I checked Reselleratings on schnoop, they have a 6/10 or thereabouts. I did it cause I never heard of them before.
I figure a 6/10 is probably pretty good considering the only people that are going to take time to post a review are the ones who are really pissed.
For 16 bucks I'll give them a shot. If it works out, I'll be totally stoked. :tu

Are these jet or soft flame?

Neither it would seem. Ronson defines the jets and soft flames differently - follow the link at the end of this post to the archive site and click on the jetlite and the comet lighters - note the visual depiction of the flames.

Windproof low profile blue-flame. If these are what I think they are, they are more of a cigarette lighter than a cigar lighter. If they are anything like the Colibri with similar style flame that I used to own a long time ago, they can light a cigarette in hurricane but really are kind of a pain for cigars and touchups are exceptionally difficult.

Again, there are a couple "IF"s in there - I could be completely wrong as I'm not personally familiar with this lighter, but based on the description and picture, that's what it sounds like anyway. Or it might work better for cigars than the Colibri I used to own.

It's funny; I was just reading everyone's reviews on the Jetlites, when i saw this thread. I jumped on it too. Who knows what we'll get?

Looking at the description on Shnoop, it says [Ronson Euro Lite] in the little description. I wonder if these are not made for the USDM?

Advertisements often say lots of things that are somewhat inaccurate or open to personal interpretation just to sell something, look at Arganese cigar descriptions in the ads, for example, they include words such as "delicious" and "tasty". :=:

Ok, seriously now...

I agree, it's confusing. I haven't used this lighter myself, but the manufacturer doesn't even call it a torch or jet nor to they picture it as one. Take a look:

JETLITE (http://web.archive.org/web/20051225123153/www.ronsoncorp.com/jetlite.cfm) - note the drawing of the jet flame and describing it as a torch

COMET (http://web.archive.org/web/20051225110050/www.ronsoncorp.com/comet.cfm) - a soft flame - again, accurate flame picture

AMEROLITE (http://web.archive.org/web/20051225124145/www.ronsoncorp.com/amerolite.cfm) - note the pair of short/small, stubby split flames and lack of manufacturer description as a torch. Yeah, technically it might be a torch due to the type of flame, but if the picture is accurate, I don't think it's the type of torch we prefer and are used to using around here.

http://web.archive.org/web/20060515091155/www.ronsoncorp.com/images/main_jetlite3.jpghttp://web.archive.org/web/20060515091008/www.ronsoncorp.com/images/main_comet3.jpghttp://web.archive.org/web/20060621210734/ronsoncorp.com/images/main_amerolite3.jpg

I was contemplating about ordering myself, but I found the lack of mention of the product on the manufacturers website odd and that it was being closed out by an internet clearing house etailer kind of curious along with Albert's question was enough to make me go spend the 5 minutes to go find the product in the archives.

They might very well be some sort of torch, I dunno.

For basically the same money, I can just order the lighters from DealExtreme and I know exactly what I'll be getting.

A CF post on Oct 23, 2004 titled Ronson Amero Lite says:

"Found 6 of these for a buck a piece. Great torch lighter for the money. Refillable with flame adjustment. Kinda like a zippo, but a butane blue flame torch. Factory direct for $5.50 on the Ronson website."

A different forum post on June 25, 2009 says:

"The local B&M just started carrying the Ronson "Amero Lite." It looks to be a fancier version of the jet lite. at six bucks it's more expensive, but I almost never go to Walmart. I couldn't help but pick one up."

I figure, for the money, I can't lose. They're gonna be really good all-purpose throw in the junk drawer lighters at the bare minimum. I can give them away whenever anyone who stops by needs a lighter, or whatever.

Well, poop. All the kids in the neighborhood will be so upset that without my Arganese Presidente Maduro, I won't be able to have handfuls of the rotting outer flesh from fresh walnuts to drop in their trick or treat bags. I might actually have to go buy candy or something for next year. :sad

Free shipping. I did notice how there was a caveat that some of them might have dings from original shipping. I'm guessing a shipment got banged up pretty good and they couldn't sell them at retail, so they're getting rid of them this way. I frankly don't care if they have dings, as long as they work for our troops.

Twelve out of twelve Worked :tu

I would call them more of a windproof lighter than torch at the moment, I will spend sometime tomorrow adjusting them to see if I can get a flame from them.

The element glows bright orange, not much flame.
Definitely different than the jetlite.

If these are like the ones they have at wally world you an take out the little screw on the bottom and remove the case, take the little c clip around the adj. screw off....this will let you crank it up to flame thrower level. :D

Got mine today....half-assed packing job but I guess that doesn't matter with lighters.

They all appear to work, although most will need adjustment to make them true "torches".

Still not a bad deal at all for $16. :2

Agree.

Just got mine a few minutes ago.
The packing cracked me up.
They were just thrown loose in the box so therefore, I kind of now understand what others were referring to as "scratches".:r

They all work fine and well worth the price of poker.

Mine also had that removed sticker glue residue.
Nothing adhesive remover can't take care of.

Depending on the nozzle design, it might or might not ever be possible to get a jet flame out of these - you could just end up with a little bit more height on the blue kernel low flame, assuming it doesn't blow itself out on ignition.

Did you do anything special to get the flames that high? Mine don't seem to flame as high as that... however, I don't think it'll be much of an issue lighting a smoke using it... just might take a few more seconds.

It is.
It is on there to hold the clip in place that prevents you from opening the throttle up a bit more.
At some point, if you throttle it up too much, you will defeat what you are trying to do as the unit will no longer work.
Have no fear. I have done this to many lighters, including Colibri.
You have got to see this done on a triple flame. Scorches your eyebrow.

Sent Shnoop 2 messages asking about tracking numbers, perhaps a shipping notification. Silly me, all the Shnoops wanted for Xmas was to get rid of 12 more lighters.
The dirty dozen arrived late this afternoon via the hybrid of UPS to our town's ridiculously small post office, then US Postal Service beater truck to our house in the dank dark woods above Henderson Bay.
Four different styles. They cleaned up nicely and glory of glories, they all work. The chrome ones are my faves.
Any cigar pals wanting one should send a PM. You may get a bit of swag, too.

Got mine yesterday also in AZ tested them out most work and most have some sticky residue on them. I have to do more testing some have large flames and others are barely there.

Anyone know how to fix them if once you let go the flame still burns strong? Or worse the gas keeps running? If there's no way these are prob destined for the trash.

If these lighters turn out to be decent torches
and not low intensity flames, I'd like to buy 2-3

FYI, if you ordered from this deal please watch your credit cards. Everyone I know over on the other forums that ordered this deal has had fradulant charges appear.

I Just got a call from Amex Fraud. Nailed for $3,000 charge to Luftansa and a 40.00 charge to Air asia.

Thankfully Amex is very good at detecting this stuff and stopped them in their tracks.

I have no doubt that the use of Schnoops was the culprit either through a direct fraud by the website or and indirect hacking into their database.

I'm sure I'm not the first person to do this, but I emailed Shnoop asking who is responsible and for any record of hacks/intrusions, and if they don't respond to me by Tuesday morning, I will make sure the police know they are not cooperating.

I used Poopal so I am safe so far. However, I started the thread about this deal on another forum which ultimately led to the thread here so I feel a little guilty people are getting screwed over!

If you have had fraudulent charges, can you please add your name to the list and include the dollar amount? I would like to work with someone who has had these charges to file a criminal complaint. If someone has already contacted the police, can you let me know?

Wow, here is Shnoop's response:

Thank you for your recent purchase. Presently, shnoop.com uses "Poopal" as the credit card processor, even for direct credit card orders. As such, all transactions are processed on "Poopal's" secure payment platform, which employs a sophisticated and proprietary algorithm to detect fraudulent transactions. In addition to this, we also subscribe to McAfee Secure, which performs a daily audit on our sites to ensure that all data sent between our sites and the credit card processor is secure, as well as PCI Compliance. Therefore, we do not believe that the security of your credit card was compromised on our site. If you have fraudulent transactions on your credit card, we encourage you to contact your card issuing bank to dispute the fraudulent transactions and request that they investigate the cause of it. Please don't hesitate to email us back if you have any further questions.

The Shnoop Team

I understand that and I'm sure the credit card co's do all they can to look into fraudulent charges. But there are different credit card companies being used by BOTLs that are getting screwed and if only 1 or 2 people are showing fraud charges for a certain card company, they are probably less likely to fully pursue a possible connection to a vendor than if they realized many more people were getting scammed by using the same vendor. I'm hoping some sort of law enforcement would like to see a complete list of customers whose credit cards are being compromised as this cannot be a coincidence and the trail has to lead to Shnoop.

I'm sure I couldn't help any more than the card co's doing their own investigation, but I have been scammed before and it just pisses me off. When I got scammed, I was told by the FBI and a County Computer Crimes division that they don't have time to go after small fish (even when I gave them a ton of evidence), so I think by creating a comprehensive list, someone would listen. Yeah that's a pipe dream, but still... :)

But if no one here cares after their card co's reverse the charges, then I guess I shouldn't care either... it still just pisses me off! LOL

2nd email from Shnoop:

Thank you for following up on this with us. Once again, we do regret and apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused you. At this time, we have referred this matter to our contact within Poopal, and requested that they review this matter thoroughly, to determine if the fraud was somehow inadvertently linked to shnoop.com. We can assure you that we will do our best to ensure that this is resolved in satisfactory manner to the best of our abilities.

Did you lose money? "Everyone", that's a lot of people. I see only Amex people who have encountered these charges. What about the "Everyone" who use PP, Visa or MC? What proof do you have that the account number was not grabbed in the transaction between the third party biller and Amex?
Seems like an Amex issue and not the vendor? From every one who has posted I see 100% satisfaction in the product provided.

I sure as heck can't be quoted anywhere here on this thread making him out to be a villain.
While they may in fact be, I just think there is clearly insufficient evidence to conclude the vendor is at fault here and make that assertion.
While EVERYONE at that other site is purported to have been defrauded, EVERYONE on this thread hasn't. In fact, almost all have not.
Personally, I appreciate the heads up. However, the sky isn't falling here. Credit card fraud is a daily, every minute thing.
I have yet to be charged anything other than $15 and just checked again to make sure.

Just checked again for the third or fourth time since this began, and nothing out of the ordinary on Discover.

I will say this for the 2 cards I use regularly. Discover has been compromised a couple years ago, but their fraud department contacted me asking if I had ordered a laptop. After telling them I hadn't, the card was deactivated and a new one was in the mail to me in a couple days.

The other I use for my "import" purposes contacts me just about every time I order with suspicious activity detected. I get a little ticked off having to tell them on a monthly basis that yes, that's my order. Let it go. :D

There's really no way anyone could have known that CC #s going through this vendor on that day were going to get hit at some point along the way or if it was even in the vendors transmissions/control. Could have happened exterior to the vendor.

Probably every internet transaction involving a CC # runs the risk of being compromised in one fashion or the other.

Heck, you can get compromised going out to dinner and paying with a cc. Unscrupulous restaurant employee copies down your CC # and the CCID on the back while they have your card and you are at the table waiting for them to return with the charge sheets to sign.
