Lead off man on three innings in a row.
Thrown out stealing on one.
Two men on no outs next inning, no one scores.
Lead off man again third inning, now Teixeira is going to strike out.
Yup, one more strike and it is over.

Bad call at second on Swisher so they made it up with a bad call on third with Swisher.

True that.
First - I'm a Yankee fan.
But how the hell the 3rd base umpire doesn't call both runners out is beyond me. Since when can you be off the base and not be called out? Holy crap.
The appeal at third with Swisher clearly shows he left after the catch but it was extremely close. While he blew the call, as a sports official, I know how difficult those calls can be. But the missed play at third just boggles my mind.

I figure it's safe to come out now. Sorry I couldn't join the banter tonight, but some of you I'm sure can understand. Needed to go "old school" for a big win, no phone calls, no internet, hat on when NYY at the plate, hat off when Angels at the plate, NYY sweatshirt on all night, no channel surfing between innings or at any other point for that matter, etc., etc., etc.
Terrible calls tonight by Ump.'s and the worst, the two by McClelland (who BTW is the crew chief!).
Bottom line:
Overpowering pitching by CC
&
A-rod is really playing all facets of the game like a man possessed.
That is all, off to bed here.

Can't figure out for the life of me how he was able to say foot was off the bag too early when his face was dead on left field and was not looking at the runner or bag.

Say what you want about the Yankees payroll, Teixeira WAS an Angel, Damon gave the Redsox a Wirld Series with a grandslam against the Yanks, for a couple more million, A-Rod was a Red Sox, and we would all be watching a different series.

I love the payroll argument.
Sort of the "wealth redistribution" argument of baseball fans.
Yankees suck because they have revenue, they spend it as they please in an attempt to win, and generally, are successful as evidence by their history.
So........when I hear that argument......I laugh. Deep down, they wish their team made as much money and their owner spent as much.

I wasn't saying it's a bad thing. :)
It sure makes a heck of a story when a bunch of scrubs step up and spank the Yanks, though.
It's just a given that they own the World Series, cause they paid for it.
I love watching good ball, too, and the Yanks sure delivered this year. It's been an amazing season for them.
That game last night, for instance. It was a thing of beauty. I definately got my money's worth, and I ain't got a dime in it. :D
The Angels definately threw the kitchen sink at them, even if they came up way short.
I did hear a comment Buck made about Scott Kazmir that I'm still shaking my head about. He said the Angels picked up Kazmir specifically because he was a Yankee stopper. I must have missed that along the way.
Kazmir has never played up to my expectations, and I really never had any. :r

Funny how that all works out.
Freaking Diamond Backs and Marlins!!! Thorns. Or Boston in '04. Thorns!!!
When we get one, we bought it.
When we don't, we overpaid and didn't get it.
Meantime, anyone check the payroll of the Mets as an example?
Where did they end up this year?
Quite a few others like that.
It happens. Money doesn't always do it. However, like they say with the Lotto, you have to be in it to win it.:D
That is funny stuff there about Kazmir.

The small market teams could sign players also with all the money they get from the Yankees, Red Sox, Mets & Dodgers. Their owners prefer to pocket the money instead of putting it back into the team. The Steinbrenners would rathder lose money on the team if it meant winning and making the fans happy.

There are half-a-dozen teams that spend money like drunken sailors, not just the Yankees. The biggest difference is that, when the Yanks make a mistake (can you say "Carl Pavano", for instance?), they have both the will and the means to eat the error and attempt to correct it with another move. Other teams just shrug and say "Wait 'til next year."

Not unless the Yanks trade him. He can opt out of his current contract after three years. He'll likely do that anyway to squeeze more money out of the Yanks but I don't see him leaving NY anytime soon. No one else can pay him as much as we do!

I wouldn't. The last thing the Yankees need is another ageing outfielder. They have Swisher signed thought 2010, and they will have to decide on Damon & Matsui, both put up numbers to make it hard to let them go away even thoug hthey are old and brittle. Plus they still need to see what they have in Austin Jackson.

I agree completely. If I was Cashman this is what I would do next year after we win the WS this year. I would not sign both Damon and Matsui ( I believe they are both making $14 million this year). I would take the savings and go after John Lackey (6 years $100 million). I would promote Austin Jackson from AAA to play left and have Melky and Gardner platoon at center with Swisher at right. I would resign Pettite for one more year. The pitching staff would be CC, AJ, Lackey, Pettite and either Joba or Hughes with one of them going to the bullpen as a set-up man for Mo.

Yankees started off bad. AJ had his 5th inning in the first tonight. He definately settled down after that. The Yankees offense had one nice inning and the only person in the bullpen that can get anyone out now is Mo. Going to game 6 in da Bronx. The Yankees need to win this Saturday.

Why did Boston fail? Was it the bats or the arms?

I only caught the first two innings and last two innings last night.
My ass has still not unpuckered. Talk about taking it to the last pitch. Bases loaded, full count, meat of the order, it was like a script.
I have to go look at the box score and see what that 6 run Yanks inning was all about.

All bats. Arms were good, even great at times.

That inning is all I watched. :(
CSI went off and I switched over to the game, saw a 4-0 lead get blown away in a single inning that felt like a week, and turned it off. Didn't sleep well either, kept having nightmares about NY winning the World Series. :(
Now I wish I'd kept watching the game! Go Angels!!!

I watched the game on my iPhone with 15 second updates from MLB.com. Kinda exciting and different waiting 15 seconds to read every pitch with the bases loaded in the 9th and down 1 run.
Had to take my little girl to the pediatric emergency room with an ear infection from the flu she has been fighting and they don't let you touch the tv's, understandably, from children shows.
Thankfully she's ok and the celebration gets to happen on our turf. ( I hope..)

You just don't get it. Yankees don't believe in curses, jinkes, ghosts, goats, all that garbage. They go along because others seem to, so it may give them an edge. Yanks believe in fielding the best team they possibly can, then playing the game.

OK, maybe. Maybe not.
Coaching is a great thing but pitching wins ball games so the Lackey concern should be a valid one as that is now a tough void.
To all the "payroll" arguments, I laugh.
The rules are simple. The Yankees abide by them. Because they choose to recklessly spend money to fill seats and somehow, it magically works, which in turn gives them more money to go and increase their payroll yet more, how is that a bad thing?
Oh, yeah, it is in fact a bad thing when your owner of your team can't keep up. Somehow, that is now unfair. Life is unfair.
However, there is a simple solution. Join us on our side and become a Yankees fan. What a great feeling.
