Ok I know it's a little soon but I am fired up for football and have high hopes for the season! I've been a Jets fan my entire life and haven't been this excited since '99. those hopes were dashed when Vinnywent down for the season in week one. With Rex Ryan leading a team with this much talent the sky is the limit! . . . Who's with me!?

I think we got lucky last year, but who knows. Let's see how the training camp goes first, injuries and players wise. Revis is still a holdout and may set an example.

It's true that we got a little lucky last season but everyone needs a little luck to get that far. If Sanchez doesn't take a step back we will be in every game with our defense.

From everything I've read Revis has no plans to hold out. Injuries and such happen that's for sure, but as a Jets fan if you can't be hopefull now, when can you?

Actually, I believe Sanchez is the weak link, unfortunately. He does have a few more weapons now with new signings and I hope he cuts down on bad decisions, but you cannot get to Superbowl throwing for just 175 yards per game. And running game is still a question mark until proven otherwise with Washington gone. Like I said, a number of question marks and I hope I am wrong.

I agree that Sanchez is the weak link. I think his numbers should improve now that he will not feel the need to force it to Edwards. With Holmes, Edwards, Cotch and Keller he has pleantly of targets. It's all mental at this point. Although I will miss Washington we did well without him for more than half of son. Alot depends on Greenes health ans weather or LT still has some gas in the tank. I'll take that, any day of the week, over making turnovers late in the game. Actually, Sanchez was made to throw short once it was clear almost every long throw of his is an interception, so what good is a strong arm?

I am more concerned with the Revis situation, though, as this can lead to dressing room problems with others also expecting improved contracts.

Sanchez may not have proven himself on the field yet, but he has certainly made a few friends here in town. He hangs around some in local restaurants, and is always willing to talk or sign something. So he may or may not become a star, yet has not yet shown any indication that he is a douche.

Decades? That's not a factual statement. If you look back. Dolphins owned the Jets in the 70's, 80's, 90's and late 00's. The only dominance you have had over the Dolphins was in the early 00's. ;)

Haha spoken like a true Giants fan. I respect the Giants org. and I like Eli, but aside from qb and defensive end the Jets a better in every position. speaking of injury, last year the Jets did what they did after losing Jenkins on D and Washington on O. The three years remaining on his contract.

And that should have stopped him how?

Mangold is definitely paying attention and at this point and if Jets do not make good, and quickly, I can't see any high profile player ever wanting to play/sign for them in the future. If unproven rookie can get $50M deal, then what about proven players? Not that I agree with the crazy money deals we're seeing lately be it NFL, NBA or EPL, for that matter. Plus, if they want locker room stability they need to show they take care of their players.

Something has to give...

I think that might be a little over the top.

It is a bad situation because of namdi's ridiculous deal from Oakland and the uncertain future of the CBA. Hopefully they will find middle ground involving a 1 year bandaid kind of deal. He is quickly losing fan support in NY.

Mangold and Harris I'm sure are paying attention, but have shown up to camp like a team leader should. You are putting it all on the Jets, how about the player? I know he needs to get paid and I'm sure he will, but due to the current situation there has to be comprimise on both sides.

I don't think this will effect whether or not a big name free agent ever signs with the Jets again.

TheRiddick

I did not put it all on for Jets, I only pointed out that they refuse to even enter negotiations. For NOW they have not made ANY offers, at least none that I am aware of so far (despite all the talk they do in media). I understand Raiders/Namdi BS, but I can also point out that other teams/players have treated it is as a "one off", look at Broncos for the example. Too bad Revis is too greedy to understand this and yes, I know many Jets fans have also put it on Revis so I am not alone in this. Jets have to start making amends by making a decent enough offer, but they still need to make an offer FIRST no matter what the numbers are, so far they only showed that they were interested to see if Revis shows up for camp. I think many are in agreement that unless they offer some crazy deal (over Namdi's numbers) Revis won't even listen and by the looks of it I tend to agree.

The only saving grace so far is that Mangold seems to be smarter than Revis and reported to camp, that is the best way to show management you are a pro and also that you believe they will do the right thing for you. Revis is a CB, not a RB, chances of getting injured permanently are much less.

As things stand right now I won't be surprised if we see a trade taking place, Jets can get a lot back and having brought in 2 great corners in the off-season already they just may be in a much better position to negotiate than many realize.

But, as I said already, Jets HAVE to make a move FIRST... At least then if Revis refuses, then they can legitimately claim they tried.

The Jets HAVE made several offers including long and short term. Revis has turned everything down because there wasn't enough up front. I would expect him to show up by the 10th as he will be fined 16,000 a day after that. there is really not to much the Jets can do concerning a long term deal until at least next off season. hopefully they can agree on something short term involving a big signing bonas if not, I hate to say it but the Jets could get a hell of lot in a trade. Rex Ryan has had some pretty good Defenses before he had Revis. As for me, I'm a fan of the team before ANY player.

Interesting. Wide reports over past few days that although Jets seemed like they made offers, not even one official offer was ever made. I have not seen any numbers thrown out there by the team so far, have you? What are they?

Revis is on the record, though, that he wants to be the highest paid CB in the league and we all know it means $15+M per year (Raiders' monopoly money).

Team comes first, I am with you, especially now that Jets are rich at CB position Revis or not and last week a DB elsewhere signed in the region of $10-12M per year. But I would still like to see the management throw out some numbers out there to start negotiations and to justify their position, they are losing momentum at this point and we're headed towards a trade.

The Jets/Revis thing will probably work out. Some vets just don't like training camp much and will drag a renegotiation out in order to miss some of the two a days. Not saying Revis doesn't want more money but it's possible he's playing this for as long as he can and is enjoying doing all his workouts in the air conditioning in the meantime.
As for making numbers public I don't expect to see it. At least not officially. Maybe a leak will happen but you can never judge whether the leak was deliberate by the team or just a fantasy on the writer's part.

I only mentioned that because of reports in media over the weekend that Jets have NOT made ANY official offer so far, Tannenbaum himself admitted that. And to support that, I cannot recall ANY mention of numbers so far as well, be it the Jets numbers or Revis' agent's numbers, even via rumors. I hope Jets can extend his contract and keep the guy, but if their hand is forced and he has to be traded I won't mind, I am sure they can get a pretty good replacement in return on top of 2 great CBs that were brought in during the summer (draft and trade). Who's to say that newly drafted CB won't turn out to be another Revis in the making? By all the reports I've read so far I won't be surprised one bit... But it would be great to see Revis teach the guy a few tricks, that's for sure.

I am more concerned with Sanchez, to be honest, IMO he is the weak link this year.

You mean like Nnamdi getting stupid money to play on his winning team?

When Revis signed a contract 3 years ago that made him take in almost $20M over the first 2 years and then only $1M on Year 3, did Jets hold a gun to his head to do that? His stupid agents AND Revis himself were fine with the deal that would then pay him $20M more in years 4 and 5, why is all of this an issue at this point?

At this point, Revis doesn't care what team he plays on as long as he gets his money, same way his uncle destroyed his own career with Skins years ago.

Good game. 7-7 when the Giants sat the starters. I was a little surprised to see the Jets keep theirs in so long. This kid Cruz may have made it impossible for coaches to cut him and Bomar looked good enough that the Giants won't be able to stash on the PS this year - they'll have to carry three QBs on the roster. If they can come up with some decent special teams play I think it will be a good season.
Jets look like they'll do well too but it's too early to tell if santonio holmes will be a big help - he did most of his damage against 2nd and 3rd teamers.

With Revis, without Revis, same old Jets... Shame...

WOW!!! You gave up on the season after a disappointing show from our 2nd and 3rd teamers after the first preseason game!!???

It was good game between the starters. Hopefully Eli is fine. Cruz looked really good, I'm sure you will see him in against some first teamers next week.

I think Holmes will be a great addition when he comes back in week 5. If anything he will demand double coverage freeing up the other receivers. He also brings the ability to stretch the field.

All the more reason to maybe not give up after the first preseason game. you got me I've only been going to games for 25 years, 30 is more years. I'm just saying give it a chance. If you look at the starters, our D front seven man handled their O line, LT and Greene looked great and Sanchez recovered well after that stupid pick and played smart. Granted our 2nd and 3rd teamers gave up some bad plays but I don't know how you can be upset with the starters play. Imo they looked ready to start the season and it's only mid August.

My take on the starters tonight: the Jets O line got man handled, Sanchez looked confused and out of sync. LT looked great and seams like there is something left in the tank. the Defense looked pretty tight aside from a few miscues. special teams looked great and I think could have an impact on some close games this season.

Mark, we sure seem to going to Super Bowl this year, Sanchez is what today, 5 for 12 yards? After all the money spent on buying great offensive players. Like I said already, Revis is the least of Jets' problems right now since I can't recall a team ever winning a SB without a decent QB, which we are lacking right now. Brunell is more money wasted, as proven second week in the row...

So, what happens when he gets burned for 2 TDs next week?

He really lost face with many a fan, all I can tell. He had a bone to pick, that's for sure, but that bone was with his agents for the incredibly stupid first contract they told him to sign.

I will agree with you that Shottenheimer is not the best offensive mind there is, his entire career is spotty, but I also understand that his calls are dictated by what he has been given.

Jets royally screwed up this year, first by giving in to Revis and thus affecting every other team and player for years to come and second by blindly convincing themselves they have a QB. I'll take anyone at this point.

If you recall my prior posts during pre-season you'll see that even back then I knew Sanchez is crap, he was crap all year long last season and I see no signs of improvement at all. She is into being provocative. That is her niche in the business. It is all about showing her chest and body at all times.
If you tease a lion in a cage and you are in there with it, you are going to get hurt.
Her going into a men's locker room, dressed in the fashion she dresses is clearly not appropriate.
Again, not justifying what was done if anything was done, just saying this is a classic case of teasing the lion by going in the cage with it.

I've been reading about this issue that's been going on with the reporter (Ines Sainz), and think that this issue goes both ways. I've seen pictures and she is a very attractive woman. I've been in plenty of lockerrooms in my time (albeit not a professional one with reporters coming in to interview), and know the mentality that is prevalent in there. I knew enough "normal" guys who would have had a reaction and done something inappropriate if a reporter such as her would come into the lockerroom (whipping off their towel if she looked at them, catcalls, etc.). I agree with Carlos' teasing the lion example, to an extent. Yes, it's a lockerroom, and she may have been dressed somewhat provocatively (no idea what she was wearing that day), but it is a PROFESSIONAL lockerroom. They should be held to somewhat higher standards and act accordingly. But the reality of it is that if it weren't for professional football, there is a decent percentage of them who would not be doing much with their lives. Given the precedent that Goodell has set in the last couple years regarding behavior of players (and coaches), I imagine that there will be some sort of sanction coming against the Jets. Right or wrong, it's his prerogative as the commish.

For any of you who haven't seen, here's a "typical" outfit she wears while doing her job:
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v230/Mackiesback/who-is-this-chick.jpg

As for the game and complaints about your QB...He's only starting his SECOND year! How many QBs start for a team that makes the playoffs in their first season out of college? The speed of the game is vastly different at the pro level, no matter what school he went to. Reading defenses and uncovering the disguises takes time to learn, and I doubt they allowed him to do any of that at all last year. Your team is a running team, and they let a 1400yd back go from last season, and replaced him with a young, unproven back and a veteran who is nearing the end of a Hall of Fame career. Plus, they played against a very good defense. You have to give the Ravens some credit for what they do on the other side of the ball. Plus, your team's window of opportunity is just opening up, unlike the team I root for (the Vikings). Despite how they played and fared in Monday's game, they are still a team to be feared because of that D. I'd still have them up near the top of the league and as one of the favorites to make it to and possibly win the SB. Remember the Ravens in 2000.

Good luck!

She has been on Mexican TV in various stages of "undress" conducting "interviews", she has been pictured, ON THE JOB, with her crotch visible (ala Basic Instinct), etc, etc, etc. This is her shtick to get noticed. If its good enough for Mexico it ought to be good enough here...

Have no idea why NFL is even up in arms since all of this info is readily available and has already been reported by various news links in USA. They should actually REQUIRE a proper state of attire, they require that of their players and owners, don't they?

Can someone please let me know if male sports reporters, fully and properly dressed of course, are allowed in female sports lockers/showers when players are still naked?

I lost all respect for Johnson when he didn't tell NFL to go stick it deep and with force (and no vaseline) and apologized to all instead.

I WOULD LOVE TO SEE HER DO THIS BS IN SAUDI ARABIA OR DUBAI. I'd pay money to see that, for sure. How much anyone wants to bet that all of a sudden she'd find common sense not to do this BS there. Actually, wouldn't even be caught wearing that "I worked my Plaza Hotel client into the morning and had no time to change" dress while on sidelines?

To make it short. She wore what's known as "little black dress", you know, what women wear to late night parties. Or "escorts" wear to "dates", wink, wink...

As for her "I felt so threatened" BS, one of players said "bonita senorita"... Seriously offensive... She later said that no one really made her feel threatened (no doubt because she knows there were plenty of cameras around and her claims would not be backed up), indicating this was all for her 15 minutes of fame...

She was in an interview recently where they showed clips of her prepping for the camera and she kept adjusting her bust by pushing it out and making it more visible, in your face.

I agree that these guys should have remained professional at all times and shame on them if they fell hook line and sinker. However, she knew where she would be. She should have dressed professionally.

In all fairness to both sides, I think the problem here really lies not with the players or her so much as it lies with her employer. There is an inordinate amount of demand in the Spanish networks lately for string thin thongs and barely covered busts. At the end of the day, she was just complying with the demand for how she should dress for her job to keep her audience focused on her, and not so much on what she may have to say.:r

hatchet face to be truthful. It's ALL body with her. And you can bet there is going to be
something serious that comes down from on high about this because someone said something

But those are the actual facts.

Absolutely not! He is a cancer to the team and has made it very clear that he does not want to play NT in a 3-4

I forgot that you play the 3-4, as well. I figure he'd be a Ryan type of guy and would play hard for him. He was a beast in TN. Maybe the Vikes could use a guy like him next year after P. Williams retires.

I've been to many Jets/Bills games. The best one was two years ago when the Bills had the game in the bag and for some stupid reason they decided to drop back and pass instead of kneeling, Ellis caused the fumble and ran it in for the W! Half of the stadium were already out the door, but after the Monday Night Miracle I'll never leave a game early.

What do you, IF?

Good for you on the tix! I may be in NJ next month and if so, will see if I can score a ticket.

I am really worried now. With all the (appropriate) beating both Ryan/Schotty and Sanchez took during this past week I am betting they will try to "prove" Sanchez can throw. Can you say 2 ITs this game? And that hamstring issue Revis has is a question mark as well, I think Pats will test it out first thing in the game to see how true it is before settling on the game plan (they should have 2 scenarios ready for this one).

I was about to argue how he was asked to win a game on national tv, on the road against a divisional rival in Miami.

That's how I am about the Vikes. They have all the pieces these last couple years, except for the head coach. Have NEVER liked him, and think that Frazier would be a better head coach.

Weeeellllllll......when ARE they going to play a real team?:r

Based on how they've played this year, I can't call the Vikings a real team. :(

Also, someone who can give it and take it with equal aplomb:tu

Guys who have thin skins REAAAAALLLLYYYYY shouldn't talk about sports. Especially Jets fans:r

EDIT: Not to imply you take it Carlos. Not that there's anything wrong with that, LOL

EDIT EDIT: I'll just stop talking now.

1. Since I haven't said it already, thank you for your service Vic. I have a brother in Afghanistan right now and another brother that finished his tour in Iraq in January. If it weren't for people like you, people like me wouldn't be able to enjoy the freedoms we take for granted every day.

2. You can't be a Jets fan and NOT have thick skin, I've been dealing with the hate all of my life. . . It ain't easy being green. All that I'm saying is make a point, as jaded as you are toward the Jets you HAVE to admit that they have a good team and for a second year QB that only started one season in college, Sanchez is playing pretty good.

I love seeing the haters getting more and more belligerent with every Jets win!:banger

However, a HOF QB that does not make.

I never said he was an HOF candidate... dude's been in the NFL for 1.2 years. He could get injured and be done in no time.

Define a real team, Vic. Miami was playing pretty good until we beat em, but I'd like to know your idea of what a 'real team' is.

Quick story:
Guy finds a genie.
Genie says, I will grant one wish, any wish you want.
Guys thinks about it and says, I want to live forever.
Genie says sorry, that is the one wish I cannot grant you.
Guy then says he wants to live until the Jets win another Super Bowl.
;s

This is friggin hilarious!!! :r:r

I'll be dead serious for a second. Miami isn't a good team, period. Buffalo is a bad team. Vikings are a bad team. Patriots are an aging team on the decline. The best team the jets have played they lost to.

Not necessarily their fault, but the jets again have a less than difficult schedule. Green bay and Houston are probably the toughest teams they'll face, and neither is all that scary

Dan,
Not you.
Someone else on this thread mentioned there were two HOF QB's playing that game against the Vikings.

If you counted Moss as a QB, I'd agree. :p

Another ugly one but I'll take a win on the road in Denver any day!

Sanchez did not look like the HOFer Vic seams to think he is. lol
