Been out of the gym for a week, not wanting to make this URI worse before the hockey finals. Now that hockey is over for 3 weeks, I will get back into the gym by Thursday regardless of whether this is all cleared up or not.

OK, tried the super super sets yesterday and they were killer.

here's my circuit
-30 Pushups
-12 reps flat bench
-30 Pull wide front pullups
-12 reps power flys

I did this 4 times through. I MAY have been able to struggle through a 5th.

You did 4 sets of 30 wide pull up's? That's a lot even for one set. I don't think I have ever seen someone do one set of 30 wide pull up's never mind 4 sets of them! You must be an animal!

I am up to 23-25 on my first set (fresh), but it drops pretty dramatically with each set after.

If I did 15, I would be quite happy. I hear/feel crinking in my left shoulder doing them unless I am really warmed up, so I haven't been doing them as much as I use to. Pull up's are generally an early on back exercise.

Strict, My Brother, and that's hauling about 240 lbs up on each rep. ;)

Oh hell no. It's more like 10+8+7+5. Jeezus. They are hard as hell. I am thinking of splitting them to 15 wide / 15 close grip.

Do you use straps? I figure straps are good for at least one or two more pull up's a set. My "famous trainer" buddy does not recommend going too wide; just slightly wider than straight up arms. Hard to get use to for me since I have an idea in my head what a pull up is for the last 25 years working out...

hammondc 03-30-2012 07:20 AM

Re: Pumping Iron with Zemekone and Icehog3

No straps, but full disclosure, I need a chair back for the the last 3-4. I am not using my legs to help, but just taking some weight off. I am not going too wide, Pretty much 4 inches or so left and right vs straight up.

Two days ago was the first time I had deadlifted in over 2 months and boy does my lower back feel sore. Went balls out and did 315 raw for 3 reps and felt like I could have done more but didn't want to risk throwing out my back. Not bad since my ORM was about 450 =D

Re: Pumping Iron with Zemekone and Icehog3

Finally put up 185 on the incline bench for 1. That's 40lbs more than me. I vividly remember thinking how cool it would be to have a 45 and a 25 on each side months ago and not being able to envision a time where I could lift that.
Hell, I never even tried it until today (previous high was 175).

I'm quite stoked.

Re: Pumping Iron with Zemekone and Icehog3

185 is a good milestone, 225 is right around the corner. I'd try it on a flat bench first.

Nice lift Dan!

I never liked Incline bench. I never get into the right groove. I've had some decent lifts but never feel comfortable on it. I've also hurt myself multiple times doing incline bench.

Different strokes, Son....I love incline, and am actually able to lift more on the incline. Strange, I know.

Getting my third preworkout in Monday, trying Universal Shock Therapy. I found that using Con-Crete with a preworkout gives me much more energy. Today was a good day.

Anyone have any experience with Hemoval? Apparently that is another good one to take with a preworkout.

Concentrated Creatine.

http://www.bodybuilding.com/store/pmh/concret.html

Some Preworkouts like Musclepharm Assault use creatine (specifically con-crete in assault) but some don't like Cellucor C4.

I put up 300 on the flat bench last week for a 1 rep max. I'm hoping to get 350 before I reach the end of my deployment.

Inclines aren't so bad when the bench angle adjusts. I don't like it very steep. Declines I am not too into at all.

I like decline. Takes off a lot of stress from my shoulders.

I can't (or won't) do declines as all, Son, I don't like the position. :r

I use weighted dips and plate loading decline machine (sitting upright) to build lower pecs.

Well I can say this: Universal Shock Therapy does not work at all.

Yesterday I took 1.5 scoops, today I just took 2.5 scoops 45 minutes ago. Not a thing. Scoops are 20G (All in one Pre-workout like Assault). Crashed yesterday on this stuff, crashing again today. It does the complete opposite as it's supposed to. Sh*t puts me to sleep.

Just a heads up.

Yeah there are some side effects you can get. They always tell you to start low to access tolerance. My heart rate is always perfectly normal so I take usually 2 scoops of any pre-workout.

You will usually sweat more though, so that is "normal".

If you haven't tried it yet I've gotten the best overall results from Muscle Pharm Assault. Tastes great no side effects, great with Con-crete. Nice boost of energy.

Craze is nuts but it gives me the worst cottonmouth and the flavor is just terrible. Supposed to be a new flavor in the next few months.

I'm sending back Shock Therapy tomorrow, I'll probably try out Scivation Novem or Infinite Labs Juggernaught next. I'll report back on the ones I do try out so it might help a few people in deciding which ones to try next.

Assault gives me that same tingling like Jack3d that I can't stand--my ears, eyelids, and fingertips just itch like mad. It goes away while I'm working out, but will sometimes come back. I can't take it, not sure what compound is doing that. So far, Body Rush has been the best side-effect free preworkout for me, especially for those 6am starts.

It's the beta alanine. It's completely harmless. Beta alanine is a very effective ingredient as well.

Wonder if Assault & Jack3d are at different concentrations than Body Rush, which doesn't give me that same tingling? My wife & stepson both use Assault, and they don't have that irritation, maybe it's just my old body :D

What Tom said it's Beta-Alanine. The tingling feeling is perfectly normal, however the itching from what I've heard is a side effect that some people get.

I do feel the tingling in my arms but not my face or fingertips. No itching either.

Looks like I'm ordering Starchem Labs Momentum tonight and I'll get SciVation Novem next week once I send back Shock Therapy. I'll post reviews of both.

My advice is honestly if you're good with your current workout and energy level don't bother. I've done the espresso and while it works well, this is just a little bit different.

I usually don't have much motivation or energy so it's a good swift kick in the ass that lasts 2-3 hours that I need. I do find it puts me in a good mood too.

More about focus and endurance than motivation for me...but I agree with Bill, if you are happy with the results you are getting now, Dan, don't change it up. Maybe try it if you hit a plateau.
