I'm gonna go out on a limb here...

I predict the 2001 Mets will go 82-80 and finish 3rd in the NL East.

Just a hunch.....

Have a bad feeling about this year, I actually think it's the first year that I'm not being optimistic. Pitching isn't going to be up to par with anybody. Sad thing is they're saying they have about $50 to $60 million coming off the books in 2012 and that they probably wouldn't invest it in new players unless it's one year commitments. Which to say never happens unless the players coming off an injury, I guess I'll look forward to 2013.

Maybe with the new baseball people in the front office they can get themselves back on track and build a team that fits the field they play in. They have a pitchers park and need a team that is based on pitching and defense.

Well, I'm glad to see at least ONE Met fan thinks the same way I do about the possibility of Donald Trump buying into the franchise. He's said he's only interested in getting a majority share, which would mean he'd be to the Metropolitans the same type of owner George Steinbrenner was for the Yankees.

He will irritate the players, the manager, the fans, the other team owners, and the commissioner . . . and build a winning team.

For years I have seen posts on the Mets sight and other places begging for the Wilpons to sell the team. I never really got caught up in that till now. When your home base is New York, you have a brand new stadium that you sold the naming rights to, and your own cable network, but still nickel and dime to get players and refuse to let players go who have been let downs for years it's time to go. I'm not saying they don't spend alot because I believe they are in the top 5 or so but you have to be able to cut your losses and move on. The other side of town would have gotten rid of those players and made
Improvements to make themselves better. Sorry for the rant.

And the saga continues...."As The Wilpons Turn"...

PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. -- Hounded by a multimillion dollar lawsuit filed by the trustee trying to recover money for victims of the Bernard Madoff Ponzi scheme, the New York Mets acknowledged Friday they received a loan in November to help cover expenses.

"We said in October that we expected to have a short-term liquidity issue," the team said in a statement. "To address this, we did receive a loan from Major League Baseball in November. Beyond that, we will not discuss the matter any further."

The New York Times and Daily News said the loan amount was $25 million.

The trustee, Irving H. Picard, sued Mets owner Fred Wilpon, brother-in-law and team President Saul Katz and various family members and entities related to Sterling Equities, seeking at least $300 million.

Picard claimed the Mets profited with their Madoff investments and ignored warnings that his high returns might be false. Losses in the Ponzi scheme are estimated at around $20 billion.

The Wilpons have said they are victims in the scheme.

The Mets announced last month they were looking to sell a non-controlling interest in the team of 20 to 25 percent to raise several hundred million dollars. Wilpon insisted his family would remain in control of the team.

Less than two weeks ago, Moody's Investors Service lowered its outlook on the company that operates the ballpark used by the New York Mets because of the litigation. The ratings firm cut the outlook on Queens Ballpark Co. LLC to "Negative," but maintained its "Ba1" rating on the company's bonds.

He's being paid a ton of money and this is his contract year. He needs to say and do whatever it takes for the possibility of a return to the team next year. Maybe, with his age, he'll only come back as a defensive bench player. I like him and I'd be willing to accept that, but that will only happen if he stays healthy this year and shows what he was hired to do with his bat.

From what I read Dave the Mets.......I mean Wilpons (sorry Mac :) ) are not broke.
The problem they have is that most of their money is not liquid and is tied up in Real Estate.
If they need cash, they have to sell a building, and that takes time.
It is possible that creditors will simply seize their real estate holdings.

The Mets are on the hook for $77.5 million to Santana, and he may never win a game for them again. Think about that for a second. That makes lefty specialist Oliver Perez look like a bargain at $36 million down the drain.
This gut really ticked me off this morning. To compare Santana to Perez is an absolute joke. His whole article in the Post pretty much says that Santana's career is done. I realize he has had shoulder surgery and will prob be out for whole year, but how can you say he's done when he hasn't even started rehabbing yet. He brings up Wang's and Prior's name of people who haven't recovered from surgery, why not bring up the ones who have. Sorry, just ranting

kelmac07

Oliver Perez pitches 2/3 of an inning...doesn't give up any runs and earns the win. :tu All that for $ 36 million?? :td

Hardly the best player on the '09 team...David Wright held those honors. He had some good years and I believe he WAS a good ballplayer. He has lost his range, his wheels aren't what they used to be, nor is his bat, and I believe NY fans got in his head. He may perform better in a smaller market (not sure Philly is that market).

Yes, his power #s weren't great...but he hit .307, had 27SBs, .950 fielding pct (not so great) and established himself as the Mets leader. He had a SOLID year. Better numbers than Castillo. True he batted clean-up...in a very soft hitting lineup. Most RBIs, next closest was Daniel Murphy with 63 and Beltran with 48. Come on man!!

Opening Day for us today!!!

Dear Mets Fans:

With our 2011 opener tonight in Florida, I want to make this pledge to Mets fans — our team will play the game the right way.

We will always hustle on the bases, run balls down in the outfield and never take anything for granted, no matter the score of the game.

We had a great Spring Training. From day one my message has been look ahead, not backward, and not to worry about what the people outside the clubhouse are saying. If we pitch and play defense like I know we can, we will surprise a lot of people, a lot of people.

I stack our lineup against anyone else's in the league. Getting Carlos Beltran back and hitting cleanup is really big. The way Carlos handled his move to right field was one of the classiest things I have ever seen. Angel Pagan is coming off a great season. While we had a little setback this week with Jason Bay — who was swinging the bat well — going on the Disabled List, he shouldn't be out too long. We believe with the three of them on the field, we have one of the top outfields in baseball.

Our infield is anchored by the two All-Stars on the left side: David Wright at third and Jose Reyes at short. I think David will add on to his numbers from last year and Jose is ready to have a tremendous season. He is one of the most dynamic players in the game. Ike Davis will continue to develop at first base and Jose Thole is one of the fine young catchers in the game. Brad Emaus, a Rule Five pick, got better and better as the spring went on and won the second base job.

On the mound, sure we are going to miss Johan Santana until he comes back, hopefully in mid-year. But this spring, I think we established a solid rotation with Mike Pelfrey, followed by R.A. Dickey and Jonathon Niese. Chris Young and Chris Capuano proved that they are healthy and they really strengthen us on the back end.

We remade our bullpen and we think we have quality arms who throw strikes to get to closer Francisco Rodriguez. K-Rod has just had a fantastic spring and I never have seen him throwing better. People like Bobby Parnell, D.J. Carrasco, Taylor Buchholz, Blaine Boyer, Tim Byrdak and Pedro Beato, another Rule V selection who is from Queens, will give us a solid pen.

I believe we have fortified our bench with the additions of Scott Hairston, Willie Harris, Ronny Paulino (who will begin the year on the Disabled List), and Chin-lung Hu along with Daniel Murphy.

It's been 12 years since I have started a season as a major league manager. I can't tell you how proud I am to be leading the New York Mets and am very excited about the season ahead.

Thanks for your support and see you at Citi Field.

Sincerely,

http://i672.photobucket.com/albums/vv82/kelmac07_photo/collins_email_sig_150x781.jpg

And the game of "put another quarter in the merry-go-round" starts very early this year...at least it's not the DL (yet).

After another disappointing outing by a taxed bullpen, the Mets will add two relievers to their roster before Monday's game against the Rockies.
Jason Isringhausen, who was drafted by the Mets in 1991 and made his Major League debut with the club in 1995, will join Ryota Igarashi in making the trip to Queens. To clear room on their roster, the Mets designated Blaine Boyer for assignment and optioned Lucas Duda to Triple-A Buffalo. Boyer took the loss in relief to the Nationals on Sunday after allowing four runs in two innings.

Trying very hard not to laugh. :r :r :r (couldn't help myself)

And yet another pitcher roster move...Pat Misch designated for assignment. There is also scuttle of the Mets trading Pelfrey...whom has yet to pan out into the top pitcher they projected him to be.

The ENTIRE pitching staff needs to be revamped!!!! The sad thing is that everyone knew this coming into this season. But with these crazy-a$$ salaries that Beltran, Castillo (now gone), and Perez (also gone) have...it's killing us. Can't blame Sandy Alderson for this mess...thanks Minaya!!

Your right on Mac, I remember when they signed Perez to that ridiculous salary Derek Lowe was a FA too, but they didn't want to spend an extra 3 mil per year. How'd that pan out .......
