and veggies. Body said it needed it.. I need to stop listening to it. :)

- 62 lbs since April 5th. Trying to make it 65 by Friday. We will see.

194 and you will have me beat. Thinking 195 is the endpoint for me. Then just try and maintain.

I'm gonna get to 195. Not sure when though. It's all good. Getting healthy is the issue not the apparent fixation I have with the numbers. :)

This is the problem I'm having too. It's nice to keep jumping on the scale to see the number going down, but i have to remember at some point it's gonna stop and possibly go back up as I put on muscle mass.

Re: Losing Weight with Starscream

Jeff (Kreth) mentioned he was researching workout info and saw a lot of people talk about a simple chocolate milk drink for your post workout supplement. Just skim milk and chocolate mix. I happened to talk to two coworkers today about it, they both work out. They both said it definitely does help. You get a nice dose of protein and carbs to help replenish the muscles you just worked out. I made one up today and actually had it before my workout. I wanted to get the mix right. I used 8oz skim milk, 1 tsp Hersey's Special Dark cocoa and a pack of Splenda. Put in a container you can shake to mix and drink. Not sure if that was it, or my dinner before the workout, but I had a lot more energy today and increased the weight for my workout and was able to do more. Could've been physcological. Who knows but I"m going to continue to do it. I didn't have one after the workout as I didn't want the extra carbs. But now that I have the mix right, i'll be drinking them afterwards.

I also ordered some Protein Powder and Creatine too. Been reading a lot about them and the benefits. Figured I'd give it a shot. The brand of creatine I got isn't supposed to give you the normal "creatine bloat". If it helps with my recovery I'll take adding on a couple extra pounds.

There ya go, my man. I always shut that stuff off when I did the low carb. I think my ex-bil told me about it. I drank tons of half-caff coffee and caffiene-free diet pepsi, and still cut that out. I started right back up later, then quit diet pop altogether. I haven't had coffee in days, and really couldn't be considered a coffee drinker for the last couple years, I suppose.

I found the last one too...but I am going to have new holes made. I bought two belts(my now favorites) in barcelona and not a single belt I have EVER bought in the US comes close to the quality of those. It may be a little long but I will look at it and smile!

Re: Losing Weight with Starscream

Had my first post workout chocolate milk shake today. Monitored my blood glucose, before, after and 1 hour after. It actually went up after working out which leads me to believe I need to do a pre-workout supplement of some sort. This should help to fuel my body and not burn up all my glucose stores. An hour later, it was back down in normal levels. Tomorrow the protein and creatine arrives, so I'll get a chance to try that. Plus it's weights day.

Also got a package in the mail today of some running shorts. Those should help with my goal of training for the 5k in October. My regular cotton athletic shorts weren't cutting it anymore.
