Don't get me wrong, it's still good and one of the few shows I go out of my way to watch the night it airs (especially as late as it airs). But, before this season it was slightly ahead of Breaking Bad; Breaking Bad is now way ahead.
It went from very entertaining and well written should have received and Emmy nomination to just entertaining.

Great finish, made up for what I thought was a mediocre season (by SoA standards). Like rennD said, good wrap up, I was worried we didn't get that.
Very glad to see Stahl dead, character was great, but they took her too far and used her too often just for plot.
I assume that Opie and Chibs would still serve the time for the gun charges like everyone else, just get arrested later? It's not like they'll just forget their names were on the original arrests.
SmokeyJoe

Remember... Opie never got arrested for the original gun charge. He had left before the Police arrived... he was following Zobel.
And it may be that Chibs was not there either... wasn't he still in the hospital? :ss

I am kinda torn about Stahl. She is just the type of bat $hit crazy character that makes you love to hate her.
I kept thinking that the club had something up their sleeve, but didn't think the story would play out that way, without Jemma knowing about it.

This season has been an excercise in going with the script for me. There were a few points where I would have written it differently, but Kurt Sutter I am not... and Thank, God!! :) I feel like having seen the finale, I can go back through the season with new eyes. Some of the things that left me scratching my head, might now make perfect sense. I can't wait to have an SOA marathon with my DVR.
Ok, one last time, for old time's sake... F*#@ Stahl!! I've hated her since day 1 and to see her finally dealt with makes me all warm and fuzzy. I'm glad Opie got to the be the one to pull the trigger. I feel like there was closure in that for him and it clears the way for an Opie-Layla story. Maybe, she'll make better friends.
Season 3 felt like a chess game to me. Opening moves pretty standard and unexciting. Middle game of jockeying for position and setting traps. And then.... Snap! Boom! Crash!!... wtf was that?!! Checkmate?! YES!!! I know a lot of people hated the whole baby-chasing storyline, but it introduced us to a lot of new faces, dug up some old history, and prepared the way for next season. There's a whole new array of characters to play with.
YMMV, but I think this season was absolutely brilliant. It takes a great writer to set up a picture that big and make all the pieces fit together right. Where last season's finale left me pissed off and anxious to know what happened next, this season's left me satisfied and looking forward to the next chapter. I can't wait to see what Sutter has in store up ahead. I heart Charlie Hunnam as an actor (not just because he's hot) and I wanna be Gemma when I grow up.
How many days until September? :)

The one thing I don't get in the episode last night, maybe it was tipping their hand a bit. During the chase scene with the club/Russians, the Feds pull out and block the road. The club stops, guy driving the van gets on the bike with Tig(?) and they ride through the road block, as the Feds waive them through. Made me scratch my head at first, but then made sense at the end. Anyone else think that?

I didn't get that. Jax told Stahl to do it this way so the club doesn't think he ratted, that it looks like they're going after the Russians. But, would they really leave a van with Jimmy O. that easily and just take off if that was the case? Does Stahl not see how planned it was for Juice to jump out of the van and on a bike and take off?
Also, there was a huge box of guns in that van, what happened to that, or does the ATF just ignore it for them here?

Yeah, they knew. I actually think they knew before they went to Belfast, but that is up for interpretation. I'd like to rewatch the season with that in mind and see if anything leads me to believe they know or don't.
One big tipping point for me was how Jax was always meeting with Stahl alone. He just shows up to get $250k by himself? Jax never travels on club business alone. Then he just shows up after they kidnap Jimmy O. to meet with Stahl. Those had me thinking something was up before it happened.

Same for when Unser shows up as they're leaving to get Jimmy O. Clay thanks him for all he's done for the club, implying the $250k. You'd have thought Jax would've interveined to deflect at that point, since he told Stahl he would say he got it from Unser.
Either way, it sets up for a good 4th season. You can see the groundwork is laid for a Gemma/Kara battle.

I know that they were aware of the deal. What I was expanding on was what Chainsaw said. So if they were playing along that they didn't know about the deal, why'd they pass the roadblock so quickly? I think this was one of the major flaws on how they shot that scene.

I agree, although they did wait for Stahl to wave them by. If they don't know what's going on and see the ATF waive them through, they probably go with it. But, definitely some holes there.

Yup. Even if they give a short pause in their actions, that wouldve been fine. Instead the guy driving the van just jumped out and jumped on the back of the bike so quickly.

Lucas is so overrated and played out. He had 2-3 good ideas and whored it up for YEARS on a few simple ideas. Star wars lego games? Star wars cartoons? Whore much? I think so. He's all about the $$$ and ruining the original star wars. :td

Not trying to start any kind of Lucas bashing or praising here, just saying personally I like Sutter's stuff better. ;)
Man, I don't think I want to watch either Plan 9 from Outer Space or The Walking Dead with some of you guys. LOL! Sometimes you have to shut the brain off and drool while you watch. I understand though. It's rough sitting through the sound effects of cocking a trigger on a Glock.
I think the season finale delivered. Too often I'm just left feeling empty after a season finale. I know several of us felt 'blah' after some of The Shield's. I got my time and monies worth. I'm actually going to watch it again.

More thoughts....
Did anyone else think that when Wayne was taking off his shield and putting his service piece away in favor of the revolver in his desk that he was going to kill himself?
Also, that circle and cross or T that Chibbs drew on the back window of Stahl's cruiser, does anyone know the meaning behind it? I thought it might have been a Russian symbol so that the murders could be pinned on them.
I also LOVED how Chibbs finished off Jimmy. The slices on his mouth were a nice touch. I hope that his girls get to come back to the states with him. That would be sweet.
The Shield is my favorite TV series of all time, but Sons of Anarchy is in a battle with the Shield for that position.

I really loved the Finale. I have to admit, I had Jax pegged as a rat.
I've seen tougher guys fold when they were facing less of a rap.
The best part for me was it could've very well been a series finale.
They tied up all loose ends and paved the way for a whole new storyline keeping things fresh.
I imagine the next time we see SAMCRO they will be 14 months into their sentence,
Unser will be dead, the relationship with the Irish will be cemented, and the beef with the Russians will be settled since SOA will now be supplying them with guns,
paving the way for all new villains and antagonists.
Brilliant writing :tu

I assumed the symbol was IRA... the FBI knew they wanted Jimmy dead. And the end as it came for Stahl and Jimmy were nothing short of poetic. Nice touch on both.

Just re-watched the 2nd half of the finale. I thought this season was a letdown compared to the first two, but this finale is a work of art. So worth the pains of some of the child search and plot twists.
It is great to re-watch and look for clues of the setup. One big one is after Jax gets screwed by Stahl he jumps on the bike with a big grin.
