I'm enjoying a bowl of ice cream and now I want some water.
Anyone else crave water after ice cream? Anyone know why?

I am almost always thirsty after ice cream. I'll usually grab a soda or a water when I get some.

Isn't salt used in the ice cream making process?

I have to drink a nice glass of ice water with my hot fudge sundae at Malleys. :)
Dunno why. Most old school icecream parlors serve water.

Dunno about commercial, but in homemade ice cream you mix salt and ice/water to make a 'super chilled' slush that helps the ice cream freeze. But that's slush never touches the ice cream.

Good point. Maybe it has to do with the cold too.

I think so, but I'm not sure how much sodium actually is in the ice cream... I'll go check my wife's hageen daas in the freezer...
190 mg per serving... so not low in sodium by any means but not extremely high. I wonder if maybe it being cold and creamy makes us think that we won't need anything to drink but like most foods we want liquids with them?

Crave? Not sure about that.
But it is curious that so many of us drink cold water after ice cream.
(Great observation)

I think it's just how smoothly water clears your tongue. Not really sure.

Why add additional calories while eating ice cream?
I also enjoy water during ice cream, but I drink water with everything....

My guess would be a combination of the sugar and the coating effect ice cream has on the pallet. I read or heard somewhere, cold food requires more sugar to taste sweet than warm or hot food.

not water, but chocolate. which is probably not a good idea to do after ice cream lol

It's particularly noticeable with wine. The sugar taste is much more obvious at warmer temps.

I always thought the same thing. I'm a soda jerk but if i'm having ice cream I gotta have water, and a lot of it :)

As a diabetic, I have noticed that when sugar levels are high, I crave water. Ice cream is high in sugar.

I always feel like there is a film that needs to be washed down. I've tried soft drinks, but for some reason it always burns and feels like it bubbles up in my mouth.
