WTF? Who isn't here? This could be tricky... missing six = burninator, designwise1, GrtndpwrflOZ, SUOrangeGuy, Syekick, TOB9595

Any ethical problems moving a pass from one forum to another? Can I get a ruling here please from some kind of pass genius?

HOLI S**T!

Things do happen in life to cause delays...In some ways I wish you had a major disaster to keep you from the commitment ...
BUT...
In so many MORE ways I hope it was just laziness...
I'll not know.

Tho I am thinking of coffee moor and Moor
I'm doing flavored hazelnut with hazelnut cream and sugar...
I don't know what a real cup of coffee tastes like...

But I will experience different types, flavors and ways.

I guess skinning alive would be too good for you, Tom. The only possible way to redeem yourself now is to stick something really cool in the pass for the guy who started it which would be, uh..., um.. d'oh, me when (if) it ever gets to you. Slow seems to be the order of the day. Also, the words "slovenly" and "slacker" showed up early. I know that, after a post like this (http://www.cigarasylum.com/vb/showpost.php?p=9746&postcount=2), it's hard to be patient.

So, speaking of slackers... Vic! Made any AeroPresses yet? I am thinking any of your standard espresso roasts would run well. I never used a regular espresso blend in the press while I had it.

BTW, when I got the box I just grabbed it, moved stuff around in my end table humidor and put the box in there for safe keeping, never even opened it until today.

...What are we supposed to be doing, yes, I forgot the rules.....1. Use the press for a few day - a week or so if you wish - and repackage it and forward to the next person on the list.

2. Everything else is puts and takes as a normal pass.

3. aldukes is next in line. If you didn't get an address list in the box I will recreate it and forward it to you. Advise.

On it's way to our next contestant, DC 0308 0660 0000 6098 0095

Housekeeping stuff first.

My takes were nothing.

I added a handful of NC's to the baggies, and a couple of CC's for our pass leader.

I didn't like the fact that the Cubans were in a cigar box unhumidified, I removed them all (including the two unbanded ones), placed them in 5 finger baggies, put them back in the ziplock and added a water pillow for humdification.

The NC's, I just added my cigars, left them in the zip lock with their humi stick.

The Aeropress:

Well, I tried it with several types of beans, some espresso blends(Malabar Gold, Moka Kadir (sweet marias) and one of my own blends.

Thoughts?: In a pinch, not bad. Lets face it, I 'm spoiled with my gear so I can't say "Wow, it rocks me!"

Espresso it ain't. Good coffee, you betcha.

I also tried it with a plain old SO Yellow Bourbon bean done up to a City Plus roast. Very good cup of Joe it made. Better than my French Press? Different, each good in their own way.

Would I buy one? Probably not. Most of my coffee drinking these days is made with my Anita, that which isn't is done in the French Press. I think the press is a little more straightforward and quicker to use, so the Aeropress aint' gonna replace that.

In my new job I don't travel anymore, so taking it on the road is not even a consideration. If I were still traveling it might be an option, so if jobs change again I'll rethunk it.

So far so good. i've been pressing Black Cat Espresso 2-3 times a day via areopress. I make all my coffee at the office- this thing is a breeze to clean. Im even able to get a slim touch of fake crema.

As long as no one opposes- I would like to keep this for the weekend and ship it out Monday.

On a side note- at least 10 people have asked me if I had "Swedish Made Penis Enlarger" on my desk.

I swear its not mine.

I find it a plus, also the depth of flavor, even when mixed with say 50-100% more water a great cup of coffee.

Ive been pressing double shots of "espresso". Its super smooth- I agree with Hardcz in saying it helps the aroma and flavor because its so smooth. I still prefer real espresso, but this is almost as good.

final product- about 30 seconds later.

Conclusions:

I ran Black Cat Espresso (http://www.intelligentsiacoffee.com/store/coffee/espresso/blackcat) and El Diablo dark roas (http://www.intelligentsiacoffee.com/store/coffee/darkroasts/diablo)t through this for 2 weeks. The Espresso blend was awesome- really brought out the flavors and aromas, excellent "espresso". I would buy this over a Mokapot for Espresso only.

With that being said, I'm sticking with the french press for day to day operations, but asking Santa for an Aeropress.

I don't have any takes or puts for the pass. This is going back out this afternoon DC: 0308 0070 0001 9474 6973.

Thanks to MOO for running the show.

I haven't used it alot but I really like it so far. Definately don't regret the purchase one bit. Easy to learn, brews good coffee, cleans easy, and it didn't break the bank. I'd really like to find an adapter of some kind to brew directly into my Stanley thermos when I'm out of town. Other than that me and the Aeropress are at one.

First pass at this wasn't terribly successful. Most of the water had drained out before I pressed, and I'm pretty sure I used way too much water to grinds. I ended up with a slightly flavored milk drink that wasn't too bad, but I wouldn't order one in a restaurant.

Will try again today.

I have it set on the finest grind possible, but I'm still having the same problem. Maybe if I poured the water a little more slowly, it would allow the filter to form a better seal.

Also, is the plunger supposed to touch the coffee on the way down? Seems to me the air ahead of the plunger is what is actually forcing the water through the grinds and filter.

Didn't get a chance to use it this morning, but yesterday's results were somewhat better. If it's alright with the group, I'd like to hold on to this through the weekend. :)

Changed the proportions this morning for a single cup, instead of my usual travel mug. Made a damn smooth (if not weaker) cup. The learning curve isn't terribly steep on this thing, which I like. Changing portion sizes is a bit of a guessing game, but I think two tries will probably be all it takes.

Novasurf, I got a new answer machine yesterday. I'll give you a shout. :)
Hey guys, This past month was a real bust for me. I was dogged by respiratory infection/s that drove me to my knees. I'd feel cocky when I started to feel better and go out or stress myself so I relapsed...DUH!!!!
I really am the poster child for NOT 40 ANYMORE.
I didn't have the strength for most of my illness to even make coffee...

I am VERY apologetic to anyone I backed up with not getting this out. Truth is I am just now starting to use it.

I am wondering if it's worth the effort to press and then add water. Not too much different, I think, from getting used to the grind and amount of water/bean to use for my proper cup. Taste and amount.
I propose to youse that I ship this off to the next guy in one week.
Is that ok?

PM is a fine knuckle ruler....to let me know that I am off base in continuing to use this.
Public admonistration is ok too.

PM me please, as I will continue to use this filter for another week, otherwise.

Thanks for understanding. I did think I might die, during this last bout of respiratory illness, once or twice.....My Son in the Air Force would have gotten the pass back on track in that event...
No fears there.

thank youse

Hey Tom, no worries, I'm sure I speak for all of us saying take care of yourself and get better. That press is made from space age polymers so it'll be around long after we're gone. Enjoy the press while you have it.

When I make the coffee with the press I add about a 1 to 1 ratio of hot water to the press output to make a damn fine cup. I use less for a stronger cup. Though I've found even a 2 to 1 ratio is still better than most swill you'll find out and about.

On the way to you, Bob.

tHE aoeropress....What is it about this piece of kit that helps make coffee?
Reminds me of the syringe and filter setup when I needed to take a lot of lab samples.
It takes a small amount of cupboard or drawer space
It does result in repeatable results for cups of joe.
A snap to clean
filters are reusable for several times.

When I make coffee... I make ~ 30 ounces. I find the French press to be my ideal tool for this purpose. If I did not, already, have the technique and measurement memory for the french press I may find this tool useful.
As it stands now I like the press and the ease of use and cleaning.

Benefits of the AEROPRESS
Durable and unbreakable.
can make repeatable cups of joe
takes a small footprint. Much smaller than my press.
Easily cleaned MUCH easier than the press.

Thanks for the chance to try this out. I am a tool geek and love the chance to USE something new.

Mmmm mmmm good. It makes a very interesting and potent coffee. It has a more drip coffee mouth feel than a moka pot brew but has a flavor and caffeine kick more akin to the moka. It is less bitter than I tend to find the moka brew as well. All in all a very nice diversion. At 24$ for one seems like a great little travel press. It's going to be better coffee than I am going to get at most places. Lighter than hauling my thermal french press. Thanks for putting this together moo. Nice experience.

Oddly enough I bought four tins of sweetened condensed milk the other day with a mind to warmer days and colder java, along with some mint leave to make a few mojitos (until my own backyard mint crop fleshes out). I must repost the Viet pictorial.

Tweaked my process with the aeropress. Got the grind a bit finer and added a little more coffee to water proportionally than previously. Using a nice Sumatran I just picked up yesterday. Very very smooth and balanced but potent cup o' joe. Makes me think of a Litto Gomez diez very smooth & balanced but packs a wallop. I intend to finish my experimenting and get the package out Monday. I have pm'd SUOrangeGuy and asked for his addy to move this on and haven't heard back yet so that may play into

Speaking of Mohito weather it might hit fifty here on Sunday booyah.

First of all, I shipped this back to Moo today with a little something extra. Thanks for chance to use this space age marvel and see what the hoopla was about. I have neither puts (except for the little something extra for Dan), nor takes. Kept the cigars in my humi while they were here.

My thoughts on the aeropress:

Interesting gadget but not too impressed with my results although I must confess I have very limited experience with espresso. I was unable to obtain crema, false crema, kinda sorta crema, or anything close to crema. Perhaps my grinder is not up to the task. I tried Kona, Columbian, and Kenya AA. It is however very easy to use and clean and an interesting concept. I think I will stick with my French press and vaccuum brew. Thanks again for the opportunity to try this out.

There is always one. :D

I don't care for Kona, Columbian, and Kenya AA in the areopress or in a moka pot, I do like Yemen, brazil, el Salvador, and some Guatemala in it very much.

As far as false crema goes I assume you use fresh roast, no CO2 left equals no crema of any kind or bloom.

Only fresh roast is ever used at our house. Perhaps it was the coffee origins, I just used what we like and had on hand green.

Thanks again. It arrived alive, thanks. I appreciate your kind puts and I'm glad that many of you had a chance to try this novel coffeemaking method.

As for me, I smoked two Fuente Short Stories the other day, glupped down a pitcher of Kona and am trying to figure out which movie to watch first. Thanks for participating and thanks for the smokes, etc. :tu :ss
