Missed yesterday’s workout, so made up by going in today. Felt good. Since it was leg day, thought I’d ramp up the intensity. As Ronnie Coleman would say, “light weight”. Should be feeling it tomorrow.

Hit legs today as well, not exactly light, but not what I did 10 years ago either. :r

Yea, I don’t think I’ll get to the weights I was lifting before. I think the most I did on leg press was 800 for reps. If I had my trainer, I bet I could’ve done more. Today I only did 260, but sets of 18-18-18-17. Probably could’ve squeezed out one or two more reps, but then I’d still be stuck in the machine.

Chest and shoulders again, lower weight, higher volume. Got a good pump.

Keep 'er going, Bob. :ze

I'm resting my hip/groin/glute/thigh today. Only one hurts at a time, seems to rotate. Getting old ain't for sissies.

Chainsaw13 09-13-2024 10:47 AM

Re: Pumping Iron with Adriftpanda,Chainsaw13 and Icehog3 II

Good back and arm workout today. Again still focusing on volume. I figure I’ll do this for another week, then switch to heavier weights and less reps.

How’s the hip/thigh/groin/glute feeling Tom?

icehog3 09-15-2024 08:56 AM

Re: Pumping Iron with Adriftpanda,Chainsaw13 and Icehog3 II

Hip is going to be an issue going forward, Bob, at some point I'm going need a replacement. Hoping that time doesn't come too soon.

Glad you're back at it. I'm taking the inspiration and heading in on a Sunday. :D

I think you could totally rock the cane and long fur coat! :banger

Not much here, just trying to keep the jiggly a little jiggly. I need the shirt that says, I work out but I don’t turn down cookies either. Or something like that.

Re: Pumping Iron with Adriftpanda,Chainsaw13 and Icehog3 II

Ok, back to our regularly scheduled programming. Push day. Again, volume. Got a nice pump. Working on trying to grow my shoulders. Damn I need work on the outer head of the shoulder. Doing cable side lateral raises, and couldn’t use much weight. But I don’t care, gotta start somewhere.

Back and arm day. Feeling it in the traps. Didn’t feel like racking someone else’s plates, so ran with the 4 45’s on the machine. I’ll take a day off and hit up legs Friday.

Speaking of legs, the gym manager reminded me of something my trainer used to do. Squatober. 31 days of some type of squatting. My old knees can’t handle that.

There was a guy on here several years ago that was squatting every day. I was surprised at how long he kept it up, can't remember the user name. But finally, it all came tumbling down with overtraining and injury.

So with that in mind, I took today off. ;) :lr

I was thinking of going in again today, but waking up this morning my body is telling me otherwise. I ain’t no spring chicken.

Back to the gym. Chest and shoulders today. Things were going well until overhead shoulder press. Felt something pop. Decided to call it good. Time for ice and ibuprofen.

Re: Pumping Iron with Adriftpanda,Chainsaw13 and Icehog3 II

Bob, I hope the shoulder is just tweaked.

I hit heavy back today. All I need is a shoulder replacement, a hip replacement and a new neck, and I'll be mediocre. :D

Re: Pumping Iron with Adriftpanda,Chainsaw13 and Icehog3 II

Leg day! Lots of weight was moved, no hernias popped.

Did some stretching for my shoulder which seemed to help. Still a bit sore, but going away.

Back and arm day. Loving those mag grip bars. Fry’s my forearm/grip. I’d say I’m about 70% of the way back to the weight I could do before.

Re: Pumping Iron with Adriftpanda,Chainsaw13 and Icehog3 II

Keep rockin' it, Bob. :ze

I'm training upper body one day and legs the other the past week or so, I'll stick with it until I get burnt.

Chainsaw13 10-03-2024 10:47 AM

Re: Pumping Iron with Adriftpanda,Chainsaw13 and Icehog3 II

Decided to go in and work on chest, and a bit of shoulder. Needed to see how my right shoulder would feel. As I thought, not great. Decline and regular press was ok. Incline was were it really told me to back off. Dropped the weight and was able to get them done.

What was funny on the decline, I did an easy warmup set to check alignment. Took those plates off and threw on 45’s. Blast out another set and I’m like, “that was easy. I’m stronger than I thought”. Then I saw there was only one 45lb plate on the bar. :fp

After my weight loss years ago, I learned I was no where near as strong as I thought. My bulk did most of the heavy lifting. I’d love to be lifting more, but I’ll take what I can get at this point.

icehog3 10-04-2024 10:21 AM

Re: Pumping Iron with Adriftpanda,Chainsaw13 and Icehog3 II

I'll do that on an exercise, Bob. Put 185 on and be shocked how many reps I get....then look, and only one side has a 25lb plate. :r

Chainsaw13 10-07-2024 10:18 AM

Re: Pumping Iron with Adriftpanda,Chainsaw13 and Icehog3 II

Definitely ICM. At least 4 of us in there hitting the boobies. :D

Been doing some stretches during my warmup that are supposed to help my shoulders. Still too early to tell, but it’s definitely helped my posture, keeping my chest up and shoulders back.

icehog3 10-07-2024 11:09 AM

Re: Pumping Iron with Adriftpanda,Chainsaw13 and Icehog3 II

ICM in my gym too, Bob. So I did back. :D

Chainsaw13 10-21-2024 10:06 AM

Re: Pumping Iron with Adriftpanda,Chainsaw13 and Icehog3 II

Got back into the gym. Wanted to give my shoulders a break. Started off good, did my warmup, then dips. Felt ok. Then went to do incline dumbbell presses. Even dropping down in weight, my right shoulder wasn’t liking it. So switched to back. Got thru lat pulldowns and high iso rows ok. Then went to do shrugs. Felt a slight twinge in my left trap. Fudge it. Did cardio then left. Sucks getting old.

icehog3 10-21-2024 11:28 AM

Re: Pumping Iron with Adriftpanda,Chainsaw13 and Icehog3 II

Sorry, Bob. I have so many nagging injuries I never know which one will take center stage each day. :hn

That being said, I went in and killed legs this AM. :ze

Good leg day. Volume and weight on leg press. Six set pyramid. Quad extensions, hamstring curls, straight leg deadlifts, calf raises.

Another good day in the gym. Back and arms. Went a bit lighter on the weight so I wouldn’t aggravate my neck. Also sticking to my goal of cardio every morning.

Welcome back Tom!

Lots of cardio again. Went into the gym, and worked on rehabbing shoulders. Seems to help some already, but time will tell.

Thank you for the welcome, Bob. Fingers crossed for you Brother!

Took all that energy and all those empty carbs and knocked out back and legs today. I'mma feel it tomorrow. :r

Leg day! Always enjoy leg day, especially when I’m sporting my Petrucci Power Beard Oil. (He’s the guitarist for Dream Theater. Kinda bulked up years ago and sports an epic beard).

Rehashed my last leg workout. Was able to get a few extra reps in. Gonna feel it tomorrow.

Re: Pumping Iron with Adriftpanda,Chainsaw13 and Icehog3 II

Figured I’d revive this thread since I’m fully back in the gym. Been going in 4 days a week now, and happen to be there when a friend of mine is there. He’s a couple years younger than me, but working out since ‘87. Always jacked. Anyway I asked him to help me work on my chest, as it’s my weakest body part. So he showed me some moves to help build size/strength.

Used the cable machine to do multiple sets of flyes, some seated, some standing. Differing heights of the pulley, to hit different areas of the chest. Then something as simple as using a band, standing on it to add tension, hands out to the side, then bringing arms extended up in front. Could really see it hit the upper chest. I’d say in all we did 14-15 sets each to failure, even doing some drop sets to squeeze out a few more reps. Then some simple incline dumbbell presses. I’m feeling it right now.

Never too old to learn some new tricks, Bob. If I knew when I was 20 what I know now.....

Re: Pumping Iron with Adriftpanda,Chainsaw13 and Icehog3 II

Way to go Chainsaw!

I've actually gotten back in the gym as well. 3 weeks back on track 5 times a week lifting and riding a Pelaton style bike. Seeing changes already and feeling so much better. Started taking creatine with my preworkout and it's pretty incredible how much better I feel daily. I think cognitively the creatine has me more awake and much more focused actually.

Something else I've started doing is at the end of showers I throw it to cold for as long as I can stand. I've done cold plunges in the past and absolutely love how I feel after and even just a minute in the cold water at the end of showers refreshes and wakes me up for the day.

icehog3 06-13-2025 09:26 AM

Re: Pumping Iron with Adriftpanda,Chainsaw13 and Icehog3 II

Congrats on getting back at it, Pete. :tu

I used to do that cold water move on chest day, flexing my chest hard into the stream. My current shower at home just doesn't get that cold...I've been thinking about trying cryotherapy at my gym.

Chainsaw13 06-13-2025 10:27 AM

Re: Pumping Iron with Adriftpanda,Chainsaw13 and Icehog3 II

Nice Pete! I may need to give creatine and preworkout a try again. I haven’t been taking them yet.

Legs and shoulders today.
Smith machine squats
Barbell front squats
Straight leg deadlifts
Calf raises

Then did a short, shoulder workout with my friend. Again he showed this old dog some new tricks.
So in the Ez bar rack is a short barbell you can add weight to if you want to do curls. We used that, sans weight, to do side shoulder raises. Last set we added a couple 2.5lb plates.
Then using the EZ bar, back against a pole for stability, did front delt raises.
Then some seal rows to hit the rear delts. I was gassed at that point.

Re: Pumping Iron with Adriftpanda,Chainsaw13 and Icehog3 II

Today was chest again. After yesterday’s successful use of the pull-up machine, gave the dip machine a try. Felt good. This twice a week focus on the chest is paying off.

icehog3 06-26-2025 03:14 PM

Re: Pumping Iron with Adriftpanda,Chainsaw13 and Icehog3 II

Good stuff, Bob!

I'm still grinding it out at least 5 days a week, sometimes 6. How it hasn't all broken down yet, I have no clue. ;) :r

Chainsaw13 06-27-2025 10:01 AM

Re: Pumping Iron with Adriftpanda,Chainsaw13 and Icehog3 II

Tom, I’m going 4-5 days myself. Today was leg day. First time under the bar for squats in over two years. Not huge weight, but gotta start somewhere. It’ll come back quickly.

Was talking to a couple younger guys in there using the dip machine. One kid, who I asked was 125lbs, was doing weighted dips with 70lb on the belt. Wow.

icehog3 06-27-2025 02:50 PM

Re: Pumping Iron with Adriftpanda,Chainsaw13 and Icehog3 II

Yeah, Bob, I was young once. :( :lr

At one point I was strapping four 45 lbs plates around my waist for dips. Now, not so much. ;)

Oh man, I thought I had hydrated myself enough yesterday. Was taking a nap when my left hamstring decided to let me know I was still alive. That one hurt.

I hate those dehydration cramps in the high heat. Sometimes after back day my hands will keep locking up, it sucks.

Re: Pumping Iron with Adriftpanda,Chainsaw13 and Icehog3 II

Good chest day with my friend. We went to a different location he keeps telling me about. Wow, bigger, more newer equipment, clean. It’s only 10 minutes longer to get to as well. I’ll hit that one up more for sure.

icehog3 06-30-2025 08:34 AM

Re: Pumping Iron with Adriftpanda,Chainsaw13 and Icehog3 II

Always good to hit up a different gym. Different equipment, different angles, different vibe.

Leg day. :hn :r
