He offered to resign, Nolan Ryan did not accept the resignation. Washington has gone through the MLB drug program and has passed the drug test's. He has also requested to continue the three times a week drug testing. He has had issues with drugs over the years so this is nothing new for him.

All-Star catcher Joe Mauer and Minnesota completed an eight-year, $184 million deal.

Even though I would love to have seen him as a Yankee, it is best for baseball as a whole that he stayed with the Twins instead of going to the Yankees or Red Sox.

Minnesota Twins closer Joe Nathan will miss the 2010 season because of a right elbow injury that will require surgery.

Free agency does not suck for the players though. Free agency is definately needed, the problem is the players union has gotten too powerful. Hopefully more players will follow Joe's lead and take less money to allow a team to build around him.

In other news, the Pittsburgh Pirates took the worst loss in their 124 year history, losing to the Brewers 20-1. I was watching some of the game, it was just a beat down :bh

Yankees lost to the A's, and A-Rod p!$$ed off some crap no-name Oakland pitcher (who's old enough to shave, but obviously cannot handle that simple task :D ) by cutting across "his" mound. In the next inning, A-Rod starts the Bombers' first triple play since June 3, 1968, when it was the Bombers, and The Mick was on the back end of it, not Texiera.

Gotta say, surprising year so far. Yanks still behind Tampa, the Reds still in front of St Louis, San Diego still on top in their division, Atlanta ahead of Philly, Texas and Oakland in front of Anaheim, two perfect games and a no hitter already. Don't know if they have the money, but he could be hard to pass up. Best hitting catcher prospect since Mauer. I doubt the Pirates would sign him either, Baltimore at number three already has a pretty good young catcher, maybe KC or the Indians if they are willing to pony up some cash.

Jim Joyce admitted after the game that he blew the call after seeing the replay. Even if it was a bang bang play for the 27th out to end a perfect game the call HAS to go to the defense.

Joyce sure didn't appreciate the earfull he was getting from Miguel Cabrera between pitches after the fact. I go back forth about replay in baseball (other than HR's) and this play kind of pushed me over to the replay side of the fence. Even on a close call, which that wasn't, you'd think the umpire would error on the side of the pitcher given the fact he had already went 26 outs.

BTW - the play by Austin Jackson in center was freaking OUTSTANDING, but now will be overlooked since it wasn't a perfect game.

The MLB crew has the right idea for replay to work in baseball. It will require a 5th umpire with the immediate replays who can send a change of call down to the crew chief. No sending umpires off the field to look at the replay. It will allow for replay without the delay.

The umpire was a jackass merely for the fact that even if it was a close call to him, anyone in their right mind would have given the benefit of the doubt to a pitcher for which that was the last out for a perfect game.

Truly a shame.

That is laughable, but in all honesty I'd rather the fans have an extra pick than the managers getting any. Really though, every pick should be decided on by the players. :2

The major problem with the fans making all the selections is that people that deserve to be there often times get left off the roster unless they are from a big market team like the Yankees or Red Sox. I think the All Star team should be made up the guys that have the best numbers at this point in the season. I don't have a problem with each team being represented either.

I had to laugh out loud at your comment above. I don't do much surfing here in Fresno, three hours from the beach in 100 degree weather.

I don't think the population of indivual cities where teams are located really factors into the equation a whole lot. Instead, it's a teams history and current or recent production. We both know how many bandwagoners there are out there. In fact, my two buddies that follow baseball most are both Yankee fans.

The NFL does that and the same players seem to go every year. I don't know what the answer is to getting the most deserving players into the AllStar games of the respective sports but every league has their flaw with how they vote players in. I agree that there are flaws in every system, in every game, and every year there are guys left off the "Team" that deserve to be there. By no means, with the players voting all selections in, would it solve the problem. I just feel it's the lesser of all evils. I just can't stand how most managers pick THEIR guys or Omar Infante. It sucks for Infante, and I hope if he gets to play, that he plays well, but there are about 25 guys that should be there instead of him.
