Someone "knucklehad" predicted the 2014 NY Mets will win 90 games. Is this same "knucklehead" counting the AA & AAA teams as well as the big league ball club?? :r :r

I'm predicting a fourth place finish in the NL East. Pitching was not improved and Harvey is out for the year. Good news is that the outfield is very much improved and Legares gained a year of experience at the big league level. SS and 1B are still glaring issues. Will Tejada/Ike/Duda bounce back from invisible years and contribute anything this year??

I love my Mets, but there are way too many uncertainties to think anything better than a 4th place finish. Now, if everyone has a career year, or performs way above expectations...then a 90 win season may be attainable...but I still feel we are two years away from that happening in Flushing. :2

Either way...I'm gonna be rooting for them.

LET'S GO METS!!!

Speaking of flushing....here's to the Mets....flushing right down the toilet! :r

Now, now, now Keith...don't get me started about the Philladelphia Follies!! Does Howard prove he can stay heathy? Does Ruiz prove he can produce without 'roids? Which pitcher retires before the season is over this year? How's that "rookie" manager working out for ya this year?

I believe we placed 3rd in the NL East last year...what about your boys? :D

Try this???

Trade Ike Davis, send Lucas Duda down to minor leagues, put Daniel Murphy at first base and Eric Young Jr. at second base. Here's a potential lineup:

1.) 2B Eric Young Jr.
2.) 1B Daniel Murphy
3.) 3B David Wright
4.) LF Curtis Granderson
5.) RF Chris Young
6.) CF Juan Lagares
7.) C Travis D'Arnaud
8.) SS Ruben Tejada
9.) PITCHER

Dave, I'm ok with this EXCEPT for Tejada. Unless he proves he's serious about playing. It was partly the Mets fault as they handed him the job after Reyes left. He got lazy...make him earn it and maybe things change. But this still doesn't solve our pitching issues. Starters #3 through #5 and the entire bullpen.

kelmac07

Mac - I see your point with Tejada, but who else do we have for SS?

That's my point!! Alderson did ABSOLUTELY NOTHING to improve these positions...

Shortstop (nothing but Tejada...and what did he hit last year? .202 before getting hurt.

Starting Pitching (banking on prospects and ANOTHER over the hill veteran)

Bullpen (who's our closer? Johnny Rottentree?)

First Base (rolling the dice with Duda/Davis...AGAIN...how'd that work out for you last year Sandy?)

Very frustrated with the ownership...money was saved and yet, we only picked up Granderson/Young/Colon. I love the Granderson deal. If Young performs as he's capable, I'm ok with that move. Just not thrilled with Colon...'roids, over 40, overweight, etc...I see him on the DL by the end of May). Guess Wilpons wanted to pocket some more.

This could be a loooong season (again).

I hear ya Dave. Niese is supposed to be our opening day starter and he went to NY yesterday for an MRI. Said it was "clean"...but the Mets training staff has been known to screw a thing or two up in their time. :r :r

Trying really hard to remain positive for the season.

Dave128
02-28-2014, 01:26 PM
Think positive thoughts!
If team management is relying on Niese, we're going to have problems!

This thread would've been better if it was up when Sandy said the team should win 90 games.
I was really fired up about it.
Now that it's been a day or so, much like the Mets season, it's over and done with. :D

Truthfully, I thought the Mets were going to have a big offseason. They didn't!
They made 1 impact move, Granderson. The rest are maybes.
And when you weigh Grandy against Byrd's production last year, there might only be a slight improvement.
Not bringing in Nelson Cruz was a mistake. Especially when you look at him only getting 8 mil for 1 year.
Granted, he doesn't make the Mets a contender, but for 8 Mil you're able to inject a little life into your fan base.

So, did the Mets take it easy this year because Harvey is hurt? Your thoughts?
Initially I thought that might be the case, but I honestly think the Wilpon's are broke!

kelmac07
02-28-2014, 01:29 PM
Harvey would have been the opening day starter. Hoping Wheeler and Syndergaard make big time impacts in spring.

kelmac07
02-28-2014, 01:35 PM
I agree Dom...Cruz should have been pursued. 8 mil a year? Hell, we gave that to Ollie Perez. :r :r

At first, I thought the off-season inactivty was due to the fact that they thought with Harvey hurt, they were already out of it (if that was the case...we will never win with them at the top).

But I honestly think the Wilpons are BROKE...the whole Madoff thing did them in, but they won't sell. :bh :bh

FWIW, of last night's starting outfielders, not a single one of them is above the Mendoza Line. The only OF on the current roster that eclipses it is Eric Young Jr, and he's hitting .222.

The Mets have done really well for themselves.
Especially when you consider that they haven't hit for a damn, and now with Dice-K, are on their fourth closer before May even starts.
Looking back, they were dreadful against the Nats, and I thought they would be done by June.
But this is baseball. Things always even out over 162 games.
The Mets will still be done, I'll just have to wait until the All Star break to see it. :D

Can't argue with any of this Dom. I have been pleasantly surprised so far...but for how long?

Tied for the worst batting average in the NL, closer by "who's healthy?", Wright hasn't hit the ball, 1B is a BLACK HOLE for us, Tejada WON'T hit, outfield is hitting a combined below the mendoza line, and Granderson is playing like stir-fried dog sh*t (at least offensively).

On a bright note...Murphy continues to hit, LaGares was tearing it up before he went on the DL, bullpen has been surprisingly ok (we know this will come crashing down) and I believe Collins has done a bang up job so far.

Bottom line: I'm enjoying this while I can.

Mets p*ss another one away today...thanks Valverde!! deGrom pitches another fine game and has two more hits. The kid is hitting .800 in three games. Hell, we ought to put him in the lineup everyday. :D

Mets dismiss hitting coach, release Valverde. WOW!! Didn't see those two moves coming (I joke). :r :r Surprised they stuck with either through 50 games.

7 - 17 for May, so far. Not exactly steller. Not so sure that the Mets are going to reach that 90 win goal that was set before the season started.

I think we should give 50 Cent a contract. He could fit right into the current rotation.

That "first pitch" wasn't worth $ 0.10. Didn't he used to wear all Yankees gear when he was huge? Now that he's washed up, he's a Mets fan. Figures!! :bh :bh

Mets take down the Pirates, 5-0 this afternoon. Colon continues his Jeckyl and Hyde ways. Wright hits his 4th HR...a rare ocaasion this season.

On a day when the Mets earn a shutout victory, at home, and start a 2 game winning streak, you would think I wouldn't have much to say, BUT, what the F*** is Lagares doing trying to steal 3rd with 2 outs?
Things like that are what make you scratch your head with this team.
It's plays like that, that make everyone from the players, to the coaches, to the manager, to the front office, to the owners look completely incompetent!
