And maybe your market and provider?
Your modem if you know what it is.
Here's a link to a speedtest (http://www.speedtest.net/).
When it's done, you can choose a forum link to share your result.

If I connect directly to the router I am closer to the 75 MPS advertised. But that is two floors up in my father's study. I am connected via Ethernet through the house wiring. Wifi is about the same speed, however.....
I aint gonna do a test right now cause I'm at work. I have a 10 Mbps DSL package. I usually get the speeds I pay for. I have 10 down and 1 up with pretty low ping times.

Odd that my speed is slower than Scott's, yet I have a B+ grade and he has a C grade. Unless they include upload speed- which nobody cares about unless you do a lot of photo uploading.

Or game. Upload speed pretty important there, also.

I used to have cable internet at our old house with ~60Mb down. Those were the good old days.
Now? Living out in BFE, paying the same amount for 2 line DSL. A whopping 5Mb down. Ooof! Hoping my options expand in the next 12 months.

Here's what i'm getting. Uverse Max. I'm about 50 feet from the phone box in my neighborhood, so speeds are about 1mb off what they advertise. This is using my Linux Machine. My windows machine gets 10mb less.

Huh. I figured my 25mbps up would be akin to crawling nowadays.
We do a ton of streaming and it's more than adequate, even with 3 or 4 tv's watching netflix or Prime or Plex.
Now if I can just get it to stop dropping.
I rma's my new Motorola Surfboard 6141 and have two Almond routers, one for wireless and one for a range extender.
Everything is totally sick when it works. This Surfboard has made me nuts since I got it in February, though.
I have to say that even though I only have 10 mbps, I can stream on three or four devices with no problem. I started to go up to 15 but as long as I can stream I don't really care. We rarely stream on more than one device at a time because it's just me and Lovey.

Once I get rid of umpteen kids, which is just a few months, we'll just need to worry about 1 or 2 tv's streaming at once, Greg.
I just need to get this constant disconnect thing solved.
I don't expect the replacement modem to do it, it's the infrastructure.
I need to get a less sensitive modem like a Zoom 5343 (http://www.amazon.com/Zoom-5354-DOCSIS-Wireless-Router/dp/B00UVOV82E/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1438549204&sr=8-3&keywords=zoom+modem).
I gotta say about a year ago I redid all kinds of crap at my house because of my stupid AT&T microcell having problems. I reran all the phone wire from the demarc using CAT 5e instead of the old phone wire that was there. Replaced all the jacks and since I have DSL I had a buddy that works for the phone company to replace the demarc with one that has the DSL filter built in instead of using the one's that plug into each jack inside the house. It helped make it more stable than it was before.

Mark, your gear can handle a minimum of 300Mb/s.Go straight from your modem to your laptop with your cat5 cable and test your speed. Then call Time Warner and get to complaining. Make them give you free months for half the time since you last upgraded, too.
They did the same thing to us awhile ago. We signed up for the ghastly speed and didn't get it. So I checked the modem they'd provided. It wasn't even capable of delivering the speed they sold us.
So I bought a new router and found that they still had our service capped at the level below what we were paying for.
You'd think they were Verizon, they way they rob a brother. Grrr.
We also have zero drop within 20 feet of our almond router or the Almond range extender.
But what you reported isn't uncommon.
I don't think the slow is because of your router, it's a nice piece of equipment. I'd guess it's the wireless card in that old D620.
You may be able to upgrade the firmware in that card and get better speed, but it's about $150 worth of laptop nowadays. You'll have lots of bottlenecks in the old girl.
Regardless, there's nothing wrong with it.
That's way more than enough speed to do anything she can handle. :tu
