I recently saw a barberpole cigar with a green stripe and I had no idea what it was, so I started my hunt. I found out it was a candela wrapper, and then found out that it was a really popular wrapper in the 50's and 60's, which finally explains why some of the fake gangster cigars at the halloween store were a mint green shade. Needless to say, now I'm very curious

So I've found that the Illusione Holy Lance Candela was really good, but I can't find any (plus my cigar budget is blown until december :r) so when I recover from this trip, what are some good, or decent, candela wrapped cigars?

I have only smoked a couple and wasn't a fan. My understanding is that most are very mild and that's why I don't care for them. I like strong cigars. I am no expert on the subject by no means though.

I have never tried one. Next time I am in a store I will try to hunt one down. I have always wondered what they were like.

I really don't have any clue about them, so if I get a chance to get one I'm taking it, I've just never even seen one, so its one of those things I gotta try, like it or not :tu

I had a camacho, and it wasn't half bad, just mild.

Yeah, that's one thing, I don't wanna spend a whole lot on something that's like the Illusione Epernay I had recently (buttery burning paper :td) idk if that's just because my palate isn't tuned for mild cigars or I got a dud, but I prefer medium-bold cigars most of the time.

AF 8-5-8s come in a candela wrapper and they won't break your wallet

I had a Graycliff candella and wasn't a fan. It was long time ago, but I think it was somewhat bitter.

I was sent a sample of Candelas. The best was the A.F. Candela, BUT that is no saying too much. They mostly tasted like grass. If you had the Illusione hl Candela, then you probably had the best Candela out there IMHO.

Actually, the Illusione Holy Lance Candela is quite good...surprisingly good, honestly...

I would buy a box, if I could find one...Grassy, sure, but with a great spice and sweetness as well...

Anything green like that instantly brings to mind the AyC Grenadier. How i LOATHE the smell of those things....... used to work in a stop and go type place and there was a guy who always smoked em, always came in drunk, and on a few occasions puked on the floor.. I don't do green cigars, no matter if the angels made em or not.

Is it wrong to order some of these for St. Patty's day, or is it the n00b thing to do? I'll be ordering at least a fiver of green cigars. hopefully they don't suck.

That's a fun idea! I think a green cigar should go with your green beer!

Personally? I love the Iguana Candela's.

They are a inexpensive stick with a lot of flavor.

Probably one of the only things I buy from Thompson.

I have smoked 50's and 60's Habanos with Candela wrappers and thought they were fine. I think that style wrapper really works well like CT Shade just makes for a beautifully wrapped cigar.

I wish Habanos would launch a run of Churchill size cigars in Candela wrapper.

There's a constant debate on how much the wrapper plays to the overall flavor of the cigar. At a minimum, the wrapper is on the lips and has small percent of total burning mass.

Whether the grassiness one tastes in some NC Candela wrapped cigars is from the wrapper I think is inconclusive. I would like to see some blindfolded tastings to see. The eyes can trick the mind into certain conclusions. Just like using totally black wine glasses and tasting a wine can give a much different impression than a clear glass….

Don Tomas makes a half way decent candela. The best I've had was the HL.

I remember that my grandfather smoked them a lot when I was a kid, I think there were Antonio y Cleopatra or A.C. Grenadier, something along those lines.

Anyone try the Camacho Candelas?

The Fuente's are better imho and I'm actually a big Camacho fan.
