I follow Sutter's blog. That guy has to be a PR nightmare for the studios. OMG, he says whatever the **** he wants, when he wants. I admire that, but it's not a great idea for being in the limelight as he is, :2.

Gemma and her glasses
The Hale situation
Jax and Tara
I thought this was supposed to be a MAN show. Shoot 'em up, mayhem, motorcycles, but the characters are so well written and acted... they come across as real people and not just stereotypes and cardboard cutouts... Sutter is a genius!! I'm really looking forward to this season.
I'm still holding out hope for an SOA field trip to Ireland. :D

"Anything happens to my Grandson, anything, and I'm gonna shove a gun barrel up your boney ass and shoot your black hear out"
Freakin' classic! However I could've done without Clay's "past, present & future" line at the funeral, way to predictable and overdone.

Not really the past, present future part of Clays speech that set up Jax's response at the funeral, more that the club was looking to see where his head was at.

I've been behind the 8-ball with this show as I haven't seen one episode!?! Sounds great so I just got the first 2 seasons and watched the first episode today... I'm hooked! Can't wait to see what happens and it will be nice to breeze through 2 seasons.
So based off the first episode, I'm guessing Jackson will stray from the Sons of Anarchy as he doesn't like the killing and violent crimes they are doing. He will stray himself from his mother who will side with the current (first) President. He will also have a thing with the nurse, his former girlfriend I'm assuming. Not sure what Jacks will do... try to bring the group to his side, go stateside and go undercover to help authorities take out all the gang activity, or what? Endless ways it could go and I'm looking forward to seeing what you all know already!
btw, I didn't read any of this thread, just posted in it as I didn't want to see anything that would ruin the first 2 seasons for me! LOL

You have it all wrong, Ryan. Jax joins Ringling Brothers, Barnum and Bailey Circus, and tries to ween the gang off of violence through laughter. The nurse joins him as a bearded trapeze artist, and his Mom reveals that she is actually a man.
Hope I didn't spoil it for you, but I didn't want you to be disappointed.

YES! Totally agreed brother.
The first 5 minutes of the episode I absolutely LOVED. The music and the pacing were just right for me. It slowed down a bit near the middle of the episode but that's to be expected as they're trying to set everything up. The last scene made the entire episode. I was so reminded of Edward Norton in Fight Club during that last scene. The line "I wanted to breathe smoke" just keep repeating in my head.
Damn good episode.

Still digesting the ending of that first episode. Looked like in the previews Jax is making a deal with Stahl - hope it ain't so. If it is, hopefully it is a ploy to get what he wants and end her in the process. Either way, looks like we have a wild ride to look forward to.

If you are going to have characters with Irish brogues, do they have to speak in whispers?
They are respectful enough of the church not to raise their voices, yet have no problem killing a man in it?

Opie: "Every time I try to talk to her we end up naked."
Bobby: “Just marry her – that’ll stop it.”
totally forgot about that one! I was loving clay's "I hope someone is videoing this"

A nice slow episode after all the chaos of the first two. Setting somethings up for next week. Stephen King is AWESOME as Bachman. Super creepy yet endearingly quirky as only King can be.
My heart broke for Cherry when Maureen asked her to reach out to Charming and she said she would just call Kip. I'm sure she's going to play a part in getting Abel back where he belongs. I'd totally forgotten that's where Gemma sent her when all her drama was going down.
I've been lurking on some of the SOA boards and there are whole layers of drama we haven't even talked about. Maureen and JT, huh? How deep does that go?
Looks like I'm going to get my wish though... The SAMCRO's going to Ireland!!!

Not a bad episode, but I'm hoping its going to get better with all of the traveling that is coming up.
You're totally right about Bobby's line being the best of the night.
Yep, King appearing as the "cleaner" was just great. The reaction when he was feeling up the body was hillarious. Gotta pick it up soon, tho.

I think it has more to do with the storyline than behind the scenes stuff. :2
Jacob and Unser getting in bed together makes a better storyline than Hale becoming Chief and Unser dying of Cancer. :2

I didn't pick up on any pregnancy hints.
Perhaps Joey is referring to Gemma and Tara's talk in the basement when Gemma tells Tara that she'll "make a great mother". She's talking about caring for Abel if Gemma and Jax have to go away, not an impending birth.
Great episode. Excited about all the setup.

If Katey Segal doesn't win an Emmy this year something is truly wrong. The whole sequence with her dad was intense. That kind of thing is one of things that really sets this show apart. Very few shows in this style go into that level of character development and depth.
My one question is what happened to the group of "tweakers" one moment they were all being detained and they never resolved what they did with them by the end of the episode. Did I miss something?

I read into all the non verbal ques in the context that Gemma didn't know (at that moment) that Abel isn't in Charming. So I read it as Tara's inner struggle to keep her mouth shut (which I was afraid she wouldn't) and Gemma's confusion over Tara's strong reaction to their lil talk.
And I am never wrong. ;)
Still going to do a marathon of the episodes so far and see if I can see it from your angle.

Hmmm... I had assumed that both times we have seen her throw up (that I can recall) were both related to dealing with dead bodies - first with Kohn and then with Nick's caregiver. First time was the morning after she and Jax hooked up for the first time - this go 'round. Will have to keep an eye on it.
I agree with the Kitty too about Tara's reaction to Gemma... more about resisting the need to tell Gemma about Abel.
Regardless, I am enjoying this season. The guy who held the shotgun on Piney had been on one of my other shows - "Justified." His character got killed off in the last episode. (Hester)
Glad Jax and Clay are solid... hope Jax is able to work it out with Tara, though. Her character has impressed me with her strength. :ss

My take on the throwing up thing with Tara is more related to her losing her ability to be a surgeon. Surgeons generally have no issue with dead bodies and are very clinical about them. IMHO it mostly shows the effect on how the violence associated with SAMCRO affects someone from outside that outlaw culture. It also shows her level of commitment to Jax to continue to struggle to be part of that world which has such a strong & negative effect on her. Or she could be pregnant. :)

As a longtime biker and MC member, I was at first repulsed but the fact that SoA was another fictional caricature of a culture so few understand or know anything about.
But the characters are well written, the storylines intense, and the acting is pretty good. It has no basis in reality, but then again, neither did E.T and it was a pretty good flick back in the day.

"Travelin’ Band", originally recorded by Creedence Clearwater Revival...not sure who did tonight's version.
Seven Thirty Seven comin' out of the sky.
Oh! Won't you take me down to Memphis on a midnight ride,
I wanna move.
CHORUS:
Playin' in a Travelin' Band. Yeah!
Well, I'm flyin' 'cross the land, try'in' to get a hand,
Playin' in a Travelin' Band.
Take me to the hotel, Baggage gone, oh, well.
Come on, come on, won't you get me to my room,
I wanna move.
CHORUS
Listen to the radio, Talkin' 'bout the last show.
Someone got excited, Had to call the State Militia,
Wanna move.
CHORUS
Oh! WOW!
Here we come again on a Saturday night
Oh with your fussin' and your fightin'
Won't you get me to there right,
I wanna move.
CHORUS
Oh! WOW!
Oh! I'm playin' in a Travelin' Band;
Playin' in a Travelin' Band.
Won't you give us all a hand
Well, I'm playin' in a Travelin' Band,
Well, I'm flyin' 'cross the land.

The Sons are going to Ireland!! Finally getting my dream episode and it's 90 minutes long!!!
R.I.P. Langdon - Gonna miss that guy. He made me giggle.
Life is a setup. To expect a storyline to exist within a vaccuum where one issue is handled at a time, would be the kiss of death, imho. The multi-layered plot is part of what I love about this show. Sometimes you see the madness coming and sometimes it blindsides you, like a senile old man with a hunting rifle. :) I think the constant doublecrosses and betrayals help to highlight just how closely the club sticks together against all odds.
How about the ladies this week?!? I actually had to learn Opie's girl's name. It's Lyla and I <3 her! Another name for you: Margaret Murphy. That's the hospital admin's name. I'm intrigued to see this support for Tara's outlaw ways. I figured she was going to serve her up on a silver platter. I bet Margaret's hiding a tattoo under that buttoned up suit.
It's all about to hit the fan, at home and abroad. Way too many "nothing's going to happen to me" speeches for it not to go sour somehow.
I figured our Ima's last name. In case you're wondering who Ima is, she's the owner of that gratutitous a$$ shot coming back from one of the commercial breaks, the "**** slut" who couldn't help herself... I figure her full name must be Ima Ho. I know, she doesn't look asian, but it's gotta be right. :D

I agree life is a setup but every 3rd episode? Repetitive much? JUST FOR ONCE I want to see the SoA stomp the fools that "set them up" perhaps maybe just once they planned for a setup and brought like 3 chapters.
We did get that at the end of season 2 with the Aryans but that was no surprise we knew they wouldn't play fair.

Another name for you: Margaret Murphy. That's the hospital admin's name. I'm intrigued to see this support for Tara's outlaw ways. I figured she was going to serve her up on a silver platter. I bet Margaret's hiding a tattoo under that buttoned up suit.
I would just like to say.... CALLED THAT $H!T!! :D
I'm going to watch this episode again before I really get into my rant. I'm feeling like I missed something at the border crossing.
Great eiposde though. Intense and startling. I was a source of amusement to a friend who was watching with me. He doesn't follow and knows nothing about SOA and I'm yelling at the TV.

Great call Crystal! I was surprised by that when I saw it.
Mentioning of yelling at the tv. My wife was so pissed off at Jax when he had told Tara he was done then he went and slept with Ima from caracara. She was yelling at him and ready to just go off. I had to pause it so I could continue hearing it once she calmed down.

Patrick, I've seen quite a few old lady's with full back tats before... that doesn't mean they are members or even ride. I'm still holding out that she used to be someone's old lady at some point in her life.
Sorry you're not digging on it Greg. This is actually my favorite season so far.

No but they usually have AT LEAST ONE redeeming quality (ala huge tits or something).
I agree this season is .....meh the whole kid thing is annoying. The rest of the season is good I just hate this kid plot.

Me too. If someone had my son, and they told me that.... They are dead unless they took me to him right then, no seconds wasted.

I don't want to have kids or anything but if someone took my cat...... I wouldn't waste much time catching them....after that it may become time consuming. So I can definitely agree with you on that. If anyone takes anything of mine that breaths they don't simple as that.
Another thing the aryan that raped jax's mom.....he got off WAY too easy....a headshot...give me a break.
Anyways, I hope this season gets better and they get the kid thing squared away. But now they got jax's old lady......so annoying. The season plot in one word Abduction.

Remember the former member that they burned his tattoo off with a torch? The SOA seem to be puss-ing out more and more as the show goes along. That van bomb in the barn, and then not beating the crap out of the 2 SAMBEL guys who didn't get trapped, when they already suspect them. The SOA needs less estrogen and more testosterone.
Bill86
11-03-2010, 04:41 PM
I completely agree, I've been saying that since the show started. EVERY other biker group is ruthless and doesn't care. Why do Samcro worry about "heat" and "police" when no one else does? Makes no sense. Those Sambel guys were suspected and didn't get hurt by the blast and were WAY far away RIGHT when it happened. That is not a coincidence.

I think that is the key conflict of the whole show. Is the SOA just a bunch of thug gangbangers or something more? It is possible to be ruthless and still stand for something. Jax's entire internal conflict reflects this and we see that play out through the lens of the choices he makes as he handles his trials like losing Abel, his Mom's legal issues etc.
Sometimes Jax gets caught up in thinking having integrity is just good business and sometimes he really struggles with trying to have a moral compass and do right in a world that is completely morally ambiguous.
These conflicts are also played out in his wavering affiliations to the ideal of his father (idealistic) vs. his stepfather (pragmatic). This is what makes the storyline of his fathers infidelity in Ireland so explosive. It puts the whole idealized nature of his father in chaos for Jax if/when he finds this out.
I do think the Able thing is played out and the pace of this season has been inconsistent. The issues with Jacob Hale, The Mayans, L.O.A.N., Law Enforcement is plenty of antagonists to deal with and IMHO lead to much more interesting and intriguing storylines. I feel like the whole Ireland thing is a hell of a lot of set-up for the family history payoff which I just don't think is going to live up to all of this build up.

I am with you completely. Sounds like I need to watch the last 2 episodes though. I stopped watching a few weeks ago. It got too unrealistic for me. I mean they always had some stuff that made you say "yeah right" but this season is rediculous! Jemma's room not being gaurded at all times meanwhile letting a known criminal organization have unsupervised visits with her. And disarming an entire police tactical unit on the side of the road in a foreign country? I'm sorry but they have gone too far. Maybe it's just me, I dunno.:sh

The previews imply that Jax will end up leaving Abel in Ireland with the adopted family. Doesn't bode well for accepting Tara's pregnancy if that is true.

The who trip to Ireland thing has been fairly stupid to me. Jax should have dragged that priest to go get his son, right then. As to giving my son away to someone else, no way! Not even going to think about it. If it comes down to either change my lifestyle and job or give up my children, kids win every time. This is just a more convoluted replay of Jax wrestling with what his dad wrote in that book. I think this will become the recurring theme for the life of the show, Jax is waffling about leaving the club, then he will get sucked back in, repeat ad infinitum.

Agree with you 100% for real life. But for drama, not interested in watching Jax's adventures as the new assistant manager at Applebees. :D
Your take on the "waffling" is spot on too, that was set up as the conundrum from episode #1.

I, on the other hand, would love to see Jax's adventures as an Applebee's manager. I can just picture some dudes comin' in having too many big brutus beers thinking they will have some fun smack talkin' the dorky manager, when all of a sudden.....Bam, Jax has a relapse and goes all SOA on them.
Ok, Ok, so maybe his adventures wouldn't last long in that scenario, but it would be funny to watch.

I am ok if Jax is going to waffle over leaving the MC, as long as it is for interesting reasons, because some crazy priest handed my son over to be adopted is not an interesting reason.
Hey, here is the next story line, Jax flies back to the US with no son, and since they never reported him as officially kidnapped. Jax goes to Federal prison for the disappearance of his child.
