Well I just made a visit to the coral jungle and looked through the forums I usually visit. I noticed more than a few threads that had been closed by the head puffer. I read through the posts and didn't see anything slamming the forum or anyone else. He just closed it because of "drama."
It was my intentions to continue visiting the other site because I have some friends who seem to post more over there than over here. As soon as I can let them all know not to look for macjoe53 I will stop participating over there.
I'm not going to ask to be banned. I don't care that he will use the posts I have made over there. It wouldn't matter anyway because he won't eliminate names from the membership list anyway.

vbulletin has a feature to notify you when another user has logged in with the same IP address. I think it's a pretty common function used to track multiple accounts.

Its actually sickening. He won't allow some of the very members that helped create the community, that he has since destroyed, continue to participate in the forum. He is also spending the time to decide what posts make the cut. He should have just designed a site to sell random ad space and posted all the posts in the forums he wanted people to read and close them immediately so you could do nothing but read them and not get a chance to respond to his lies and deceit. :bh

Someone please correct me if I'm wrong but even if you are banned, and/or have your password scrambled you are still a member. But I have to say in all the time I've spent on forums, I have never seen someone so thoroughly piss off his faithful membership and run things into the ground. Without getting too technical, it depends on how your firewall is set up at work. Usually when you look for multiple accounts, you're looking for multiple accounts from a home DSL or cable IP hostname, though.

Naa just a crying shame is all.
Being a little... more vintage than most here, thought a little observation that parallels my life might be in order.
Helped build a business for another back in the late 80's thru the 90's. Went from 2mm to 50mm. 30 employees to 400. Started in sales and had a hand in bringing in the growth in good people and business. Ended up as president. There were significant character issues with our owner that culminated in my getting fired on a Monday after returning the previous day from a ski trip with some of the team. Worst day of my life. Over the next month most of the team quit. Sat out their non- competes and starved for 18 months.
Today we own and run a business together that is bigger and better than the one we left. Everyone is better off and happier than we ever were or could have been. Trial by fire forges strong bonds.
Weird the parallels in our lives at times. From the worst of things can spring the best of things.

Naa just a crying shame is all.
Being a little... more vintage than most here, thought a little observation that parallels my life might be in order.
Built a business for another back in the late 80's thru the 90's.
What happened to the old boss, Dave? Did he go under?

Allow everyone the oppertunity to just b!tch untill they were all b!tched out and tired.
Hell, the CS Clubhouse was perfect as only other Gorillas could read it anyway.
Why he would nix the clubhouse is beyond me and why he thinks it's a good idea to just try and hush people up is inexplicable for me.
Drama brings the trafic and that's what his advertisers want to see. If he had a brain he would have milked the drama for at least a few weeks. His Alexa rating would go up and his advertisers (who would never have seen most of the drama anyway) would be thrilled that they were getting their money's worth.

I so very reluctantly agree with you. ;)
Looking like its time that many will be bailing from that sinking ship.
Perhaps a good time to bring about a spirit of positivity here...instead of reminders of the down side of the overall community.
Possibly even a constitution of sorts of what CA and the mods will never become...to give everyone some reassurance about privacy and the sacredness of the "BOTL-ness" that gave rise to both CS and CA
I just cannot express my sadness with this situation...I've been only partially active for 2 years, but have frequently PMed Jon with unpaid advice that he sought after on how to run the show. He followed none of it, and treated all like ****. I'm patiently waiting to be banned based on a PM I sent him. This is the internet, forums come and go, they don't really matter. What matters is the people that bring those boards to life.

Those are necessary things. I agree with you there. Yes we have them and they are the most important. I'm talking about treasured things, like old memorabilia, and photos. When your house burns down, you're foremost concern is your family and finding a new home. We have a new home and most of the family is here, however we will never get back all of the sentimental things that remind us of the old days. All the pictures of the wedding, the kids growing up, the family reunions, and the old antique family heirlooms are gone. We have what is important, but a tear is still shed for the sentimental things.

Well, I'm with you on that one. I too shed a tear over the memories but everyone I made those memories with are over here and there's nothing stopping me from making new memories.
Finally, and this part is debatable, the price of admission to watch an asshat sink lots of cash into a complete failure of a board was Louie. I can photoshop a new picture of a Gorilla squeazing the life out of a fish if you'd like. That second part is partly humor but also carries some truth to it.

Answering questions question
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I will preface this post with the "No Drama Intended", but it may be ignored as previously demonstrated. I think that some of the long standing members would like to see some issues resolved and the questions have been posed with no response.
It seems as if some of the well respected members of this forum who have been around a long time have asked some pretty simple questions about how we can conduct discussions on this site about other well respected members.
The original question was moved to "Drama" and an explanation of keeping it to PM's was given.
A question asking for the answer to the first question being made public was also moved to "Drama" and still no answer to the original question.
If we are only going to be allowed to talk about certain topics, shouldn't we atleast be informed about why we aren't allowed to talk about the topics deemed too "dramatic" for this forum as to not upset the administration?
There was a time when public forums meant that public questions were answered by the administration for the betterment of the public members and of all those involved. Is it safe to assume that the new solution is to answer only public questions deemed appropriate by one, and not by general public?

apparently all opinions and questions criticizing Jon and the way he runs the site are "drama" and he doesn't have to answer to anyone. I mean technically he doesn't, but not the way I would run a business.
1. Courteous Criticisms
When critiquing a cigar, please do it in an adult, considerate and decent manner. Do not insult the manufacturer or simply state "it sucks" etc. Give a reason as to what you feel does not fit your profile or taste. Burn issues? Construction? Condition of the cigar? As part of the PUFF.com community your post are looked at by manufacturers and it can often give them a heads up about bad batches that made it past quality control. Try to be specific. Where did you purchase the cigar? What year? Things like this can really help other members too. Also, feel free to offer some positives about the cigar itself that you did like, this will inform the manufacturer about the things the consumers enjoy about the cigar. We can all learn a lot from each other here.
Haha, I can just picture the Fuentes sitting at their computer wearing out the refresh button waiting on our reviews.
I only wish I too could taste 7 year old burnt madagascar vanilla.

Possibly that was my reason for trouble. I had PMed a mod, who I trust greatly, to let him know that I was quite upset of some of the goings-on there (especially with Tom), and that he could look me up here, via my phone, or via my email.
Either way, complete BS. I have absolutely NO animosity towards Jon for commercializing the site. In my opinion, it was too big for one guy and a group of volunteers to run as a hobby...it needed someone who could take the reigns either as a hobby for the independently wealthy or as a profit-generating venture. I have no problem with either path. But Mr Caputo has truly alienated the community; a community which I think is much more tightly knit that he realizes and is likely constricting due to the economy.

Iron Maiden - No More Lies.
There's a darkening sky before me.
There's no time to prepare.
Salvage a lost horizon
But no regrets from me.
Maybe i'll be back some other day. (some other day)
To live again, just who can say.
In what shape or form that i might be.
Just another chance for me.
A hurried time, no disgrace,
instead of racing to conclusion,
wishing all my life away,
no-one can stop me now.
Time is up, it couldn't last,
but there's more things i'd like to do,
i'm coming back,
to try again,
some day maybe i'll wait till then...
They're all sitting at my table.
Talking tall and drinking wine.
Their time is up just like me
but They just don't know it yet.
So just a word of warning
When you're in your deepest dreams.
There's nothing you can hide from.
I've got my eye on you.
The clock is fast. The hour is near.
Eventful past is everclear.
My life is set. The time is here.
I think i'm coming home...

I don't think that's anything relevant to here... the team of 11 are the only mods and I'm pretty confident that they know what they are doing. Hell... more posts at poof have been closed/deleted in the last month than in the prior year and a half the 11 were running the show over there.

Dave and Tom banned.
Not banned, but had their password scrambled (also their emails changed so they can't reset the passwords, then lied to about it)... easily one of the most cowardly things I have seen done on cigar boards. Seriously, if you're going to ban someone, why not just be a man and ban them?
This speaks volumes of the new regime over there.
Again, things like this never happened under the 11 (and I'd feel safe saying they never would).

Smart? Nah... well maybe the other 10. The pertinent difference is that we are products of the culture, got mentored by those that came before us, served as volunteers to something we loved, and have those burdens to balance against the desires we all get as humans to lash out when things get dicey. Probably the most important distinction is.. we came for the cigars, stayed for the friendships.
What we are seeing there is pretty straightforward. The reason for rules is to strike a balance between individual freedom of speech and the greater good of the community. When it's a community with reasonable rules designed to serve the community, that everyone can understand, if not agree with, the implementation and enforcement of the rules is mostly done by the members of the community. When it's a one man for profit show and the rules become fluid, there is no firm footing or moral ground to stand on and you end up with a business vs a community. Puffer fish? How about Customers?
As is on display in this situation, no one owns this community. The URL that houses it is of minor importance and as you all have demonstrated, is easily replaced for a pittance financially if those who serve it administratively get to full of them(our)selves.

True, but there's nothing left there even vaguely resembling what CS was. It's now nothing more than a dictatorship run by a man (or men) with an iron fist and no tolerance for differing opinions.

Seriously, though, I knew the last nail was hammered into the coffin when I read the new mission statement over there. Though revised since, the very fact that it made it up on the web at all spoke volumes about the direction JC was taking things. I shed a single tear and stopped because I knew I had a new home here in the Asylum.
What really makes me sad, though, is that there are some "old timers" who were around on CS for a VERY long time and it's all gone. That's just sh!tty.

And, honestly, that's all that matters. I know we're all sad to see CS go. But without it, we wouldn't have the Asylum and we wouldn't have the countless friends we've made over the years. I haven't logged in there since shortly after I resigned as a moderator. That's how I'd prefer to remember it. Going over there now isn't going to add anything to my life except stress, which I don't need any more of. So I say we wish it well, put it behind us, and send the agglomeration on its puffy way.

Oh Snap.
Just keep in mind how much buying up CS and whatever other sites he bought cost him. Add that to the new domain, co-location and traffic fees. Factor in the graphic design company, or whomever he hired to design the look of the site and possibly someone with some site design and VB knowledge to set the place up.
Now subtract the money that unhappy advertisers will cost him when they pull their adverts from his site.
Factor in the state of the economy along with the slump in cigar sales that the economic climate has caused.
We need to also consider that puff is now less active then the brand new CA website is.
Do all the math and you're looking at "the Perfect Storm" that will result in the destruction of puff.
This "perfect storm" could be survived if the owner/admin knows how to run an online community but we all know, based on his actions thus far, that Jon is doing everything wrong.
So basically the Asshat is going to be hurting financially. One thing that we also must remember is that since puff is also a new website composed of several other websites stitched together under one banner, his Alexa rating is not nearly as good as CS or the other boards so that's not a selling point he can make to advertisers.
This is what is known as a footbullet.
Puff having an "ocean" theme is very appropriate as his ship is taking on water and will be at the bottom of the sea sooner or later. Most likely sooner.
Jon, if you're reading this, you Fugu'ed up bad and this little stunt is going to cost you a fortune. So if I were you I wouldn't count on rubbing shoulders with Rocky Patel or any other famous cigar producer.

Seems he has deleted more threads and when called out about it, denied ever being able to find it :bh

But he used every trick he knew!
(...aside from the trick where he tells the truth, that is)

He isn't deleting anything. That would reduce his site post count/ad potential. They are there just not in a viewable location. :r

It was definitely not lost as I posted in the thread yesterday :)
And I read it yesterday. :(
Hey dustin ... between you and me, we might be able to get him negative RG. Or Kelly could do it alone.
(I kid, of course)

I would ding him, but that would be like throwing poop at the fly.
I just looked up Kelly's RG. It's down to 77k? wth... At any riate.. you could get him negative I'm sure but like Kelly mentioned he can write in any number he wants.
This is my theory of the missing threads. They're all in the Drama Forum behind closed doors. Now whether they are re-populated into public view depends on if someone takes the time to sort what they want to keep and what they don't.
Of course this is speculation, but it sounds about right to me.

unfortunately.. I tihnk Kelly's ding would only hit him for 400 now... Ding is half the power of a boost. I think Kelly could give an 800 point boost right now.

I think I am good for around a couple hundred?
Would go back there for that.
