Just had a look round the forum and couldnt find a motorcycle thread, and i thought it would be good to have one.

Motorbikes are another passion of mine and ive been riding them since i was young much to my parents dismay.

I currently have 2 bikes a 2004 aprilia rsv and a 2006 KTM supermoto!

Good to see other Supermoto guys here. No pics on this computer but I have a DRZ 400SM with a few mods. Hopefully next year I will be able to swing adding either a Husky SM510 or on the way other end of the spectrum a Ducati Hypermotard.

I'm pretty much on motororcycles as I am with cigars. Ride/smoke what ya like. That being said, my Streetglide gets it's work done at the local Ducati dealership ($15) an hour cheaper.

As I look at those bikes, they are just butt ugly to me. The bikes look like the builder just hangs parts off any spare space there is to attach some thing. I know the engineering is good, but asthetically - they have a long ways to go IMO. YMMV though.

Wow, lots of fast bikes in this thread!

I have a really slow and expensive 2000 Fatboy with a lot of chrome and Stage 2 engine mods. The engine is punched out to a 95 incher.
It makes lots of noise, sets off car alarms in the neighborhood, sends small children running from the 2 into 1 Thunder Header exhaust, and can't corner worth a crap.

Overheats as it is air cooled and I live in Florida and you could get 2 GSX'ers for the price I paid for it USED.

My 5 year old daughter just now isn't scared of it as she is scarred for life from a burn off the muffler after I told her to stand back!!!

I wouldn't trade it for the world, although that cute girl above would make me think....

Really? Sounds like it would suck for off roading.... Nothing worse than forging a creek and sucking in water halfway across. Only ever happened to me once, along time ago. :D

Just got back from 6 days, 2,123 miles in 97* heat and humidity. From VA to Memphis to B'ham, Al, back to VA. Out ran some 60 mph winds and hail by just a little bit. Great trip! What a great way to see the US.

Naw, just pics of the party I went to. I don't do much stopping when I'm traveling. If it was me, gas, beef jerky, and some water. With the wives we did a lot of long lunches, etc. I don't really have an eye for what makes a good pic. Some places are obvious but must not so much. I often see others trip pics and think, wow who would have thought to stop there and take a picture.

Amen, I pass by more cool stuff cause I'm not taking the time to stop. Of course that's usually cause I'm on my way to a destination and just want to get there. Maybe one of these days I just need to take a two month trip with no destination in mind and take the time to stop and see the worlds largest snot ball.

Finally got impatient and called Corbin. They will recover one of my old seats for half the price of buying one of their seats. Three to four week turn around time! :tu $164 vs. $329 not a bad deal IMO. The guy on the phone also told me they build up the front of the seat a little higher than the factory seat so you don't smash the boys when you jam on the brakes.

I actually sold my Corbin because of that. I found the "boys" were uncomfortable on the Corbin. The front where they build it up was the cause for pain, not the solution too. I prefer the Mustang and/or Ultimates over the Corbin.

After 10 years of riding with no incidents, it all ended last night.

Sitting at a red light, minding my own business on my 9, when this 82 year old guy slams into the back of the bike, and pushes me approx 50 feet through a busy intersection before the bike finally dumps. How nobody hit me coming the other way I'll never know.

I actually didn't know how the accident happenned at all. I was sitting there when suddenly, to me, the bike just took off like a bat out of hell, with me hanging on for dear life trying to keep it rubber side down and under control with the bike swinging wildly underneath me. Finally I lost it and down it went, smacking my head pretty hard off of the pavement. Plenty of witnesses who got me out of the middle of the road, and it was only then that I learned what happenned, the guy not only hit me, he was literally pushing me and the bike down the road in front of him. I I had gone down right away he would have just crushed me, just run right over the top of me.

: I had my head gear on, or I'd be gone.

I had a heavy leather motorcycle jacket on, and motorcycle pants which save me from some serious road rash.

I had on heavy leather motorcycle boots, with steel toes. At some point my leg must have been trapped under the bike because on my right boot toe the leather is completely gone, and about half of the steel, just ground right away. If that had been my foot in sneakers, I probably wouldn't have a foot right now.

End of the story, much confusion, police, ambulances, back boad, neck brace, clothes being cut off, iv. drips, x rays, yada yada yada. I'm banged up, my shoulder and left thumb are screwed up, but they've sent me home and it could have been so much worse.

Guys, even if you don't have to wear it, wear your gear.

Check out Mean City Cycles (http://www.meancitycycles.com/). I had my seat foam replaced with the memory foam/impact gel. I've since ridden it cross country with NO problems. I could barely last 30 minutes on the stock seat, now 8-10 hours is nothing.

Took a ride on my supermoto this weekend and was a very naughty boy. There is an old wagon trail in the hills by my house and was paved over years ago and ignored for the most part. The road is super tight, rutted, loose gravel, rolling pavement that turns into jumps if you goose it at the right moment and no cars save for the occasional f250 playing 'hogs of the road' and trying to kill you. Pretty much horrible on anything other than a dual sport or supermoto. Anyway, I swear it's the best therapy known to man just getting out and misbehaving a little once in a while. Don't get me wrong, I'm not a maniac 90% of the time I ride but that 10% really keeps me sane.

I have just about done everything to it that i want done to it. I have bored out the cylinders, ported and polish as well. A different air intake with bored out carbs. I also have in frame drag pipes. I have the domes for running alcohol but choose not to because this is the second motor that i've been thru so i've chosen to just run aviation fuel which is a much nicer burning fuel then pump. All in all i have a blast everytime i go out and ride a few dunes i shouldn't have but hey thats the fun part of battle wounds and the stories.

:banger I know what you mean. I can act up on the Duke a little but not like on the KTM. Sold the supermoto less than two months ago and I still miss it everytime I go riding. Something about a dirtbike feel on the road just makes you want to twist the throttle and act like a fool. Not having a speedometer though was a little rough at times... especially going through speed traps.

I love everything about ducatis but I couldn't drive one for more than 10 minutes. My back was sore as hell and this was towards the end of the season and I had been riding my GSXR for the entire summer so I was used to how agressive their riders stance was.

Ha! I for one cant stand Starbucks coffee. My wife drinks it, but for me it's like hot mud. I'm a gas station kinda coffee dude.

I think a lot of people bash ducati because they didn't go that route. It's a parallel with people who buy mustangs imo. Cheap horsepower. :2

I am one who really doesn't care what another rides, whatever gets you on 2 wheels and you enjoy. That being said, I get my HD worked on at the local Ducati dealership. Great mecchs and a decent hourly rate. I had my metrics worked on there as well. As I have discussed with them as I waited on work, the Ducati is a bike someone buys for the "difference".

The bikes are the crudest in a appearance that I have seen amongst modern bikes. Welding left raw (not ground and finished), parts look to be bolted on where ever their is a space on the frame it will fit, etc. Even the salesman agrees with me. Although I see a few differences in the different bikes, basically they look a like to me. I assume the engineering is as good as advertised which will make them worth the cost, but they could use a little help in the aesthetics department.

In the past 5 years I have owned 2 Hondas, 1 Yamaha and a HD. I don't have a brand that I am stuck on, just how each particular bike meets my current needs. Never understood this "alligence" thing to a manufacturer.... Well, maybe I would if they were paying me to ride it :)

While we are currently bikeless right now, I have full support from Sweetie for a Honda VTX1300 whenever we can coincide a good deal with available funds!

I'm ready for a cruiser at this stage of life. My last Bike was a 1995 Ducati 916 I bought from my FIL's estate. Sweet bike for sure, but way too uncomfortable. I got to where I would just rather drive a car. Cramped hips, sore back, etc. We bought my wife a Honda Rebel to ride along with, and she enjoyed it for a while but she's lost vision in her left eye and was just not comfortable on the bike anymore.

One day, the planets will align and I'll pick up a cruiser. Hopefully by next years' Sturgis!

Thanks for the heads up. I just got insurance today and the line at Secretary of State to register it was outlandish, so I won't be legit until Monday. Aside from testing it out in low gears around my subdivision tomorrow, I will not be doing any riding until I take the 4 mile trek to the Honda Dealership for a full inspection.

I bought her w/ full expectations of having to do some work and replace some worn parts. Since I decided to buy a vintage bike, the CB350 was my target (albeit not red). This one kind of fell in my lap and the price was right. It is pretty darn near original though, so I am happy.

Amazing what 8 settings of traction control will do for a bike. On 8, you can go around a turn, punch it, and the throttle will automatically back off if the wheel slips the slightest bit. On setting 1, you can mash the throttle and it will allow you to go off road and hit trees. :D

New handlebars (already looking for some new ones) these are a bit to much like a drag bar with extra pull back. Pics in a book are decieving. New speakers YEA, crappy HD OEM are gone. I now have treble and bass.

I am looking for new winter gloves. Looks alone do not tell you how well they actually look. Would love to see some scientific reviews on motorcycle gloves. My old ones ride well, just not warm anough and the idea of heated ones seeems like a lot of hassle.

I have never had a lot of luck with gloves that are not made specifically for motorcycles. Usually they are not articulated enough for long rides. Plus, what works for a 20 min down hill run will not work for 1 - 5 hours in the cold on 2 wheels. The ones I have are "ok", the best I have found so far, but the search continues.

After reading till the eyes are blurry on the internet, I will be ordered these today.

Tourmaster Winter Elite (http://www.newenough.com/street/gloves/insulated_and_or_waterproof/tour_master/winter_elite_motorcycle_gloves.html)

I may try a glove inner liner this year. A lot of people seem to have luck with them, but I hate bulk.....

newenough.com is an excellant place to shop from and I have had superior experience with the Tourmaster products. They peform exactly as one would expect, made by mototrcycle people for those who ride.

Winter is:

Firrst Gear HT Overpants - I do not like the look of the latest version, but damn they perform. Warm and dry

Tourmaster Jacket similiar to the Flex series (again the new stuff doesn't look as good).

Schampa balacava (with long bib) toasty :)

Fleece lined blue jeans in the 20's and below.

I can usually ride in the 30's and into the 20's comfortably with some clothing layering. It's the gloves that kick my a$$ (long rides get the Walmart hunter chem heater inserts). We will see what these new ones will do.

Oh, no... Explain. :D I'm guessing the Yoyodyne is a clutch and the Brembo must be brakes. I found a guy out in Cali who makes some nice carbon fiber accessories. I just got a nice hugger from him and now I'm waiting for some screws to put it on.

banger

It's a billet Brembo radial master cylinder and the plunger/post thingy bent when I crashed a Sears Point a while back. Had to get a rebuild kit and lever from Yoyodyne and they sent the wrong parts, plus the one that was correct was missing a tiny little threadded barrel that helps to hold the lever on. Strangest lever/master cylinder relationship I've ever seen. You'd think for a big buck fancy pants part the design would be a bit cleaner.

Who's the guy in Cali? Maybe I've heard of him.

Cold is no reason to stop riding :)
I am looking for new winter gloves. Looks alone do not tell you how well they actually look. Would love to see some scientific reviews on motorcycle gloves. My old ones ride well, just not warm anough and the idea of heated ones seeems like a lot of hassle.Recently got a pair of the Olympia Cold Throttles, supposed to be wind proof and waterproof. I can say that they aren't very bulky at all and like them a lot.

Have had some mornings here already where it's below 30 when I left for work (5 am), and while my hands got cool, they were never cold. I'm imagining that' probably colder than it gets by you in the dead of winter. Can't speak to the rain proof cause I haven't got caught in the rain with them yet, but if you can find a dealer with them near you I'd check them out.

It was 42* when I rolled out this morning - not to bad. Still using the chaps, the warm clothes will have to be broke out shortly though.

As of five pm yesterday I am a motorcycle owner again. Picked up a 1972 CB350. Can't wait for the inspection so I can ride.

That was the first real street bike I ever road. It belonged to a friend of ours back then his parents wouldn't let him keep it at their house so he kept it at mine. I use to ride it all the time. In '73 I bought a new CB500 Four in Sunrise orange. In '74 a roommate "borrowed" it and crashed it. I built it into a chopper.

It went from this:

To this:
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v148/mscales/Mikes%20Bike/MyCUstom500-1.jpg

That is my '65 Corvette Coupe in the background. I built the bike on a modified Amen softail frame (first softail frame I know of) I molded and painted. Sorry for the pic but it was scanned off a Polariod from back in '74.

I have been riding something since mini bikes in the oil fieilds. I now have a Honda '05 VTX1300 (80ci) and man is it nice to ride.

From what I understand - not a good match for a motorcycle rider. Hard to steer and kinda boring. Shoot Tbone on here a PM, he rides a goldwing trike and speak about them better than I can. He loves his.

I have ridden the spyder. It is a vary stable bike, was surprised by the handling. There is an optional touring setup for it. If a trike is all you can ride and dont want the big touring, I would ride the spyder.

I have the same name there so come on in and check out the bikes.

I rode a VTX 1300 for about 2 years. Moved to a Yamaha 1700 from that. The VTX is teh standard well built honda. Very dependable and made a couple of multi thousand mile trips on it. Should last you a long time.

Looking at buying my first road bike. Just going to get a sportster, but I need help. Is it wise to buy a late 90's bike to save money over an early 2000's? Keep in mind I plan on changing most the forward controls and gauges immediately...have they really changed enough to justify the extra money?

Finally got around to rebuilding my Duc from my 2008 wad-a-thon at Sears Point late 2008. Thought it was all done save for the pegs I'm having made. Fired it up and it immediatly started gushing gas from the bottom of the tank. Apparently the quick release gas lines got nicked or got hard. No biggie, I'll just a couple news ones.

Ring ring, 'Hello Mr Ducati parts counter guy, I need new quick release gas line thingies."

'Sure, they are $60. Each.'

"Click."

:(

Okay so I didn't really hang up but I did have a minor stroke.
