I want to clarify my last post as I can see where it sounds a bit cold.
My only point is I'm not looking for an argument on this as both sides have strong feelings. Not a hill I want to die on myself is all.

Pretty sure this is not a rules violation.
I have been unable to have center ice for the past year do to agreement with the wife. Basically I work swing shift and miss most games. As a result I found a site that allows me to watch the games on my computer either when in the office or the car using a data cable from my phone.
Anyway if you are ever find yourself out or unable to watch a game at home I recommend the site www.myp2p.eu The Forums sections has links to streaming websites where people stream almost every game. I use this site a lot during the season while at work. The also do football, baseball, cricket, rugby, etc . Pretty much all things sports.

I haven't posted in this thread since Friday night, but I have read all of the posts since them.
IMHO, this series was outstanding - exciting from start to finish. I always figured it was going to go 7 games, especially with the extra experience that the Pens have acquired since last year.
In the end, with each team winning their games on home ice, this became a 1 game series. I love my Wings, but the better team won on Friday night. There were a few lucky breaks - each team hit the top goal crossbar... the Pens shot went in the Wings shot didn't... sometimes little things make the difference in a game. I have to congratulate the Penguins, and hope my Wings will be there next year again to get the Cup back!
Regarding Crosby's actions after the game, I've read all the comments and excuses, here and on line, but I have to agree with Al completely on this! If Sidney has any cojones at all, he would make a public apology to the Wings and to Lindstrom in particular. I really don't expect that to happen, but that's my personal opinion.
Go Wings!!

While Toews seems to be a standup young man and good player, he is not as good a player as Crosby.
Yet. ;) I see a lot of Joe Sakic in this kid.
and there are always exceptions, but correct me if I'm wrong, he played a while with them before gaining the "C" right? I would tend to think he earned, was voted captain etc.
I have to agree that Toews earned the "C" as a sophomore with his attitude and leadership as a freshman.

DETROIT -- Chris Chelios won't be with the Detroit Red Wings next season.
Wings general manager Ken Holland tells The Detroit News and the Detroit Free Press he met with the 47-year-old and Chelios wouldn't be offered another contract.
The Associated Press left a message for Holland Monday evening seeking comment.
Holland tells the News it was "kind of understood last summer" when Chelios signed a one-year deal that it would be his last.
Holland says Chelios wants to play another season and believes the veteran player can still play.
Detroit signed Chelios in 1999, and Holland calls him "just a perfect role model for young players."
I have little doubt Chelly will be playing somewhere next season.

Just saw this:
Yzerman, Hull, Robitaille, Leetch elected to HOF
-Steve Yzerman, Brett Hull, Luc Robitaille and Brian Leetch are going into the Hockey Hall of Fame. The selection committee announced on a conference call Tuesday it had elected the maximum four players this year. All were eligible for the first time. New Jersey Devils president Lou Lamoriello was also elected in the builder category.
Yzerman ranks sixth all-time in points with 1,755. The longtime Detroit Red Wings captain won the Stanley Cup three times and a gold medal with Canada in the 2002 Olympics.
"Even now when I go back home in the summers, it's really something that's really important to Canadian hockey fans and Canadians in general that we were able to win that medal," Yzerman said.
Hull's 741 goals rank third all-time. He played 19 years with the Calgary Flames, St. Louis Blues, Dallas Stars, Red Wings and Phoenix Coyotes. Hull received the Hart Trophy as league MVP in 1991.
His father, Bobby, is already in the Hall.
"It is hard to put into words what this means to me, especially since I'm joining my father in the Hockey Hall of Fame," Hull said in a statement.
His 741 goals trail only Wayne Gretzky and Gordie Howe, and his 24 career playoff game-winning goals are tied with Gretzky for the most in NHL history. He scored the Stanley Cup-winning goal for the Stars in the third overtime of Game 6 of the 1999 finals.
Hull was traveling in his current job as the Stars' executive vice president during the announcement.
Leetch became the first American-born player to earn the Conn Smythe Trophy after leading the New York Rangers to the Stanley Cup in 1994. He also twice won the Norris Trophy as the league's top defenseman.
Leetch is one of just five defensemen to have a 100-point season.
He and Hull played on the gold medal-winning 1996 U.S. World Cup team for which Lamoriello was the general manager.
"For sure, Brett and I were part of a group that were old enough to remember 1980 and to be spurred on that from a country standpoint," Leetch said.
Robitaille's 668 goals are the most by a left wing. He received the Calder Trophy as the league's top rookie in 1987.
Yzerman, Hull and Robitaille won a Stanley Cup together with the Red Wings in 2002.
"It was a great amount of good pressure where we were expected to win, but it was a lot of fun," Robitaille said.

A quick story.
We moved to Jersey just over nine years ago. One of the kids that played within the organization that my sons played in was truly enjoyable to watch. Great skating defensemen, good hands etc.. Over time we became friends and like I said I loved to watch him play. Would go to the rink to watch his games when I could. Anyway, one day about five years ago I saw him outside and he stopped to shoot the chit. I said to him, "I want you sign one of your old broken sticks and bring it to me cuz one day your going to be a professional hockey player and I want your first ever autograph". He just smiled, said thanks Mr. Clark and went on his way.
Fast forward to this years NHL draft.
In the fifth round the Kings selected defenseman David Kolomatis (5-11, 189 pounds) as the 126th overall selection. The 20-year-old native of Livingston, N.J. recorded 46 points (18-28=46) and 52 penalty minutes in 63 regular season games for the OHL’s Owen Sound Attack in 2008-09. His 46 points led Owen Sound defensemen and ranked 12th among OHL blue-liners. In four playoff games for Owen Sound he recorded four points (2-2=4) and zero penalty minutes. After Owen Sound was eliminated from the playoffs Kolomatis joined the AHL’s Providence Bruins. He posted zero points and zero penalty minutes in four regular season games and one point (0-1=1) and two penalty minutes in 16 playoff games with Providence. Kolomatis also played with Owen Sound in 2006-07 and 2007-08, recording 20 points (4-16=20) and 45 points (9-36=45) respectively. His 45 points in 2007-08 led Owen Sound defensemen and was 16th in the league among blue-liners. Internationally, Kolomatis represented Team USA on the 2005-06 Under-18 National Team.
I have a PM out to him reminding Dave I still want my stick. :D

I still find the system for hockey as to the jr aspects and the limbo effect it has on peoples lifes the worse aspect of the sports development.
Al and I talked about this once. These kids finish highschool but can play jrs till age 20. They often have to leave home to do this. At the end of this some very few move on most dont. This is the one of the things that scares the crap out of me about letting my son play. Of course there is no guarentee he would ever be good enough to be anything but this sport unlike any other has a strange limbo period that slows down the regualr progression of a persons life if they are good enough. You dont see this in football, baseball, soccer, hell any other sport.
Then you compound this with the issue of how to get kids noticed, or some would say get more money out of parents is also increasing. If you dont live in minnesota most parents are required to do high level travel teams to hope their child gets noticed. This is 15k for just the kid to do this not if you want to go with them. Funny I spent some time thinking about this over the weekend while at work. I pretty much came to the conclusion I could neve let him play AAA travel.
Just noticed this http://naphl.net/about.cfm seems it is an attempt to compete with Tier 1 elite. San Jose Jr. Sharks decided to join this. Wonder how much more expensive this will be.
It seems like the worse aspect of this sport for kids is the issues getting kids noticed in the US when they dont live in a very few states. Parents end up paying a ton of money to attempt to achieve this. This is only usually to get them onto a jr team.
I dont have this kind of money and likely never will so even if my son was good enough one day he would never get the exposure needed to get noticed. Just seems kind of a bummer. Growing up playing baseball I had a legitamate chance of playing college ball but didnt really want to. All I did was play little league and HS ball. Didnt cost my parents much of anything.

Big rumor in Chicago now is that the Hawks are trying to move Huet and his ginormous contract so they can resign Khabibulin (please please please please). I am guessing there is little chance the Hawks will resign Havlat now unless he is willing to sign a one-year deal, which is doubtful.

True, but I felt both Havlat and Khabbi were a huge part of our success last year. Would like to keep both around, however I don't see that happening. Also with Kane, Toews and Barker needing new contracts next year it will be tough to fit under the cap.

Blackhawks GM Dale Tallon fired today. Looks like the last of the Wirtz era regime is gone.

Stan Bowman is the new Hawks GM. His biggest qualification? Scotty Bowman is his Daddy.

:tpd:
I didn't like DT, he seemed to make contracts that were a little too lengthy. But I agree that Stan really has no true qualifications to be GM.

Anyone from Detroit know more about Hudler signing in Russia? I saw the ESPN.com story but wondered if the Detroit guys have inside info.
hockey channel on XM basically said it was a money issue. He wasnt going to be paid well here in the NHL so he took the money. He says he will be back and believes he will play another 10 years of hockey. It seems he is a victim of the cap. Just glad to see the cap is finally effecting how the wings build there team. This is really the first year they have had to let guys go.
