Harvey strikes out a career high 13 as the Mets beat the Braves, 4-3, in the first game of the doubleheader. Finally picks up win #6.

Wheeler's up in game #2.

Wheeler wins his MLB debut by beating the Braves 6-1. Harvey and Wheeler...reason to have a little hope for the Mets. :D

Mets acquire Eric Young for Collin McHugh. I like this trade. McHugh did nothing for us. Young didn't exactly burn it up in Colorado, but he can play all three outfield positions and second base. Plus, he's got speed to burn...something we lack. He can't be any worse than the outfielders we have now.

To make room for their newest player, the Mets designated Collin Cowgill for assignment, essentially cutting ties with him despite his remaining Minor League options.

Wheeler wins his MLB debut by beating the Braves 6-1. Harvey and Wheeler...reason to have a little hope for the Mets. :D

If Niese and Gee can get things going, we're going to have a decent starting rotation.

Mets lose to the Braves 5-3 last night. Mets send Wheeler down to AAA, but keep Marcum on the roster, who is 0-9 with a 5.76 ERA. Can someone please explain this to me??

Dave128
06-20-2013, 09:37 AM
Easy explanation: Mets front office is filled with a bunch of nincumpoops.

Mets beat the Braves 4-3 tonight as Wright hits two HRs. Take the series 3 games to two. :wo :wo First series win since the Yankees sweep. :D

Nice night for Wright. He deserves a good night now and then. First place here we come!

My understanding is that it was just a "procedural" move, and he's not going to miss his next scheduled start... only interested because I picked him up in my NL only fantasy league. Otherwise, I couldn't care less! :r

Mets come back last night from a 3-0 deficit to beat the Phillies 4-3. :wo :wo

kelmac07

Mets score two in the top of the 9th to tie the Phillies only to blow it in the bottom of the 9th in an 8-7 loss.

kelmac07
06-23-2013, 03:33 PM
Harvey wins again as the Mets beat the Phillies today, 8-0. Wright has a day, going 4-5...with a single away from the cycle. :tu :tu

Dave128
06-24-2013, 08:47 AM
Wright made up for it with two doubles instead of getting a single!

kelmac07
06-26-2013, 05:07 AM
Bullpen blows another one as the White Sox beat us 5-4. Wheeler looked nowhere as sharp as he did in his debut.

Dave128
06-26-2013, 09:23 AM
Pretty disappointing outing for the rookie. Not nearly what I expected after his first game.

kelmac07
06-27-2013, 05:10 AM
Mets beat the White Sox, 3-0, last night. Marcum picks up his first win of the season... 1-9 now. :wo :wo

Mets bullpen blows another one of Harveys wins. Harvey looked great, 1 run, 10Ks in 7 innings...only to have the bullpen blow it as we lose to the Nats 6-4. :bh :bh

kelmac07
06-29-2013, 03:33 PM
Gee looked really good this afternoon as the Mets beat the Nats 5-1. Now if we could string a few wins together.

kelmac07
06-30-2013, 11:58 AM
Wheeler gets his first start at Citi Field and looked great in the first inning...the second inning, not so much. Now he's getting ROCKED!! :bh :bh

kelmac07
06-30-2013, 02:23 PM
And it's finally over...Mets get skull drugged by the Nats 13-2. :bh :bh

That was certainly not a pretty game to watch.

kelmac07
07-02-2013, 05:03 AM
Another come from behind victory by the Mets, beating the D-Backs 5-4 in 15 innings. Harvey used as a PH in this one?

Dave128
07-02-2013, 10:52 AM
It was 13 innings and I fell asleep in the middle of the 13th! I never saw the come from behind win. I woke up when the team was running on the field.

Mets beat the D-backs 9-1 last night and hand Corbin his first loss of the season. Two in a row. :wo :wo

Dave128
07-03-2013, 12:07 PM
Should have been 10-1. Replays clearly showed the catcher missing a tag, but the ump missed the call. It was during the 7-run inning.

kelmac07
07-04-2013, 07:29 AM
Mets lose to the D-Backs last night 5-3. Harvey did himself in this time.

kelmac07
07-04-2013, 05:00 PM
Mets fought the D-Backs hard before falling 5-4 in 15 innings. Hit HRs in the bottom of the 13th and 14th to even it up...but, AGAIN, the bullpen couldn't keep the oppositions offense at bay. :bh :bh

kelmac07
07-05-2013, 06:47 PM

Mets beat the Brewers yesterday 12-5. Wheeler looked alright in his third start of his young career...still struggling with his command. Nieuwenhuis and Davis both had big games. Between both of them, they went 7-9, 5 runs scored, with 7 RBIs. I'm still really liking the Eric Young pick-up. His speed at the top of the order has helped a bunch.

kelmac07
07-07-2013, 07:42 AM
Mets lose to the Brewers yesterday, 7-6. Marcum takes another loss...1-10. :bh :bh

Mets beat the Brewers today, 2-1. Hefner looked good.

kelmac07
07-09-2013, 05:30 AM
Mets beat the Giants, 4-3, in 16 innings. We sure have played a lot of extra inning games this year.

Dave128
07-09-2013, 08:28 AM
Extra inning against teams that we should be able to beat in regulation.

kelmac07
07-10-2013, 04:43 AM
Mets beat the Giants 10-6 last night behind Marlon Byrds grand slam!! I said before the season started that I really liked this pick-up. Now, will be remain with the Mets or will someone grab him in need of a right handed bat?

jonumberone
07-10-2013, 06:31 AM
Truth is, Sandy should trade him.
Granted he's been a great pick-up, and possibly Sandy's best pick-up since he's been here, but he's not in the Mets long term plans.
Might as well see if you can get a decent prospect for him while his value is high. :2

kelmac07

Mets close out the first half with a win over the Pirates this afternoon, 4-2...and avoid the sweep. Gee looked good again...evens his record to 7-7. That's like 7 quality starts in a row for him. :tu

Matt Harvey gets the nod to start the All Star Game. :tu :tu Kudos to Bochy for this. Even though we know it's a make up from last year when Dickey should have started the game and he started his own guy, Cain, because Posey didn't want to be embarrased.

Great All Star game last night. Harvey looked good (after he gave up the double and plunked Cano). Didn't realize he was gonna pitch two innings. Wright was 1-3. AL pitching really shut the NL down last night.

Dave128

Freudian slip??....

and now, for some comic relief....

Q: What is the difference between a Mets fan and a baby?
A: The baby will stop whining after awhile.

Q: What is the difference between the Mets bullpen and bowling icon Walter Ray Williams, Jr.?
A: Walter Ray Williams, Jr. knows how to throw a strike.

I'll be here all week......:r

Dave128

Gee pitched a really nice game. Couldn't have asked for anything better from him. Parnell blew this one. Looks like we need relievers and a closer.

In other news, if that last ball got past the center fielder, we would have won that game.

kelmac07
07-23-2013, 09:05 PM
Mets beat the Braves 4-1. Torres gives up a HR to the first batter of the game and shuts down the Braves the rest of the way. And the bullpen cooperates this evening. :tu

Dave128

If Dillon Gee could keep the ball down just a little bit and work the outside of the plate a bit more efficiently, he's gonna kick ass. Not that it really matters with the Mets, cause he'll get zero run support and pull a 1.79 ERA and a 7-14 W/L record. :D
I'm pulling for the kid, anyways. At 23 he's throwing impressively in well over 1/2 his starts. He's just a wiggle away from being a really good pitcher. He just needs to be diplomatic and throw some more ground balls.

kelmac07
08-03-2013, 07:23 AM
Gee pitched another gem...only to have the bullpen blow it again. I swear we have the worst bullpen in MLB. Young saves the day in the 11th with a walk off 2 run HR as the Mets beat the Royals 4-2 in a costly game. :tu :tu May have lost Wright for a bit with his hamstring. :td :td

08-03-2013, 09:14 AM
Yup. Another great effort from Gee, all for naught.
I hope the poor kid can get a gig with a ball club that can back him up. The Mets do tend to deal emerging stars to get minimum return so they can pay hearty salaries to underperforming has-beens, so he may just get outta town soon. ;)

That was Minaya's MO...keeping fingers crossed that Alderson doesn't do it. We have some great young pitching and could possibly compete in the near future. Alderson claims he won't make a deal, just to make one. He could have dealt Byrd away before the deadline and didn't do it. Time will tell. We just need a few more pieces and an entire outfield and we should be competitive.

• Jordany Valdespin, New York Mets outfielder, (50 games, no appeal).
• Cesar Puello, New York Mets outfield prospect.

So far

kelmac07
08-05-2013, 12:04 PM
The other players expected to be suspended, each for 50 games are:

Rangers outfielder Nelson Cruz
Tigers shortstop Jhonny Peralta
Padres shortstop Everth Cabrera
Yankees catcher Francisco Cervelli
Mariners catcher Jesus Montero (used to be a Yankee)
Mets Minor League outfielder Cesar Puello
Yankees Minor League outfielder Fernando Martinez
and free-agent relievers Fautino De Los Santos and Jordan Norberto.

Additional reports surfaced on Monday indicating that
Phillies lefty Antonio Bastardo
Mets infielder Jordany Valdespin
Astros reliever Sergio Escalona will also be suspended.

Seems my Mets had company...a couple of Yankees and your starting shortstop Adam.

Valdespin hasn't contributed anything to the big ball club in over 6 weeks...so this hurts us how? :r :r

What happened to reports of Melky Cabrera and Bartolo Colon??? Guess MLB blew the whistle too early.

Mets to call up highly touted prospect Flores. With Wright on the DL and his path blocked by Wright...what the hell. It's not like the move will hurt us.

The Mets will call up Flores prior to Tuesday's game against the Rockies, the team announced late Monday night, rewarding an infielder who hit .321 with 15 home runs in 107 games at Triple-A Las Vegas.

My question is why did they wait three days into Wright being on the DL to call him up?? :bh :bh

Mac, seriously?
They're a sub .500 ballclub, playing the HOTTEST team in baseball, on the road, with their best player on the disabled list.
They're lucky the Dodgers didn't find a way to beat them 4 times in 3 games!
You should be thrilled they played them as close as they did.

Dom, that's my whole point. Being a sub .500 club with a shoddy outfield and a non existant bullpen...if we had even an average one of both, we'd be contending for a wildcard position. Alderson KNEW the bullpen was f*cked and did nothing to correct it (short term or long term).

I'm with Mac. These gaems are so very frustrating to watch. I'm getting tires of watching them lose in the late innings. There is no reason that we should lose a lead so late in every game. We miss so many opportunities because these guys keep watching perfect pitches whiz by them without even pretending to swing. I can't count how many times we have bases loaded and no outs yet fail to score a run.

With several of their starting pitchers undergoing season-ending surgeries or brushing up against innings limits, the Mets on Thursday made a low-risk move to deepen their staff, signing former Red Sox starter Daisuke Matsuzaka. Another over the hill veteran the Mets bring in. :bh :bh

That's a sad, sad story about Matt Harvey. Hopefully he comes through Tommy John's real well.
I was looking at his stats last night. 26 starts. An ERA under 2.30. A whip around .9, which hasn't happened to a pitcher under the age of 24 for eons, and there's only about 1/2 dozen guys that have EVER put a number up like that in the live ball era. Big names.
And his W/L is 9/5.
I would go so far as to venture a guess that these numbers indicate that the Mets batting is not all that good. ;)

Earlier there were reports of a NL team claiming Marlon Byrd.
Now there are reports that Byrd and Buck have been traded to the Pirates.

The Pittsburgh Pirates acquired outfielder Marlon Byrd and catcher John Buck in a trade Tuesday with the New York Mets, a source told ESPNNewYork.com's Adam Rubin.

The Mets received infield prospect Dilson Herrera and a player to be named, a source confirmed to Rubin.

Full story here (http://espn.go.com/new-york/mlb/story/_/id/9605439/pittsburgh-pirates-acquire-marlon-byrd-john-buck-new-york-mets-source-says)

And this helps the Mets how? Doesn't address any pitching woes (rotation or bullpen) and gives away our most productive bat. This helps the Pirates as they've been looking for a run producing right fielder. Alderson was asleep at the wheel on this one. Another BONEHEAD MOVE made my Mets executives. :bh :bh :bh

The player to be named later better be pitching help...and a good one!!!

I know Byrd and Buck weren't long term Mets...but COME ON MAN...get something in return for them.

No wonder we suck!!!

Great move by the Pirates, as they make a serious push towards the playoffs. I'm rooting for them. :D

jonumberone
08-27-2013, 01:17 PM
Mac, News flash, this season is over!

This move gives you a middle infield prospect.
Middle infield is another spot your team is notoriously thin.
Let's face it, Tejada isn't the player the Mets hoped he'd be, and if Murphy can't hit .320 he's useless too.
You're losing Byrd for 30 games, as somebody was likely to offer him mor than the Mets this offseason.

kelmac07
08-27-2013, 01:26 PM
I got it Dom. Ever heard of pride?? Oh, I forgot, you're a Yankees fan. Mets need to, at least, play for some pride down the stretch. 2006 seems so damn long ago.

Alderson has made absolutely ZERO MOVES all year to help improve our extremely thin pitching staff (and horrendous bullpen) and with Harvey possibly gone next year (pending surgery)...then what? Great...another middle infielder prospect. I look forward to reading about Herrera's partial UCL tear in 2016.

Mets two biggest areas that need IMMEDIATE help...Pitching & Outfield...guess they are just gonna take care of themselves. :bh :bh :bh

Another year...and I believe this one's gonna a lot more painful than last year. Minor league outfield (at best) and a completely depleted bullpen...hoping for anything but a last place finish in the NL East. :D

I said this at the beginning of the year. Doing the math, we can finish no worse than 4th place. Hey, at least we weren't last. But on the flip side, the bullpen gave away at least 15 games. Yankees give the Astros their 109th loss of the year last night, and moved Houston's 3-year total to 322 losses. This is good enough to insure the 'Stros of fifth-place in big league history over 3 seasons, and with 2 games left they have a chance to surpass or tie the 4th-place 1940-42 Philly Phillies (323 Ls) and the 3-rd place 1915-1917 Philly Athletics (324 Ls).

But don't worry. The top two spots are still secure, with the 1962-64 Mets top-bottom mark of 340 losses, and the 1963-65 Mets 332 Ls.

After all the BS and contemplating....looks like Harvey is gonna have Tommy John surgery. So, with him out for the 2014 season...need someone to pitch that's worth a sh*t. Get to work Alderson!!

And all this talk of re-signing Johan for one year...COME ON MAN!!! The man pitched like 4 innings the past two years and you paid him an a$$load of cash. WAKE UP!!!

I hope some useful changes are made during the off season. We sure could use a nifty pitching staff.

Ruben Tejada's agents are considering filing a grievance over the New York Mets' timing of the shortstop's September call-up, which delayed his free-agency eligibility from after the 2016 season until after the 2017 season, Yahoo! Sports has reported.

Really? He wants to become a free agent that bad? He is lazy and doesn't put in the extra work...he hit like .202 this year. His glove was supposed to be his calling card and that didn't work out too well either. Not sure many teams out there want a light hitting, lazy shortstop. I say release his sorry a$$...but who else do we have to play SS?

A-Rod will most likely be available........

(note: if that ever happened, I'd have to find a new team to root for)

Hawkins signs a deal with the Rockies...sad to see him go. Even though he's old as dirt, he proved to be our best option out of the pen last year.

Fans lined up as early as 5:30 a.m. for the Mets' open auditions to sing the national anthem on Opening Day 2014.

Hey...gotta have something to look forward to on opening day. :r :r :r

Chris Young?? Really?? He had a terrible few years in Oakland. Another past his prime veteran. At least we didn't sign him to a multi year deal.

I really thought we were gonna go after Jhonny Peralta. Card just signed him to a 4 year, $ 52 million deal. I didn't think he'd get that much after the steroid thing. Guess we're gonna go after Drew. Just what we need...another "all glove-no bat" shortstop. But hey...anything's better than Tejadas lazy a$$.

Sounds like your Mets are using my Twins' strategy of signing arms that are were good 5 years ago, coming off injury or looking to rebound. I don't think the Twins will sign a pitcher unless he is coming off Tommy John. Heard rumors around here about us going after Santana for some reason!

Easy, don't get too excited. We all know Mets have a habbit of killing real good players.

Mets agreed to terms on a two-year, $20 million pact with right-hander Bartolo Colon. Not sure about this one...two more years for this past his prime pitcher? Can he stay healthy? Why give him two years? We did need help in the pitching staff...not sure this is the answer.

My gut reaction...another bonehead move by my Mets. :bh :bh (hoping he proves this Mets fan completely wrong)

Yeah, I loved it when the Yankees signed him too. I then learned to like it, then accept it, then think "Ehhhh" when he left. :r

Still, he's an improvement for the Mets outfield . . . if that says much. :D

Mets sign Taylor Teagarden to a minor league contract...for what? He hit .167, 2 HRs and had 5 RBIs last year. Spent almost a month and a half on the DL...that must be the reason. :bh :bh :bh Until we get rid of this Little League management, we are not going to win.
