To be perfectly honest after 25 years - life's to short for cheap smokes. I would rather seek out a great deal on a great smoke so I tend to look at c-bid, famous aucton, and jr's auctions. I watch the boards for vendor deals and I gift and trade a bunch. Not to say that all smokes I like are pricy I'm in no way a snob (no reference to the cigar forum) for example the Sol Cubana Cuban Cabinet is a very fine smoke at around $2. As someone stated in another thread after 25 years I should know what I like.:ss

Great we will add that to the list. We are simply constructing a reference guide for noobs or someone looking for a great smoke at a decent price. Sometimes I feel a lot of these cigars are over looked because there not popular enough...Who says a cheap smoke cant be great?

Back when they were under $20 a box, I would buy the La Vieja Habana Fumas by Drew Estate. I wish they still made the originals. I bought a few boxes at $15/bx. Best stick for under a buck.

I'm here.. You have my permission to cut and paste anything and everything from the thread you care to; or are my posts on CS the property of the Jon now?

I just haven't been buying many cigars lately but will add recommendations to your thread here when I have some new ones to suggest.

One of my last suggestions in the CS thread I would like to again stress is a kick ass cigar for twice the price: JML 1902. It should run you around $3, (http://fullerspullers.us has 'em.)

Don Tuto I rather silently suggested in the old thread.. Let me say I have been enjoying these salty Costa Rican Puros. $30 - $50 for a bundle of 25 and only $5 for priority mail shipping from Florida. (www.dontuto.com)

I'm smoking through my third bundle of Flor de Copan naturals purchased from JR Cigars for under $1.50 a stick.

The Flor de Copan's match the taste profile I enjoy, a strong floral overtone with little to no spice. Construction of the cigars are excellent although 1 out of 5 seem to have burn issues. The wrapper is very thin. Removing the band before the cherry warms up the glue tends to tear it.

Bad news but a good deal; Holts is now closing out their Boardwalk house brand. I suspect this price will stick until they are gone, $40 any size including the 7"x60 jawbreaker. This cigar was mentioned many times by myself and others in the CSTCST (Club Stogie TXMatt's Cheap Smoke Thread). If you haven't tried it yet get a box to try now so you have time to order more before they are gone...

While we are talking Holt's, their #35 house blend is also on sale for $25 a bundle. This is a pretty standard Corojo wrapped Nicaraguan puro. I would guess Tropical makes it for them but I have not investigated that assumption beyond tasting the cigar. Burn can be bad at times, not CFO bad but TT bad; if you dry box them for a couple of days the wrappers will burn. The flavor is worth the couple of touch ups IMHO..

Finally another Holt's cheapie; the Padilla Habano Torpedos are $30/10. There aren't many cigars for $3 as fine as these.

I will scout other etailers for deals in coming days, as Holt's still isn't paying me for the business I send their way.......

Cuban Crafters Cabinet Selection (Robusto) - $3@, or $2@ on sale, at Cuban Crafters.

DPG Fumadores - $1.50@ on any size this month at Holts, otherwise about $2.25@

Perdomo2 (squared) Mistakes Milenario (Torpedo) - $2.40/stick at Cigars Int'l, $1.60 or less on CBid.

Nestor Reserve Conneticut - $1.60/stick at Cigars Int'l, less than $1@ on CBid.

Dear OHMatt -

Thank you for your comments.

Don TuTo cigars are a Costa Rican Puro made using long filler tobaccos grown in Costa Rica.

Just looking at the thread. While in NC. I visited the J&R Outlet
Their Alternative bundles.
I bought J&R Alternative to H. Hupman Rothchild (Maduro) about a 5X 50. Medium body, well made. Very Solidly constructed. Not a soft Cigar. a bundle of 20 = about $30

J.R Alt. To Punch Gran Diadema Maduro 7” X 52 Ring
Med to Heavy Full Flavor Burns Nice $30 for bundle of 20

Both Cigars are great in a car trip. Enjoyable, Satisfying & Not Expensive.
Hope you enjoy them.

Bahia Blue at CI $35/20. I'm not sure if these (like other CI closeouts) are slightly different or if they just need to age; but so far they don't seem quite as good as the BB's I have smoked in the past. At $1.75 a stick however they are still a good cigar at a great price.

Vigilante Petite Corona Corojo $30/25 - I recall seeing these arrive at my favorite shop in Texas, Two Brothers and commenting that they would soon be in the closeout bins. While these were marketed as being made in "Rocky Patel's Factories" (which are actually owned and operated by Nestor Plascencia), they didn't have the slick man's name all over them. If Nording cigars by Rocky Patel couldn't make it, why would a cigar with a retarded name like Vigilante and a $5 price tag for the PC survive? It was definitely less than a year before they were 1/2 price; I think I gave in and bought a box when they dropped to $45. These are a decent smoke for the price. They aren't kick you in the face Corojo, but a milder Corojo blend. They still have ample spice and flavor, and lack the "vegetal" notes that are exhibited by many of the cigars that Patel markets. Suprisingly similar blend to the "Vibe" cigars that EO brands did a better job marketing..

Vega Talanga Tercio Corona - just enjoyable enough that I would consider buying again. The cigar is below what I would call "good" but a worthwhile smoke; the only $1 CI stick I would suggest to a friend.

I don't remember noticing a roughness with the two that I've smoked. They were the #4 size, but since you brought up the question I fired up another one. This one is the Belicoso size, and it did seem a little harsh at first but has now smooth out and is smoking great.
If I were to order more I think I would get the smaller #4 size.

I have noticed the #4's being a bit harsh when smoked hot; and the first few inches can be too hot unless you do the whole anal retentive lighting ritual.
If you are like me, I burn the hell out of the foot and then draw while torching it more.. While this can make a cigar rough around the edges for the first inch, it also makes burn issues much less likely.. Leoninos rock for the money reguardless..

I have been in love with this line as of late, and am still waiting for another buy one get one free box deal:

Famous Private Selection Nicaraguan Corojo - especially the corona, uses a '99 corojo wrapper IIRC, and this is also reaching I know, but I smoked an older (5-6months) Tat J21 just before one, and I found it eerily similar in flavor. This smoke is made by TT and IIRC, Pepin buys a lot of tobacco from them still. Hell of a smoke, and wished it was in bundles for even more savings, instead of famous' boxes. Either way, perfect construction, and awesome rich flavor.

They're right around $3 on cbid. I think Joe Cigar had

Also the Saint Luis Rey maddies are quite good. And the

Actually, the Gurkha Regents (regular & Nepalese Warriors) can usually be had for $2.50 or less on the Devil Site (CBid), and you can get the San Luis Reys at Mike's Cigars for way less than Famous - $52.95 for the box of 25 Rothchilds & $61.95 for 25 Toros. And their shipping is cheaper than Famous
($2.50/item). :)

First I would like to say Its nice to have a new list now hopefully with help from everyone we could make a nice list bigger than tmax's old list. As a suggestion as in the tmax OP he included $4 dollar and i think $5 dollar smokes too.

I have 3 to add to the list if interested. First off EO #21 (I happen to be smoking one now) Good Cheap Mild-Med from the guys at United Tobacco at Ci they go for $35 to $40 for a bundle of 21 so that puts them at $1.90 for the most expensive sticks

Second and third as they are the same smoke only difference is one has ligero and the other does not. they are a Rocky Cigars House Blend (blended by DPG but as we all know he has stopped doing a lot of his house blends but they claim they kept the blend just new makers.) I like this cigar as it is Cheap and is a Corojo Wrapped Corillo Filled Cigar (pepin style blend without the pepin price) They go for $43 to $50 for a box of 25 and currently they are throwing in 5 extra for a total of 30. That puts the most exp boxes at $1.60 a stick.

Lastly Tat P's at least the Robusto and Corona Gorda vitolas the last time i got them though was before SCHIP so someone might have to check this with a call to Atlantic as the last time i got a box it was a box of 31 for $75 which makes it $2.40 a stick. This may not be correct still so with the schip i don't know if it will still make it under the $3 mark but i bet it still will cause with that box count it would have to cost more than $93 to go over the $3 mark. I actually think all Sizes of this smoke may make it. If you are weary of putting this on a list just shoot atlantic an email and they will send you the prices.

Sorry for the long post, Thanks for getting this thread going on this board!

$2.25 retail (in KY) for a Pepin made cigar!! Life is good my friends.

Tabacos Baez Series S F (short filler) is my new favorite morning smoke. I pulled apart a nub and would guess the cigar has 3 full size leaves and the rest is sandwiched clippings. The cigar holds ash quite well so I have no concern enjoying them in my car.

I stand corrected, I am glad the Fumadores weren't missed they are a great inexpensive cigar.

Any one ever have Carlos Torano Dominicos Maduro's. I like most all the Torano stuff so I picked up a box of 25 for 31 bucks. I am sure there no 59 gold but I'm gonna give them a shot.

I just picked up a bundle of Dominicos Maduros and although I've only had 1 of them so far I am pretty impressed. These guys are made by the Torano gang who makes many a other brands as well of a few good ones of their own... Like the Exodus Gold 59. They will age nicely I believe and can be had for 30-40 for 25 torpedos. I have paid a lot more for a lesser, mediocre stix. The ash is a nice white which for me is frequently indicitive of a good smoke. I have picked a clear chocolate flavor and many others. The wrapper is a beautiful dark maduro (maybe oscuro) that I don,t believe is died as is frequently the case with "cheap" smokes. If you've had these please chime in with your thoughts.

Couldn't stand it any longer seeing the Brahmas for a buck a stick at Holts I finally picked some up.

These are not the old Brahmas from a few years ago (which I still have a healthy supply of).

Old Brahmas still very strong - the aroma off the foot is loaded with Ligero, wrapper is very reddish/rosado (hence the nickname Brahma "reds") and despite 3 years rest they still need lots of touch-ups, they are big (true 54 gauge).

New Brahma -- Not nearly the amount of Ligero, just south of medium in strength but plenty of body and flavor, undercured corojo wrapper on many with "greenish" splotches, advertised as a 52 gauge but it is standard 50 x 50 robusto. Burn on the "New" Brahma is far better than the old Brahma "Reds".

The new Brahma IS NOT the same cigar as the old Brahma, despite Holts telling me they simply misplaced a large amount of the old Brahmas in the warehouse that is why they came back - which sounded very fishy. Despite that, it is worth the $1.00/stick. If you like bundle Tabacalara Tropical smokes I think you will find the "New" Brahma is right in line with the TT Factory Directs and Rare Connecticuts. Not nearly as well made or as strong as the old Brahma "Reds", but at $1.00/per the new ones are worth the price of admission IMO.

I recently picked up a box of Don Elias robusto (and, more recently, the churchill size as well) off the devil site for at or under $1/stick. These have been rather enjoyable and tasty smokes. Smooth wrapper, easy draw, mild to mid-bodied smoke with just enough flavor to keep things interesting.

Best cheap smoke lately is the Famous Nicaraguan 7000. Am probably wrong, but I think this is a Don Pepin Garcia cigar made for Famous.
Scored some maduro torpedos for $26 a bundle at cigarauctioneer in November, but the torpedos have not been around lately. Should have bought 18 bundles, because I've been smoking this cigar more and more.
Pro: They have loads of spicy flavor.
Con: They burn fast.
Best: They're cheap. And free shipping on a bundle.

I just noticed you didn't include the Famous Nicaraguan 5000.
I personally find this selection even tastier than the 3000.
And at $46/20-pack (including shipping), it's one of the best deals out there.

I'm curious who makes the different Nic blends. You hear a lot of buzz on the 3000s and almost nothing on the others.

Moderately Cheap-
Brickhouse
La Traviata
El Baton

Really Cheap-
Tabacos Baez Serie SF
Diesel Unholy Cocktail
La Vieja Habana

I just ordered a box of the La Vieja Habana and I saw that they're on the list here, but I was wondering what people had to say about them.

I think the whole line is pretty solid for what you pay. I prefer the Maduro's, & the Cameroon, but like I said... They're all pretty tasty IMO.

I have a hard time believing that you will dissapointed for the $$$ spent.:tu

Would bet the mortgage that the 7000s are by Don Pepin. Read the writeup about the triple cap and "one of the most famous tabacaleras in Nicaragua."
http://www.famous-smoke.com/brand/famous+nicaraguan+7000+cigars

I asked a Famous flunky if these cigars were by DPG. His reply was "I won't deny it."
Scored 2 bundles of the 7000 maduro torpedos for $26 each from cigarauctioneer when the line was introduced in November. Superb construction, emphatic tobacco flavor tinged with spice in a consistent everyday smoke. Have yet to encounter a bummer cigar. And shipping is free.
My guy at Famous said the torpedos are not available for now, so would substitute the maduro toros. Have not tried the natural cigars. Any of yinz tried them?

Thanks for the accolades, ripper. I'll neither confirm nor deny any claims as to where they come from but you nailed everything else. The Torpedo Maduros were a one-time shot come and gone but we'll have a steady supply of the other sizes. Not my personal favorite house blend but damn close to it.

Humberto

Spill it Humberto, what is your favorite FSS House blend?

BTW, I have my last of your Cajones cigars in my portable humi right now; will probably get torched tomrorrow or Thursday..

My favorite house blend varies just about every week. Currently, I'm on a Pai Gow kick. Med-Full bodied sweet tipped cigar.. Similar to La Fontana or Baccarat. My all-time favorite, though, has got to be Puros Huerfanos 681. But I can't talk about that one. The manufacturer has us on a stupid gag order. :rlzI can only say that it's an identical blend to something far more expensive and highly touted all over the boards. If you're so inclined, I challenge you guys to figure it out. Consensus opinions on these sort of things are usually pretty accurate, though. :gl

I'm not sure if it's been mentioned here, but the Indian Tabac maduros and Indian Tabac Super Fuerte maduros by Rocky Patel are a good, dang near free at cigarbid cigar. They're dipped dye maduros, super cheap construction, and would make a purist jump off a building, but they taste very good and are an incredible smoke for the money.
If you like a sweet medium/mild maduro, it'll fit the bill. An excellent newb choice that'll provide hours of flavor for a very little ching. :tu

I love these and they are cheap for sure. They used to be better a few years ago and I don't think they were dip dyed at that time. I think they even came in boxes then too.

I don't understand why a company would choose not to reveal that a house brand was produced by a well respected cigar maker such as Pepin Garcia. If the Famous Nicaraguan 7000's are made by Pepin, say so and sell 'em like hotcakes!

It's more likely that the gag order is coming from the producer, they might feel that it devalues their brand if they let it be known that they are making cheap smokes.

You can get the ITSFs in boxes of 25. CI almost always has some sort of deal on the mazos of 20, though, so it's usually a no-brainer to grab the mazo unless you *really* want to pay for the box.
As for cheap construction, I find the ITs (and a few other bundle smokes) to be as good or better than many premiums.

I'd like to add one to the list if its allright. The JR Edicion Limitada Alternative to the Montecristo Edmundo. Bundles of 20 for $35.95 which comes out to $1.80 per stick (and if you include the $2.50 per bundle shipping charge) $1.92 per stick. These are great smokes:tu

Famous Nicaraguan 7K Super Toros - buzz is they are DPG stick. I would agree and like them a little better than LHOs.

New favorite -- EO Naked Bundles from the party source (http://www.thepartysource.com/cigars/nakedbundles). Awesome cigar!!

El Cobres (at Famous) -- Oliva product!

Siboney Reserve is a cheaper DPG offering with a unique milder flavor (http://www.famous-smoke.com/brand/siboney+reserve+cigars). I pick them up on sale for less than list price. Recommend LHO or FSS N7ks before these, but an interesting change of pace DPG smoke on the cheap (when on sale).

Puros Huerfanos 681 robusto (http://www.famous-smoke.com/brand/puros+huerfanos+blend+681+cigars). Buzz is it is a second of Drew Estate Liga Privada #9. I don't know about that, but I think it is a hell of a stick in it's own right. Again, try to get them on sale (or cigarmonster) if interested to keep in conformity with this thread.

I am not a huge fan of the brand, but a grabbed a single in a cbid order a few weeks back and am about halfway through it and this is pretty good.

Not outstanding, but for the price you can get these for I would do it again.

Nice thick smoke, pleasant enough flavor and good burn.

Diesel unholy cocktail
Alex Bradly supervisor selection....got a bundle from the devil site...not bad for under $3

Ryan,

My bad...didn't mean to sound redundant when I posted about the 3x3s....where did you find those? I think they're fantastic as well...especially for the price!

Mayorga Maduro Torpedo

I've gone through 3 or 4 boxes and find the flavors deep and satisfying, I'd even say complex.

Beware that last month I received two boxes with grey wrappers, not the usual coffee-black, one of which was moldy, or something funky; but I saw no fuzz. These weren't smokeable. My vendor, the Cigar Place, readily exchanged the first box and refunded my money after receiving the second dud box. So I betook myself to JRs and got it right.

Arturo Fuente's are good starters, its probably best to visit a local shop and pick out 2 or 3 different smokes to try. Maybe a Punch or Romeo and Julieta as well. :2

Tyler

I think they would be over $3 at the local shop but I see what your saying because it would benefit to sample before you buy a box. You could also buy a 5er from one of the cigar auction sites or Cigar Monster.

I think there's a couple of discontinued smokes in the list by now, but most should be available. Some are exclusive to online vendors, like the Famous Nic 3000s. For mild(er), something like the Perdomo 826 or 5 Vegas Classic would be a decent starter smoke. :2

Hi Guys,
Famous-Smoke.com has a 5 for 3 special...I just picked up MAXX by Alec Braddley (5x58) for $15. I actually picked up two, with one it came out to ca. $5 per stick with shipping, only $3.60 per stick for 10. I personally like the medium / full bodies cigars and have not gone wrong with the MAXX.

Contents:

1 - Rocky Patel Decade Torpedo (6.5" x 52)
1 - Rocky Patel Olde World Reserve Corojo Toro (6.5" x 52)
5 - La Gloria Cubana Churchill (7" x 50)
2 - Rocky Patel Vintage 1990 Torpedo (6.1" x 52)
4 - Rocky Patel Signature Toro (6" x 52)
2 - Rocky Patel Edge Corojo Toro (6" x 52)
1 - Rocky Patel 1961 Torpedo (6.1" x 52)
5 - Hoyo Excalibur Epicure (5.25" x 50)
4 - RP ’Patel Bros’ Toro (6.5" x 52)
5 - Punch Pita (6.1" x 50)
1 - Rocky Patel Sun Grown Torpedo (6.1" x 52)

I have not tried every one of those but I have tried a majority and they are pretty solid smokes in my opinion.

supervisor selection cigars from FSS...they are essentially the Maxx by Alec Bradley, just in bundles..great stick!

another of my favorite sleeper sticks is the La Floridita Limited...look for them on the monster, when on sale they can be had for around $3 a stick...IMO they are just as good if not better than many $10 sticks i've smoked :)

Howdy cheap cigar smokers,

I've been on hiatus for a while, but thought I would share a few bargain cigars I have been smoking lately:

Pinar Del Rio Classico - This is a great cigar and is being discontinued and blown out in both retail and mail order. I tried one when I was seeking a replacement for 601 Black at The Party Source (local tobacconist) and returned to buy a a box @ ~$3 a stick. According to reports from IPCPRSTUV, stronger flavored Connecticut wrapped cigars are a growing trend. This is not strong, but it isn't the typical airball Dominican Connecticut cigar either. I have since found them and purchased many more boxes from cbid at around $2 a stick. Cigarbid has some pretty old ones shipping (3-4 years old), and they lack the second band on the newer ones in retail stores but the blend and quality are the same as retail (they don't seem to be a crappy Keith Meier edition).

Now that I have trashed K.M. (since he does sell some Dog Rockets); here is an exclusive of his I really like:
Alec Bradley Harvest Selection '97 - ~$2.50 a stick on CBid if you work, often much less frustrating to but outright for $3 a stick from CI. The construction quality and burn of these is amazing for a 'house brand', and I like the blend better than the highly touted Prensado.

La Reloba Seleccion Sumatra Corona - $3.75 a single -10% box quantity from my local Tobacconist. First let me say IMO you should avoid the Mexican and Habano wrapped versions of this blend, and also the larger ring gauge vitolas - it is all about this Vitola.

Tabacos Baeaez S.F. - $1.75 - Best mixed filler cigar out there. Good flavor and burn but no complexity.

enjoy,
-Matt-

I'm almost embarrassed by this. But I really enjoy them so screw it.

On a goof I hit a bundle of these "Roly #6 Natural Torpedos (http://www.thompsoncigar.com/product/ROLY-NO-6-NATURAL-TORPEDO/82637.uts?cm_vc=10001) when they were on sale for $19.95. They're pretty ugly and very... spongy (loose mix-filler roll.) but I've gotta tell ya, they draw like they're not even there. They burn nice and they taste good enough that I actually actively reach for them.

Thompson had the same sale a couple Mondays ago and I picked up 4 more bundles. Then in the box the catalog had boxes of 100 (both natural and maduro) listed at a buck a stick.

Really, give them a shot. With two full coolidors I'm amazed that I reach for these things with all the super premiums and such I have in there, but I do.

This is a great resource! I won't add any of my el cheapo favorites to the list. I'm sure they've all been smoked before and don't measure up.

Good add there for #58, Dave; that J Fuego Original vitola is just outstanding for the $2 /stick I pay. Since they are "fresh" I bet the sticks have amazing aging potential, but I keep smoking them within a week.

Mark, if you have suggestions by all means put them up there. You might be withholding someone's Holy Grail cigar. Taste is subjective and opinions are like a$$h0l3s..

My go-to cheap smokes are the Gran Habano Vintage 2002 (CI), La Floridita Limited (FSS), and Factory Throwouts (can be found several places). I believe each of those with over 6 months rest (a year is better) stands up to cigars several times the cost. The Factorys in particular are way better than they have any right to be. My local shop sells them for $30 for 20, and that's California prices.

I had a friend hand me one a while back and he was talking them up big time. When he told me the price I thought there was no way it could be any good, but damned if it isn't a great cigar.

The Lot 826 Slow aged from Perdomo is my #1 favorite cheap smoke. These sticks taste phenomenal. Their only downfall is the construction and for the price there really is no complaint.

I smoke many a few of the Slow-Aged, too.
The trick to avoiding construction issues (wrapper crapping)
is to store them at 70 rh. I keep these in a separate humidor
at the higher level, & no problems for years. Try it.

Maybe it's me, but I've NEVER liked ANY Victor Sinclair cigar I've smoked.
After sampling about 4-5 different ones, I gave up on the entire line.:td

Not just you. Only ones I ever thought were any good at all were the little 4x40 triple corojo's that came in tins. Oh, and almost forgot....the primeros are not bad for what they are: a cheap, mild and fairly creamy connie.
