I'm calling this one.... "Secret Agent Man" .... (there's a reason for that)....
Goncalo Alves & Walnut
18" x 13" x 10"
I didn't measure for actual capacity.... but, using those dims, it would have been a 330 count humidor.... but, my client wanted a "secret compartment" on the bottom.... something to keep currency, passports, and anything else you can think of to put in there....

My wife order a Humi from him for me.
Take a look at these hand made humis and what work and love goes into this. Also look at you have a custome humi that you can help design. The $ amount does not look so high nor does the question come in. Also look at it as a great piece of furniture that is passed down the family.
I can wait to see my finished product and post pictures.
Always ask so you know what you need to do to get what you want.

So my wife told me I am getting a Humidor from Ed. I had to send the money in, but I have no idea what the humidor will look like or what will be done for me.
I can not wait to get the shipment and open my custom humidor from WaxingMoon. I now have my first heirloom to pass down to my kids.
No matter what you get I'm sure it will look incredible. Ed does fantastic work

I never liked the way dividers fit in humidors.... So, I never put one in mine... I had to do a humi with a couple of dividers today and thought to myself.... "self, there has got to be a better way"....
So... I was looking at the lattice crumb catcher and came up with a "Hey, this will work" moment.....
Crumb catcher is removable.... the slots on the side are tacked on.... and the dividers are easily adjustable within every slot - 1/4" apart.....
What do ya'all think?

Ed,
I'm very interested in this idea. Are those lattice sections taking the place of a rail for a lower tray to sit on or are they in addition to the rail? I really like the idea of having an easy way to adjust the dividers and have them be solidly in place but I'm wondering how much storage space you lose. I'd guess that the crumb catcher lattice work is around .5 inches so it would be a total loss of around 1" of storage front to back in the bottom. Maybe I'm looking at it wrong... I suppose for the ease of use I'd be willing to give up a half-inch of storage or so. Could that lattice work be made so that it replaces the rail that the lower tray sits on and thus doesn't really take up any more storage space?

Couple of different things going on today.... I have two humidors drying in the finishing phase.... and started milling some more... and worked on my "prototype" (which is coming along nicely).....
But.... had a couple other things on the back burner...
Started this door for an Edgestar 28.... a BOTL had damage to his when he received it from wherever he bought it.... and I told him... "let's build a new door"... and the idea went from there... Still have to glue it up... but, the seal fits great and the glass is tight.... This one is cherry.
http://i302.photobucket.com/albums/nn88/evsallee/EdgeDiir.jpg
Had another idea... so I threw this together this morning out of Mahogany... Gonna get some brass handles & stuff... not sure what I'll do with it... but, the little lady sort of likes it... it may or may not become a humidor... but... it's a good idea for one...
http://i302.photobucket.com/albums/nn88/evsallee/IMG_20110315_141420.jpg
And then.... finished out this Vino Temp 28 that a BOTL drop shipped to me... I think this is going to be my preferred way to do these... as there are a lot of weird nuances involved with all the different wine coolers...

A while back I posted pics of a computer drawing of a prototype that I planned to build... it was inspired by the Monte Cristo 75th Anniversary humidor....
I've been dabbling with it for about 6 months now.... I even had to start over once because what I thought would work.... didn't.... I've been waiting for an order of wood to come in.... and made some pretty good progress....
Well.... she's all dry fit now and ready to assemble... I have all the spanish cedar cut and dimensioned for a quick fit.... The lid in the picture needs some attention, but - that will be the easy part....
I have two of these going at the moment.... One is going to Canada to a member here, the other is open at the moment. The third picture has a coffee pot for scale.... this thing is huge! 27" x 13" x 19"..... She should be coming off the bench soon...

Not sure.... the plan is to have 10 drawers - 11" x 8-3/4" x 2-1/2" interior dimensions.... so, that's 240.625 cubic inches of usable space, per drawer... and a Toro (6x50) cigar is 2.876 cubic inches.... so, with that being said... Each drawer should hold 84 Toros.... so, 840... That is if you wanted 10 drawers.... maybe you'd only want one side with drawers and the other side open for box storage.... It's wide open!
Plus...the drawer on the front can hold a cutter, lighter, bottle of scotch.... or whatever you might want.... And then, directly behind that is the humidification with an access door, just like the one on the front, for the humidification....

well, I figured it was time to get on the train before Ed gets too famous for his own good.
I thought HARD about getting the LSU edition, Purpleheart with a gold-er yellow wood for the
gold in Purple and Gold, but I thought maybe you don't tell an artist how to create his art. I told
Ed to make me a work of art, then on the phone basically told him how to do it, lol. I suck. I do
have to say though, that I think this is the time to strike on a Ed-idor. The pictures keep getting
better and better, and pretty soon he won't be able to answer the phone anymore. I want to get mine
done before he gets overwhelmed, if that's possible. And it always is. I have asked for a few things that
have less to do with Ed's art, and that is to have honduran mahogany as my preservative lining as
opposed to Spanish Cedar. I just like it better. I also could not stand it if there was no lacewood on there.
That stuff is just un-describable. And like I said, other than that, I said 'surprise me', lol. I had asked to
have him just make his art, and then he mentioned a wood I didn't like as much, and it all fell comically down,
my grand plan, haha. I say get em while you can, babys.

This post is a little off topic, but not really....
My good friend, Jerry Hewett, the fellow who does all of my laser engraving.... well, his wife passed away on Thursday and he asked me to make a cremation urn for two for her and him.. hopefully he won't be joining her soon....
This needed to be done and in his hands before this coming Thursday so it can be present for the memorial service.... Plus, Jerry plans on laser engraving a photograph image of his wife and himself on the lid.....
I burned a bit of midnight oil in order to get this done for my friend... but, I'm pleased at how it turned out....
It is made from some very old Cherry.... I'm told that it is about 100 years old, Cocobolo & Movungui on the lid.... Lined with Mahogony.....

Quilted Maple seems to be the flavor of the day....

Made some headway on this prototype today... She should be coming off the bench pretty soon.... Everything is "dry fit" at the moment.... will get it all assembled in the near future...
Here's a pic of the "intent"....
http://i302.photobucket.com/albums/nn88/evsallee/VMB/VMBII.png
Here's how she looks "pieced together".... still have to mill down the lid, but, the board sitting on top is the one I plan to use....
http://i302.photobucket.com/albums/nn88/evsallee/VMB/DSC01004.jpg
Here's a pic of one of the sides, lined.... I still need to make the drawers and place the drawer runners... The left side of the panel will allow for the humidification flow.... The right side of the panel is the sealed off compartment for Cutters, Lighters & maybe even a flask of scotch....
http://i302.photobucket.com/albums/nn88/evsallee/VMB/DSC01092.jpg
This is the "front".... I will be putting a couple of shelves in here. This part is sealed off from the rest of the interior.
http://i302.photobucket.com/albums/nn88/evsallee/VMB/DSC01091.jpg
And here is the "back" middle portion with an Avallo Accumonitor..... I will install the sensor on one of the sides and "short change" one of the drawers.

I have a lot going on in the shop.... I will have about 4 coming off, hopefully tomorrow and I'm working on a couple of checkerboard lids for the prototypes.... Spent most of the day working with spanish cedar.... a lot of cutting and gluing going on... trays, trays and more trays.....
I also have a few jewelry boxes in the wings... and I had made an extra.. and my girlfriend asked me why couldn't I make a humidor out of one... I've always liked this jewelry box and I pretty much discounted ever making it in to a humidor because the lid wasn't what I was use to, and... I guess I just didn't think through it enough....
So... after playing around a little bit... I have another smaller desktop to add to the mix... This will be part of the "Folly Rocks Collection"...
It's 15-1/2" x 8-1/2" x about 3-1/2" high... 4-1/2 if you count the tip top of the beveled lid.....
Humidor interior dimensions are 13-1/2" x 6-1/2" x 2".... I loaded it up and in the photos where they are lying horizontal, I got 30 cigars - some long, some shorts.... in the photo where they are vertical, I got 32. Plus a bead stick in both....
The wood is Primavera & Goncalo Alves
Tight little box!
Anyways.... whatcha think?
She's for sale!

I do like the low, wide shape of that one. I prefer that for desktops over the more cube like shapes, not sure why, just seems classy like it should be sitting beside a decanter of scotch and a many leather bound books.
I am inclined to agree. I like a desktop that is what it should be...a place to put smokes that are in imminent
danger of being SMOKED. I strongly believe in coolers or other mass storage devices for your actual stash.
So a real desktop should hold 50 or less smokes. BUT, being as this is basically a jewelry box, it is kind of sad
seeing that big ol slab of spanish cedar in there, although I know it HAS to be there for it to properly function.
But I agree, a desktop should be low-slung and elegant, not a big monument.

...Another one for the "Folly Rocks Collection".... She's starting to look like something now, so here's a sneak peek.
My client had some ideas on what he wanted.... He wanted THICK ebony matched up with Bird's Eye Maple.... And a drawer.... but, he didn't want the drawer to be obvious in the ebony.... didn't want to ruin the classic ebony look with a drawer cut in the middle of it..... So.... got the old grey matter working on this one....
Here's a picture of the base.... looking at it from the front. Yep, the bottom panel is a drawer.
http://i302.photobucket.com/albums/nn88/evsallee/BG0511/106-0.jpg
The top has a groove routed in it....waiting for a cigar band trim... And, we're going to go with a two way mirror for the glass center.... You'll be able to see the cigars when she's closed... and then when you open it, you'll see their reflection!
That.... coupled with the blacker than black, hand forged hinges, handles & lock.... this ought to turn out to be a pretty bad ass looking humidor (with any luck)!!!

I think the cigar band trim around the glass will look great, give it some colour and a different look, the two way mirror is another great idea, I'm really interested to see this one finished.
That drawer is sick!!!
4 more days and I will receive my beast!.

Bill: According To Ed: "840" Beautiful !:dr

Been working on this one as well... she's not quite done, but close enough... I'll post again after she's lacquered up.... Just got a little exited...
Bird's Eye Maple & Gabon Ebony.... 30" x 14" x 10" for about 550 count.....
Did a few different things with this one.... She has a hidden accessory drawer, elevated legs, Two Way Mirror for the lid...which offers pretty cool reflection of your stogies when ya open it up.... surrounded by an inlay of cigar bands.... This wood is probably the most expensive I've worked with.... It is the densest wood on the market. It will turn a turquoise greenish color and the brazilian ebony will get to nearly black..... No finish at all on it... just natural
It has maritime connections - and the BOTL that ordered happened to be in Charleston on the day it finiished.... He's a yacht captain for somebody... that's why he wanted the Lignum Vitae.... Cool Stuff! Picture myself and the Dan, the BOTL who ordered... I'm the guy on the left.

Ed, I hope I'm not asking you to give away some trade secrets, but I have a couple questions:
Where do you order your woods? Locally or Online? I'm having trouble finding the Spanish Cedar locally.
Where do you order your barrel hinges from? I keep finding references to nice ones in the UK, but I was hoping for something I wouldn't need to import.
Fantastic work all around. I keep coming back to this thread for inspiration. I gave up woodworking many years ago for a career in IT...trading one talent for another. I'm hoping making myself some humidors will get me back into the swing of making nice boxes. (shopping for a drum sander and dust collector now in fact!)

I guess this is what I see... either this or some viking warrior with a winged helmet. Definitely something more badass... but it's my humidor so I probably just don't want to see a puppet in it. :)

The more I look at these pictures the harder it is to resist buying one of Ed's humis.

I began a WMWH discussion with Ed in December 2011 and over the course of a month we settled on a design 17H x 12W x 12D in wenge and black palm. After a 50% deposit the build began early January with great progress pictures. Upon completion the balance owing and a shipping charge was paid.
Delivery took longer than we expected due to the shipper goofing up with the label, nothing we can do about 3rd parties.
The custom WMWH146 finally arrived and looked stunning. After a few days of seasoning...
I'll let Ed post up some pictures or I can. It is well documented from design to workshop and my experience since February 17, 2012.

That would be an option. I opted for another avenue. I'm sure we'll connect.

Can you include a pix in a PM? I've had a need several times to include a pix in a PM, but find no way to do that! It may be there, and I am just too tech-inhibited to find it!!!!
(Maybe why he posted instead of PM'd, I'm thinking!):)

So I would include a link in the PM just like I do in a thread? Dang-it. A DUH moment for sure, cause It never occurred to me. That happens when you are old and slow like me!
Sorry for the threadjack.

They give you the code and everything, Cliff. You just copy and paste it in your pm.
