Back is my favorite too, Huy...I can go heavy without a lot of pain on most exercises. Wish I could still say the same for chest and shoulders. I go heavy...and cry a lot. :r

Agreed on all accounts.

Same here. Weird that pulling doesn't bother my right shoulder nearly as much as pressing. I'm sure that there's a physiological explanation, but I'll be damned if I know what it is. :lr

Had to work a split shift today, so I went to the gym during the break. Did 30 minutes of cardio, seated DB curls and finished with 3 sets of 15 squats. It's been years the last time I worked my legs, pain tomorrow.

Did two mat Pilates classes this week. Man, are they difficult and exactly what every male should be doing in the gym. Kind of intimidating to be 1 guy in a class of 30 women... Pilates works the core muscles like no other style of exercise and the methods taught in the class really help in advancing technique with weights and stretching.

I'd say Pilates is the most beneficial thing men should be doing in the gym.

I wouldn't mind being alone in a class with 30 prospects...er, I mean, women, Moses. :)

You'd be real impressed with a pilates class the exercise philosophy of Joseph Pilates. You'll give a point or two bonus to a few of the ladies when you see what some can do with their core!

From wikipedia:

Pilates was originally a gymnast, diver, and bodybuilder, but when he moved to England in 1912, he earned a living as a professional boxer, circus-performer, and self-defense trainer at police schools and Scotland Yard. Nevertheless, the British authorities interned him during World War I along with other German citizens in an internment camp, first in Lancaster Castle where he taught wrestling and self-defence, boasting that his students would emerge stronger than they were before their internment. It was here that he began refining and teaching his minimal equipment system of mat exercises that later became "Contrology". He was then transferred to another internment camp on the Isle of Man. During this involuntary break, he began to intensively develop his concept of an integrated, comprehensive system of physical exercise, which he himself called "Contrology." He studied yoga and the movements of animals and trained his fellow inmates in fitness and exercises. It is told that these inmates survived the 1918 flu pandemic due to their good physical shape.

I've trained 9 days in a row since hockey schedule has been light so far in January. 1 more day, then I will take 2 of the next 4 off. Don't feel overtrained at all, ebergy and strength have both been solid.... shoulder actually feels better than it has for weeks.

Nine days in a row, U Da Man Tom. Glad to hear the shoulder is holding up. Chest and triceps tomorrow :)

Yup...Wednesday will be an off day because I have training at worjk during the day and prefer not to train at night.

Shoulder was a little wonky at hockey tonight, but still better than it's been lately.

Looks like I am going to a sports medicine doctor. Took a fall a few weeks ago and jacked up my left hand and I think my left shoulder too. It has been sore on and off but felt good this week. Worked out 2 days and it is killing me. I need to have my left foot checked to. I think my tendonitis is flaring up again. Seriously, he whole left side of my body is beat up.

Have you considered an anti-inflammatory diet with supplements like Wobenzym N? A sound like you are getting flare up’s all over the place and could be mitigated by changing what you eat and take.

Yep. On Ibuprofen. Have not checked out Wobenzym. Foot is the only flare up. Shoulder and hand are both a new injury that I was too stupid to rest right away.

Check out changing your diet a little to concentrate on anti-inflamatory foods. Taking Ibuprofen every day is not good for the morale.

I know Icehog has use Wobenzym besides me. Maybe he'll chime in?

Definitely helped with inflammation, unfortunately my shoulder problems have been diagnosed as structural and supplements can only help my issues fractionally.

Chest for me too :) My bench weight has gone up by 20 pounds in three weeks after changing to a new rep scheme. Love it when that happens :wo

I pretty much did double day today... Buddy of mine convinced me to do back. Did that. Staci got home from work and wanted to work out but didn't want to go alone so I said okay, did some more back and arms.

4 weeks into Pilates 2x a week and I can feel and see a difference in my Core! My instructor's abs are so thick, you'd think she had a padded shirt. Just amazing!

Tried 215 again on bench... it was like I was trying to lift a car... did not happen. I got back up to 205 once and that's about all I got. It's frustrating.

Did you lose momentum? Taking time off when trying to reach a max is not good. I thought you would've hit 225 by now.

Just finished legs and biceps a few hours ago. Came home to walk the dog and get the feeling I'm in for a little leg pain over the next few days. Back feels good, that is a huge plus :-)

Re: Pumping Iron with Zemekone and Icehog3

Good on both counts, Jay! :tu

Got a great back workout today, stayed with 225 on bent over rows. Went from over 20 reps on the first set to barely able to get 12 by the last, dropping the rest every set. Then 4 plates and a quarter on T-bars for the same kind of reps. Low cable rows were enxt, followed by wide grip pullups, which were in sets of 8 because I was shot.

Chest workout tomorrow morning before I head to the MoB Herf, going to have to pack some protein for the afternoon. :r

Adriftpanda 01-26-2013 12:23 PM

That's all? 4 plates and a quarter on t-bar, weak. :)

Taking today off. Did chest yesterday but my hamstrings are still sore from doing lunges and stiff leg deads on Thursday.

Re: Pumping Iron with Zemekone and Icehog3

That's rep day, Huy, I will do better on heavy day. :r

Chest today...all the benchs were occupied with school kids doing 30 seta each, so I mixed it up with weighted dips and a couple other crazy exercises. Legs tomorrow, yahoo. :r

Made into the gym today even though I wasn't feeling it. Started with 30 minutes of cardio and then shoulders.

Chest day, 4 exercise. Tricep, 2 exercise. Quick hour workout (with 2 other buddies). 225lb BB 4x5, and that was not a rep day :r

Was actually very surprise how much my incline db has improved over the last couple months. 90-100lb db 8,8,6,5. Also, not a rep day.

icehog3 01-28-2013 04:51 PM

Re: Pumping Iron with Zemekone and Icehog3

Good deal, Huy! :tu Think how much better you could do over even that with some supplement samples!

Shoulder and traps for me, did military presses with a narrower grip than I usually do to hit the delts in a different way.

You'll get back in no time, Dan! :tu

My partner wanted to go early today, so I said okay... not use to lifting early.
Started out doing some deads and I tweaked my back, not the business. Decided to do a rep day. Hoping this **** will heal fast, last time it took about 3 weeks. Back days are just not the same without going heavy.

Did some shoulders today, only there for about 45 minutes. My partner had to pick up his kid today from school, so we are doing double days. Hitting the gym later tonight.

Howdy all. Just dropping by to say hello and get some motivation from you guys.

Been a few years since I hit the gym and today was day 3. Feeling good every morning with a nice soreness. Day 1 did chest day 2 back and today arms. Man I missed the gym. Hopefully soon I can bump up from low weight/ high reps to heavy weight.

Also been changing the diet and trying to eat 5-6 times a day to help drop a lot of extra weight. Once my protein and glutamine come in I'll be back to my old
Routine.

Any guys got any tips to help get back in Shape? I do my 20-30 minutes of cardio plus about a hour of weight lifting.

icehog3 01-31-2013 01:06 AM

Re: Pumping Iron with Zemekone and Icehog3

Consistency is the key right now, Frank, sounds like you are on the right track....make it "habit", and the results will come.

Killer back workout today, did some heavy rowing (two types of T-bar, barbell, dumbbell and cable). Threw in some bodyweight pullups and stretches to finish. Doubling up chest and shoulders tomorrow as I have to take an extra day off on Saturday.

Sounds like you are in need of serious stretching! When you are building muscle as you are, the muscles get tight on healing. Do a light stretch after cardio - before weights, and then a longer stretch after the weights. The next day soreness will be less. Especially large muscle groups both upper and lower body.

Don't forget the exercise triangle - weights, cardio, stretching. You have to hit all three equally. :tu

Re: Pumping Iron with Zemekone and Icehog3

Tom pretty much said what I was going to say, Frank.

Getting to the gym is half the battle. Changes won't happen over night, patience is the key. If you are trying to lose some extra weight, try HIIT (high intensive interval training).

Leg day today, don't know how this will work with my back. So I may just do arms/abs if my back can't hold up to squats.

jdakine 01-31-2013 01:09 PM

Re: Pumping Iron with Zemekone and Icehog3

Last night after work, did my 30 minutes of cardio and chest and triceps.
