Dren has been ok I noticed the energy boost over all it is like drinking coffee.

For the first time today, I used a foam roller post workout along with my moderate stretching. I'll let you guys know over the next few days if it has any impact on my DoMs.

Digging the workout Tom.

Nice workout. I took the rest of the week off for traveling etc. I get DOMS the worst. I have used a foam roller, but if I go that route I will use a tennisball, or softball to really get deep in there.

I miss the DOMS. :( It's been 1.5 weeks since my last gym session due to travel. Grrrr.

Gym is closed today for the holiday; but it'll open back up tomorrow. I need to hit some squats or deads.

I'm with you d...

I haven't been to the gym in 4 days, I been stuck on vacation with no access to a gym...

Headed back to California tonight, and back to the gym...

Thats about how I feel on most products like that. I just buy the 20 pack of redbull at the store instead.

Never heard about using those before. Fri was the first day I ever used the foam roller. Wasnt too bad, I found my balance was worse than I had thought. LOL. Legs are a lil sore, but I didnt foam out my glutes and they FREAKING hurt, so maybe it is helping a lil.

Sorry to hear ya guys are missing the gym. The good part in all that is, you miss it. If ya take time off and dont feel like coming back. Thats the worst. Enjoy the rest time. Eat some junk, then come back full throttle.

I hear you there, energy drinks are great if I need a kick-start, but they're really only good for about 30-45 minutes unless you go with the 32 oz mini-kegs, in which case it's probably healthier to just do a line or two lol...

Back to the gym for me tomorrow as well. New Diet/Workout starting and had some shoulder pain the last few weeks that hasn't gone away so took this past week off. Ready to rock and roll tomorrow at about 3:30 pm

I drink the sugar free ones and feel fine. Usually drink one in the morning, and never notice any crash.

Leg workout today....not particularly strong, but got an awesome pump and still feel it now. Too much "crap food" over the past two days, me thinks.

Got back from the gym a little less than an hour ago. Eating now. Today seriously sucked. Please remind me never to take 2 weeks off. I should have at least done some cardio. My stamina sucked. My muscles felt weak. Oh ... and I had my first asthma attack (mild, thankfully) in several months and didn't have my inhaler. Oy.

Glad to be back on the wagon, though. :tu :ze

I did legs today, too -- really wanted to get a good stretch in my hams and glutes since they've felt sore from all the traveling. Tried Zercher squats for the first time. Those take more arm strength than I realized. LoL! Did some stiff-legged deads, snatch-grip deads, and regular deads to follow up. My ass is gonna be killing me tomorrow. :r

Well, that is a helluva way to get back in the saddle, Dokk. :tu

I just went with squats and seated hamstring curls....have a game Tuesday and don't want to be too depleted then. The squats were enough to do me in. :r

I can't do squats b/c of my shoulder. :( I should also note that I didn't/couldn't go too heavy with anything. My last set of deads (only at 185), I did faster than I've ever done deads before. I probably could have hit 225 that fast; but my lower back (like, sacrum area) was sore, so I stopped. :) I'll do some cardio, stretching, and shoulder rehab tomorrow.

I'm a wreck, Frank. :r

Don't know for sure what's wrong with the right shoulder. Still haven't found a good sports doc around here; but I haven't tried as hard as I should. The clearest symptoms are (a) a popping half-way down (not up) a flat bench motion and (b) a pain in the front part of the rotator cuff. Even holding the bar for a squat ends up putting a good deal of strain on the cuff; so I'm taking some time off from anything upper body that could strain it.

The bigger issues today were (a) total crap nutrition for the last 2 weeks and (b) posterior chain soreness from all the travel and conference-going. I spent almost 10 hours in the driver seat of my wife's car over the Thanksgiving vacation ... and it hurts my lower back from almost the second I sit in it.

Anyway, I'm sure the crap day is a result of poor nutrition and the existent soreness. It'll get better by the end of the week. :tu

I took Animal Cuts a few times before they banned ephedra. That was some good ****! Gave me the jitters but I would be amped all day. Dunno what else is out there. I would say just get a bottle of caffeine =/
A lot of people lately have been staying away from stimulants. A lot of new research is saying that taking them outside of the optimal window(pre exercise) increases cortisol in the body in large amounts.

I've got the worst DOMS today. :r

Barely got cardio in this morning after all the snow/ice and the old lady almost passing out on her way down the stairs. Gotta push through the DOMS tomorrow, though, and do a bit more leg work. Might throw in some "curls for da gurls." ;) Definitely have to hit my rehab exercises again.

2 1/2 circuits of shoulder rehab exercises, today. Damn thing is still popping even after all the rest. I think it's time for me to start looking harder for a doctor.

Followed it up with some speed deads, just for fun and to get a bit blood flowing in my legs ... and just a little to show up the big guy using less weight and straps to hold onto the bar. ;) Yeah -- sometimes I'm a 15 year old, one-upper.

I learned it from Gerry, though. :ze  :r

Nice deads, bro. I finally hit 405 a month or so back and have been training lighter since, focusing on the fundamentals. When I got back this morning, I'd popped some blood vessels or something in my right hand and it just looked like red bruise across 3 of my calluses. My wife said it was gross. I thought it was awesome.

PS, no chalk allowed  but I sneak it in for 365+ :)

No chalk? Thats terrible. I tried to use that liquid chalk before, it doesnt work worth a ****. Personally I think the old school chalk adds a little bit of a mental edge to pulling also. nothing says big pull like chalk clouds.

I have always worked to failure, although for many years now I stop there and don't go into "forced reps"....too much damage to the ligiments and tendons after 30 years of lifting. Forget what the fitness magazines say and experiment, find out what works best for you...there is no "formula" that works for everyone, everyone's body reacts differently.

I have never been able to lift on a full (to any degree) stomach, so I just hit the whey and glutamine right after the workout. The before and after whey is definitely a good thing for those who can lift with something in their stomach, though. :tu

I train to failure every workout. Much like tom said, going past failure is where you get into dangerous territory.
Add simple carbs to the post workout shake and your good to go.

This month's Men's Health says it's not good. I teaches proper form and you are more likely to be injury prone. It does say going to failure is good from time to time. But that's just what I read, I'm no expert.

Re: Pumping Iron with Zemekone and Icehog3

Men's Health = Garbage
Unless you like looking at male models, only take this magazine and all other magazines for that matter at face value. How many articles does one need about building 6 pack abs and how to train arms? Of course a magazine is going to say some bullshit like that. They cater to the people that read them who want an easy way to workout. Bottom line, if you are not pushing yourself at the gym, you are not going to make any gains. That includes cardio, diet, and weightlifting. Unless you have a vast amount of disposable income and can load your body with test shots and hgh we are all gonna have to bust a little ass.

Now I understand that we as men require pictures and articles that only scratch the surface on debates. But take it just as that. A lot of the guys that post in this thread have a lot of years of weight training, nutrition, sports specific training and powerlifting knowledge at a key stroke away. Dont be afraid to ask.
