Oh.... so that's why the call you Admiral Douche Bag?:r

I always wondered.:D

My company has 48 season tix, so needless to say, I go to a few games each year.
My next game that I have time to go to will be 4 July. I'll be right above the First base entrance to the dugout in the 2nd row.:tu

Born a Cards fan. Grew up listening to Harry Carry with my Dad on the back porch on warm summer nights. Was a season ticket holder for 10 years. Through it all, I've always been a neurotic fan who worries every year about our starting pitching.

Good to see Holliday coming around. But, Franklin did the big choke in the 9th ... hope he's not repeating his late season problem from last year. Tony put in Motte. Blew them away with his fastballs but the guy needs a second pitch.

Gonna be a hot one today at Busch.

Didn't see it. But, the bottom line ... Carp was tough and Holliday is still on a roll.

Did anyone catch the game last night? I saw some of it, one run in the 9th seemed like a pitching duel.

Pitching was there for the good guys, but Toronto was helped out by us stranding 9 runners in scoring position.
I saw a headline that Said "Carp and Romero put on a pitching clinic", but I didn't think Romero was all of that. He allowed 8 hits and a walk, not bad, but watching the game he could have fared a lot worse if we didn't hit so many ground balls. I personally don't think he caused the grounders. It looked to me like we were a tick off at the plate. Maybe it was him throwing us off? who knows.;)

I can't wait for next week.... I'm gonna go watch the entire home stand wrapped up with watching the fireworks on the fourth at the riverfront from the stadium.:tu

Rockies rocked you, that's fer damn sure. But on the bright side, you had a part of history: According to STATS, no team in modern baseball has ever scored 9 in the 9th to steal a win . . . and your boys played their role in it. :r

How did Cueto get agianst the backstop... At the 1:00min mark Cueto is on the outside of the group watching Dusty and Larussas "conversation", at 1:07Carpenter retorts, at 1:11 Rolen quickly tries to get Carpenter away from the situation. At 1:13 Cueto makes an end run around the group and gets close to Carpenter, I can't tell what Cueto is trying to do..... Tell me what you see.....

The first week of the season they couldn't hit my grandma. Now, everybody is hot at the same time.

Saw this this morning - "They’ve had 14 or more hits in five consecutive games for the first time since Aug. 31-Sept. 7, 1930." Scored over 1,000 runs that season and won the pennant. That was a heck of a team ... Bottomley, Frisch and 10 others with a BA over .300. Btw, Dizzy Dean made his rookie debut in one game at the end of that season.

Not getting excited yet. It's a long season. But, it's nice to be back to .500.

Wow, thats a hell of a stat! I'm pretty excited too after all the frustrations just a week ago. The Cards have been a frustrating team to watch the last couple of years, winning against teams above .500 losing against the weak clubs. Not to mention leaving countless runners on base when their bullpen was pitching great and bringing out the big bats when the bullpen could not produce.

688sonarmen
04-17-2011, 05:54 AM
Great game last night for the Cards. We wore Kershaw down to just 5 innings with over 100 pitches. Played well, not sure why Berkman sat out but hope to see him today and get the sweep!

qwerty1500
04-17-2011, 09:17 AM
Berkman was 0 for 7 so far this season against lefthanders. Craig did a nice job filling his spot in the line-up ... plus he probably needed a little playing time.

Still amazed at that rookie reiever Sanchez ... he gave up a hit but struck out the side. Has now struck out 8 of the 10 batters he's faced.

These west-cost games are wearing me out ... losing too much beauty sleep. Glad today is a day game.

It was nice to win one late rather than blow a late lead. With all the bullpen troubles, it's amazing we are 4 games over .500.

The offense has been better than expected. I'm not just talking about Berkman. Rasmus seems to be finally living up to expectations ... hope it lasts. The guy that has surprised me the most at the plate is Theriot at .319. Even light hitting Punto gets a game winning triple. Go figure?

Carp pitched a good game after he settled down. Too bad he can't seem to get a win. "Gutsy" move to bring in Miller to get the last out ... the poor guy hadn't retired a batter in five games.

Gotta mention my guy Sanchez ... 17 strikeouts and only 2 walks in 10 innings ... held them scorless and got his first major league win.

Yesterday was a good game, today's not so much. But it was payback for what you guys have done to us over the years.:D

Best of luck to the Cards and despite my hatred for him, I wish Larussa the best and hope he's back soon. I truly believe that his absence had a bit to do with us taking this series.

Cards win! Split 1-1 vs the Royals in the I-70 series. Now the family and me are off to see the Norfolk Tides play the Louisville River Bats at Tides stadium. I'm rooting for the Bats being from my hometown of Louisville, even if the are the farm team for the Reds. GO BATS!

What a wild game vs the Royals. Tony seemed to think we had the win and took Garcia out early with only 83 pitches and went to our bullpen who almost cost us the game. Thank goodness that we walked our way to a win by the Royals pitchers. Not looking good though with all the broken hands and injuries we have right now, lets hope the boys can heal up and stay solid!

Been out of the loop for a couple of weeks and glad to see the boys are doing well, and Pujols is out of his "slump". Great game last night and one hell of a hit by Jake Westbrook who would have thought? Things are shaping up well for a run at the post season IF we can keep our injuries down, it's not helping losing Holliday and last night Craig. Reds need to pump it up and get back on their game, not real fun being in competition with the Brewers!

Otherwise, it's been an amazing year so far. Take a look at the standings ... best record in MLB. Enjoy it while we can.

Before the season I would have never thought that we would have the best record in baseball. Then with all off the injuries, particularly Waino, I thought we were doomed.
I've gotta give credit to the young guys. They have been making the best of their opportunities and playing well.
Should be a fun run down the stretch if we can get healthy.

We won but lost Pujols due to a sprained left wrist and it does not look good for the amount of pain he was in. He does hit well, but his position at 1st is going to be a bigger loss IMO. Lance should take 1st which is probably better than having him in the outfield and I imagine Jay will take his place. Time will tell.

Yes, it can always happen. I heard a report from the Phillys that one series does not matter in the grand scheme of things. We will see:tu Night before last at the 5th inning I thought we were done, then comes the bats! All season long the Cards have come alive while being behind and with 2 outs left in the inning, hopefully this will help in the post season. Thoughts on Pujols? I saw let him go and invest in pitching for next year.

Thoughts on Pujols? I saw let him go and invest in pitching for next year.

When the Cards played their last series in Chicago, I heard from some friends that there were Cub fans running around with Pujols printed on the back of Cubs jerseys. If they want to pay $300 million for 10 years, I'd say let them have him. Albert had an off year, BA under .300 and less than 100 RBIs. That should hurt his value unless he really goes on a tear during the playoffs ... let's hope.

Unless we can get Albert for a reasonable price, I would also like to see them spend some real cash on pitching. A real closer would be nice. Just think where we'd be if we had not had 25+ blown saves this year?

Wano will be back but with questions. Carp turned it on the end of the year. Lohse looks solid. Garcia is still too inconsistant but I haven't thrown in the towel on him yet. I'd be willing to see Jackson and Westbrook go and spend some of that $30 million on another top of the rotation guy.

Lots of good young talent in the outfield. Without Pujolis, Berkman goes to first and Craig would look good in right field. If we could fill the SS spot with a good glove and an above average bat, the infield would be solid too.

It's too early for that winter stove stuff. I'm more interested in seeing if Halladay no-hits us in the first game.

It's a flip of the coin. I can see why Tony changed the line up and put Carp in there, not that it helped much but we did break a potential win streak. I thik Oswalt is next, then we are out of the way of the Super Human Philly pitchers:r

Should be a good one tonight. Got plenty of help in the bullpen so we can't have that collapse tonight.

I thought we were going to pull out the win last night. Tony should have pinch hit for Garcia when he got out with men on base and then comes back to give up the long ball. Typical Tony. Gotta do it tonight. I'm not ready to listen to all of the Pujols contract talks yet.

Gosh ... rest doesn't seem to make much difference with this bullpen. Hope Jackson pitches the best game of his career.

My wife thought the same thing about letting Garcia hit with two men on. Hey, he had only given up three hits at that point and, maybe, Tony worries about the bullpen as much as I do. I think I was more upset about the batter he walked before giving up the HR.

The only silver lining is that the Phillies bullpen may be just as bad as ours. Lets hope Oswalt doesn't have it and we can get into their pen early.

Not ready to give up on the Cards yet.

Very true. The Brew Crew is playing like they want to give it up tonight 3 major errors so far, and would be several more if it was not for Fielder.

The Crew sort of reminded me of the 06 Series Tigers tonight. It would have been a very different game without those 4 errors. But, hey, a win is a win.

What I can't figure out is the bullpen. Tony has been quick with the hook throughout the NLCS. Is the bullpen just better than I thought? Or, has Tony just figured out how to use them against the Brewers? Or, maybe having Duncan back makes the difference?

I watch a lot of MLB Network and Harold Reynolds always impresses me with his pitcher v. batter matchup analysis. Tonight, he looked at Dotel v. Braun. When Dotel last faced him, in Game 3 I think, he got him on a diet of curve balls. Tonight, Braun didn't see a curve ball until the last one for strike 3 ... he hung that one but Braun couldn't connect. Love that cat and mouse strategy stuff. But, it tells me something about game preparation with the bullpen.

688sonarmen
10-15-2011, 07:23 AM
I don't know either. Last night I would say we were up so preserve Garcia for another game and the bullpen is getting the job done. But he has taken pitchers out in the 4th or 5th for being behind as well. Maybe at the final stretch you try and spread the workload around.

The curveballs make perfect sense, what would Braun expect? A curveball so save it for the out! But what if he is thinking what Dotel is thinking he might least expect a curveball since that's what he received last time:r

Tonight, Braun didn't see a curve ball until the last one for strike 3 ... he hung that one but Braun couldn't connect. Love that cat and mouse strategy stuff. But, it tells me something about game preparation with the bullpen.

I think the bullpen is working because Tony has an extra pitcher in there, giving him that extra option when needed! Tony brought an extra pitcher to replace an injured player that he left off the roster. I think that is a big help. Plus, the bullpen is really playing at the top of their game! Can't remember the pitcher that pitched to one batter only, but he had one *****in' slider!

Anyone catch fielders fly ball when the guy waved his arms like he was flying for out #3

Against all odds, and with the full commentator forces aligned against such a win!!! Listening to the announcers at the front of the game, you'd think there was no use watching the game, because there was NO WAY St. Louis could win!!

GO CARDS!!!!! Way to hang in there and prevail!!

Your statement is so true. I think the announcers really believed it until after game 6 when one of them said "How did this happen?" That statement and the tone gave me goosebumbs.

Yup, just heard that as well. Rumors are all ready flying as to the replacement. Red Sox's ex manager on the top of the list.

The wife is rooting for Oquendo.

Even though he still has a year left on his contract, I would be trying to figure out a way to snag Maddon from the Rays.

I figured Francona would land in STL, but after hearing that Quade got canned today, he'll probably re-unite with Epstein in Chicago.

Belated congratulations to the Cards for their 2011 Championship.

Brian Cashman has announced that the Yankees' off-season concerns are pitching, pitching, pitching, and that he has no interest in trying to improve their offense as he sees it as being sufficient already.

To me, this means Pujols in Pinstripes as DH next year. :r

Pujols in the DH role spells his death nail to me. As much as I hate the Cards right now (b/c of the Reds rivalry from 2010) I cannot wish Albert to end that way (in the dh spot). I don't want to see him end up like Dunn. He needs to be a position player, and hopefully he'll stay in STL.

It's more than a little confusing where he might go. Not so much on how tight it has been kept but what kind of person Pujols is. If it's for the money (which I doubt it is) I see the reason being to donate most of it to the charities he supports. The only other side I can see is if he really and truly loves baseball the best bet would be to go to the stud farm in the role of a DH in his later years. If he has to leave St Louis I would like to see him go to the Cubs.

As far as the Reds go....:D I might be going to the Reds St Louis game in April while I'm at my parents house near Louisville.

RIP Bob Forsch. Only 61 years old ... some of you may have seen him throw out the first pitch for game 7 last week.

Pitched for the Cards from 1974-88. Right hander with a record of 163-127 and a 3.67 career ERA with the Cards.

He is remembered most as the only St Louis pitcher to ever throw 2 no-hitters. I remember him best as a competitor ... sort of a Chris Carpenter of his day. In addition to being a gritty pitcher, he could also handle the bat ... won 2 Silver Slugger awards.

As Ozzie says ... heaven just got a new starter.

The best 200,000,000.00$ ever saved. I would have liked to see Pujols in a Cub's uniform, either way it's a good move for St. Louis. But the Angels? Really? So much for being a Cardinal for life and letting God choose his path, well maybe he is an Angel for a reason

Who said he was a waste of space?

He is 32 (maybe) 10 years from now unless he is really a machine 1st base will not be an option. St Louis can better invest the money in more players and have a more well rounded team.

I really think it is for the best. Some say he had an off year I say he is on the decline. Even if his decline is better than most in baseball agreeing to a 9-10 year contract for that $ would have been insane. Losing TLR was a much bigger loss IMHO.

Your argument might hold water if he started off like a gangbuster and slumped as the season wore on, but the exact opposite happened. Then he continued to feast on opposing pitchers in the playoffs (1.155OPS). If that's slowing down, everyone else in baseball must be in reverse.

I'm talking lifetime not season. St Louis had his best years, sad to see him go but with the money and time being offered it's still a good decision for him and St Louis.
