Another year...and I believe this one's gonna a lot more painful than last year. Minor league outfield (at best) and a completely depleted bullpen...hoping for anything but a last place finish in the NL East. :D

It did take until just about the All-Star break for them to completely collapse last season. So, there's that.

Well you wouldn't get them busted, were those players a bit more willing to get THEIRS busted during a game instead of flopping like 2nd-grade girls. :r

With the current state of our pitching, we're not going to need an outfield anyway. All they'll have to do is stand there, look pretty and watch the ball fly over the fence!

Is it your life goal to bash Mets fans? :)

I wasn't bashing the Met fans, I was agreeing with your statement. :)

But quite frankly, the Met outfield is a joke.
Such a joke, that when Sandy Alderson was asked about his outfield, his response was "What outfield?".
I'm sure the fact that the Mets have done nothing to improve their biggest weakness has you angry.
Just don't be angry at me, be angry at Sandy! :D

Dave128

I'm happy to bring Met fans even more bad news. ;)
Atlanta has just acquired Justin Upton from the Diamondbacks in a 7 player trade.

Since we were talking about outfields, let's look at Atlanta's

BJ Upton, Justin Upton, Jason Heyward
When you compare that to the Met outfield, ouch!

Hell, even the Marlins have Giancarlo Stanton in their outfield!
Mac, grab your glove, you're going in! :r:r

Mets go down to the Nats today 8-5. Cowgill and Byrd continue to rake this spring training. Possibly pushing Duda out of the picture completely, at least to start the season. Den Dekker's glove is Gold Glove caliber, however, his bat is nowhere near major league ready. Starting outfield may be Byrd, Cowgill, and Valdespin with Baxter thrown i as the fourth.

David Wright named fourth captain in Mets history. The organization officially bestowed that honor upon him Thursday afternoon, naming Wright the fourth captain in franchise history and the third active captain in the Majors.

And Jon Niese was named the opening day starter. After the spring everyone else on the staff had, it had to be him. He is the only one who has pitched "decent"...he had a 0.71 ERA this spring. Looks like Santana is going to start the season on the DL. Here we go.

Dave128
03-21-2013, 07:28 PM
I think it's pretty great Wright is the captain. He's a great motivator for this team. Sucks about Santana. I figured he'd be healthy by now.

kelmac07
03-27-2013, 08:58 PM
I hear ya Dave...but the outfield is a AA outfield at best. Byrd is hitting well, but his glove will not be a factor. Duda has hit for power this spring, but take away his 5 HRs and 12 RBIs and he's done nothing else...his glove is also suspect. That leaves one OF spot free..and God knows who's gonna get it. Neuenweiss is hitting like .069 this spring. And to boot, Tejada is hitting .080. And don't get me started on the pitching staff.

Dave128
03-28-2013, 11:23 AM

Projected Opening Day Lineup...

1. CF: Jordany Valdespin
2. 2B: Daniel Murphy
3. 3B: David Wright
4. 1B: Ike Davis
5. RF: Marlon Byrd
6. LF: Lucas Duda
7. C: John Buck
8. SS: Ruben Tejada
9. SP: Jon Niese

My guess is 71 wins this year. :D

Mike Baxter (minor leaguer)
Marlon Byrd (over the hill veteran)
Collin Cowgill (up n coming???)
Lucas Duda (verdict still out)
Kirk Nieuwenhuis (has not liven up to the hype)
Jordany Valdespin (could be the best of the lot...and he's truly an infielder)

Mets win the season opener against the Padres 11-2. Niese went 6.2 strong innings and the offense went crazy. Cowgill hits a Grand Slam in the 7th. Cowgill, Byrd, Murphy, Tejada, Buck and even Neise all had two hits...13 total for the team. Savoring this!! :tu :tu

Can you say R.A. who?? :r :r

How quickly Met fans forget!
R.A. gave you your first Cy Young winner in nearly 30 years, and a reason to watch a dreadful ball club every five days.
He was there to take the ball and put an end to losing streak after losing streak, and never spent time on the DL.
And when he looked for a contract, he asked for a reasonable amount ( 2 yrs $25 mil) and didn't hold the Met fans or ownership hostage.
To turn your back on a guy, who did nothing but good things for your franchise, makes you just as bad as the Wilpons!! :2

Harvey is a great young pitcher, if he doesn't get hurt, and continues to improve, I'll be very excited when the Yankees sign him as a free agent! :D

How quickly we forget???? I didn't trade him away to Toronto? He's not on our roster this year. He's not going to help us this year. I'm a Mets fan first. Should the Mets have given him the two years at the price he was asking...HELL TO THE YES!! But the Wilpons, NOT Mac didn't allow that. Does that mean I stop cheering for him? Hell no, he was great for the Mets for all the reasons you listed above. And now I can root for him on beating your sorry a$$ Yankees more often. Looks like Harvey is going to be the "shining light" in this season, just as R.A. was for us last year.

How dare you tell me that I'm just as bad as the Wilpons. :su :su :su

Assuming you meant the Mets would WIN more games than the Yanks, as opposed to the alternative assumption that they would WILL more games, then I wish to point out that it is still April, so you have plenty of time to make up what is presently a 5-game deficit. :D

WTF was Terry Collins thinking last night?
Allowing Matt Harvey to throw 121 pitches in 5 1/3 innings, in an April game, against the Marlins, is lunacy!!!
I typically think pitchers are babied too much, but you have to try and protect this kid a little.
It's not like he's a seasoned vet, that understands his body, and knows how much he can give you.
You would think Collins would've learned his lesson after the Johan no hitter debacle.

Dave128
05-22-2013, 08:24 AM
Gotta give Wright a break. He plays hard every game. He's entitled to a flub every now and then.

Why the hell, with Ike Davis coming to the plate, did the third base coach stop the run from scoring? Had a better chance of getting a run that way than with Davis at the plate.

kelmac07
05-22-2013, 08:37 AM

Dave128
05-22-2013, 08:44 AM
Same reason he didn't get sent down last season. Collins is hopeful that Davis will get things started sometime soon.

kelmac07
05-22-2013, 08:48 AM
But he didn't start hitting last year until after the All Star break. Now after that break, he was on fire. But this year he's actually hitting worse than he was at this time last year. At least Turner hits the ball, he has nowhere near ther power of Ike, but at least he doesn't strike out ever other at bat. Not sure what Collins is thinking.

Dave128
05-22-2013, 09:12 AM
My guess is that, since the Mets are hosting the All Star game this year, Collins won't be sending Davis to AAA. Not that Davis has a chance in hell to make the All Star roster, but I think it may be more of a "respect" thing.

Aww hell, what the frig is Collins thinking??!!

Jeez Mac, he went 3-2 with 2 Rbi's and a walk yesterday. Plus he drove in the go ahead runs
Might have been better to bring it up after he went 2-10 with 8 strikeouts Friday and Saturday
Who do you want to play first?
Is Ike Davis the reason, out of the 30 teams, only 2 have a worse record than the Mets?
Granted he isn't helping the situation, but letting him work through this up here, isn't ruining the Mets chances.

Funny thing is, the way Met fans feel about Matt Harvey, that's how they used to feel about Ike Davis.
How the mighty have fallen, and how easily Met fans forget!

Davis started out horribly last year as well. He didn't start showing signs of improvement until after the All Star break, and then he was on fire. But come on man...4-46????? That's like an .087 batting average!!! Before yesterdays game, Ike was 2-43 with an a$$load of strikeouts. Ike isn't the SOLE reason that we have the third worst record in the majors...that belongs to our pitching staff (minus Harvey), and the outfield (which has been a complete disaster). Besides Murphy and Wright...no one else has hit the ball consistently. For the payroll, we've fielded, at best, a AA ballclub. Mets ownership owes it to the fans to put a better product on the field.

Really Dave? You know the answer to this...they are bringing up Neuinwies and Coghill...two outfielders who didn't hit worth a crap at the beginning of the season. And they designated Ankiel for assignment. I'm just waiting for the phone to ring, hell, I can play outfield. :D

You do realize you can't smoke stogies in the dugout, right? :r

Guess I'm just trying to be optimistic. Can't get any worse than it already is.

Mets drop another one to the Cardinals last night, 9-2 (at one point it was 2-2). :bh :bh Why in the hell did Collins move Murphy to first base?? Turner can handle the position just fine. Murphy isn't going to win any gold gloves at second, but he has looked decent there this year. He looked lost at first last night.

As the slide gets deeper.

David Wright and Robinson Cano named Captians for the HR Derby.
HUGE Mets fan...but Wright has no business being in the HR Derby. While I can appreciate the event is in NY...I just don't agree with this.

Mets beat the Cardinals last night 5-1. Gee looked good again last night...that's three consecutive starts he's looked good. All since shaving that god awful beard off. :r :r

I would have to agree. Besides that, I think the HR Derby ruins a player for the rest of the season.

Mets lose to the Cardinals today...2-1. Harvey suffers his first loss and AGAIN pitches a gem and gets no run support. :bh :bh

What an ugly game!
Mets are lucky they pulled it out.
The 3 errors on the ball Soriano hit was one of the worst plays I've ever seen.

Missed the game, but saw "highlights" on the news last night. Nice win for the Good Guys!

Mets lose to the Braves 2-1. Gee looked great until he faced Freeman in the ninth and gave up a 2r HR.

Didn't watch the game, but saw the result. Figured it was the pen sucking it up again.
