Not fun.

Overheard one of our trainers talking about the leg extension machine and he mentioned that it wasn't "good for you" and he wished that he could have gotten rid of that machine. Any of you guys no why it's bad for you?

It's hard on the knee ligaments/tendons, Greg. It is basically good for competing bodybuilders who need crazy separation/striation in their quad muscles, but not for your average lifter just trying to gain muscle or functional strength.

Have to get the gym early tomorrow, Hawks Finals tickets on sale at Noon.

Today's visit took 2 hours to see the Doc, busy office. Currently he stated I have Impingement and Bursitis going on. That's what he can see from the x-ray.
Told me to cut back on some of the upper body wieght training:sl, Not happy. Sending me to his special Physical Theropist and I need to get an MRI done.

Guess my legs workouts are going to increase, along with cardio.

Mahalo for all the support guys, really appreciate it:tu

I've also heard, squats are not good for your knees but I still do them. :D

Could have been worse, Jay. Glad you're okay. Just a couple weeks, won't kill you.

Sitting at work with a bag of ice on my left shoulder. It popped at the gym, really popped, and I am just being cautious. Funny thing is, I have probably 50-60% better range of motion now than I have had in weeks, so I may have actually helped it in the long run....loosened an impingement or broke some scar tissue or something. I think I will have a better idea tomorrow, but am hoping for the best.

I'll keep my fingers crossed for you Tom:D BTW, I'm sitting here as we speak with an ice bag on the inside area of my right arm. Good stuff:D Ice and taking the day off in between wo' appear to help...

Yup, hope it's not anything more than some ice and rest.

Went in a did some back and arms today. elbow felt it while doing some triceps so I called it a day, at least it was my last or 2nd to last exercise. Back felt great though. Gonna take a couple days off to rest this elbow, or just do legs on Monday...

Not sure how I am going to feel tomorrow, or if lifting is going to hurt (or even be possible right away), but I have been icing and stretching my shoulder all day, and am able to get my left arm straight up over my head for the first time in almost a year. Could I have broke/fixed my shoulder? :lr

Re: Pumping Iron with Zemekone and Icehog3

Back day yesterday, felt pretty good. Elbow was okay. Love the feeling of a sore back.

Today was a push day, had to reduce the weight and the reps due to the elbow. Kept everything under 8 reps. Skipped the tricep as well. Think I will take this whole week off as far as push exercises.

Legs and plyo tomorrow and Friday. Maybe it'll be better come Saturday.

Re: Pumping Iron with Zemekone and Icehog3

Scheduled day off today, and have a game late night. Not sure if I am going to take one more day off tomorrow to let the shoulder heal a little more...I am leaning towards that now.

Re: Pumping Iron with Zemekone and Icehog3

Think this thread needs a healthy dose of Ben Gay...;)

Last wo was on Sat 6/1 and all week prior to this the right inside forearm and lower bicep had been revealing achiness and stiffness with some dull pain. Took Monday through Wednesday and iced the area twice a day. Was going to take today off as well, but said "screw it" and hit the garage after a good 50min walk with the dawg:

Standing reverse curls x5/8reps
Standing bicep curls x5/8reps
Standing french press x5/8reps

Standing upright row x5/8reps

Standing press x5/8reps

Really needed to push through the pain this morning as the first few sets in the rev curls and bicep curls were tough, but did it. Now, where did I put that bag of ice:D

Re: Pumping Iron with Zemekone and Icehog3

Did back today, first time since my shoulder popped out doing it last week. Kept relatively light, and stopped a rep short of failure every set...it was just in my head, didn't want to feel that again. :hn

Barbell Rows to 265
T-Bar Rows to 245
Cable Rows to 240
Pullups (bodyweight).

Good to know I am not injured with a sprain or tear, but a little unnerving knowing the joint is not completely stable yet.

DB side raises ---- db front raises 4x6
DB shurgs 4x15 (tried placing the db to the front as well as the side)

Re: Pumping Iron with Zemekone and Icehog3

Did a double today, legs, shoulders, arms and abs so I could nurse the hangover I know I will have tomorrow. :r

Only fallout from popping my shoulder out last Saturday is that I can't train biceps very intensely, think I must have sprained the tendon that ties in the left shoulder and bicep.

Re: Pumping Iron with Zemekone and Icehog3

Chest day.

Took awhile to get my elbow warmed up but it felt okay after a few sets.

BB bench press 5x5
Incline hammer strength press 4x6
Flat DB flys 4x5
Incline cable presses 3x8

Finished off using the TRX suspension cables. Been using those the last few training days, and I have to admit, better workout than I thought.

Shoulders today.

Arnold presses 5x6
Seated lat raises 4x6

Crippled, Brian :r ...actually, it works pretty good on everything but biceps now. I think the tendon that ties in the shoulder and bi is sprained, or at least inflamed.

After 35+ years of heavy training, pretty much not understanding "cycling" my weights the first 25+, I am just lucky I can still do it, play hockey, walk, etc. :r

Re: Pumping Iron with Zemekone and Icehog3

So, I've been using Muscle Pharm' Re-con for a post workout drink which has been working out pretty good now. The mango/orange flavor taste good and the powder mixes in with water fairly decent after a 60+ second stir. In addition, I've been tossing-in 5gm of Muscle Pharms Creatine blend too.

Question is: what post workout drink have you guys been consuming post workout and has it been working for you?

Re: Pumping Iron with Zemekone and Icehog3

Mark, I have just been taking about 25-30 grams of ON Gold Standard Whey and 15 or so grams of ON BCAAs, along with a regimen of specific vitamins and minerals for recovery. I have done some of the mixes in the past, this just ends up being a little less costly for me. I do throw in some CreaCore creatine pre and post workout sometimes as well.

Adriftpanda 06-12-2013 11:30 AM

Re: Pumping Iron with Zemekone and Icehog3

Mark, I take Isoflex protein for a post workout. Take 1.5-2 scoops of protein (40-50 grams) and through out the day I sip on ON (optimal nutrition) BCAA. As far as vitamins and minerals go, I take glutamine chondroitin.

Had a good back day yesterday, kept it to 4 lifts but we did not keep track of our sets, so I think we ended up doing like 8 sets of t-bar row

T-Bar
wide grip pull ups ---- reverse grip lat pull downs
seated bent over flys

Finished off with a couple sets of biceps, but by then my arms were down.

Re: Pumping Iron with Zemekone and Icehog3

Today, I reached a very special personal goal. Two years ago, I weighed in at 155 pounds. Determined to become healthier and more in shape, I began to workout for the first time ever. 2 years, 4 waist sizes, 1 shirt size, and 52 pounds later, I finally reached my goal of weighing over 200 pounds and getting in the best shape of my life. I never thought I'd be able to bench over 225 pounds, now I'm doing 275 for 8. Thanks for all the support motivation this thread has given!

Good amount of heat hanging around in the garage this morning adding to a great workout:

Standing reverse curls x5/8reps
Standing bicep curls x5/8reps
Standing french press x5/8reps
Standing upright row x5/8reps

Standing press x5/8reps

Slight dull pain in the right bicep/forearm area at the beginning of the wo, but worked through that, and now that area is feeling quite good (for the time being):D

Re: Pumping Iron with Zemekone and Icehog3

quads and chest today.

squats 10x5

flat bb 5x5
incline bb 4x6
flys 4x6
decline hammer strength 4x6

Re: Pumping Iron with Zemekone and Icehog3

Legs, arms and abs today.

Leg Press and curls only for legs as I have a game tonight.

Close grip bench and cables for tris.

Preacher curls and dumbbell curls for bis.

I prefer doing barbell curls, but my shoulder/bicep tendon actually felt OK doing these exercises today, so I am probably going to stick with them a couple more workouts and see if I can heal up some more.

That dull pain/stiffness is still there in the rt inside forearm/bicep area, but just pushing that issue to the back of my mind and continuing to work through it:

Standing reverse curls x5/8reps
Standing bicep curls x5/8reps
Standing french press x5/8reps
Standing upright row x5/8reps
Standing press x5/8reps

On the plus side, added another 5 lbs to the standing press, which bumps me up to 80 lbs on that routine. Look out Rob. Coming after you bro:banger

Chest day today, did high reps with moderate weight.

Bench press to 275
Incline bench to 265
Dips +45
