today was a bad day, lots of pain on my left side of my belly. Couldn't sleep, couldn't walk, couldn't sit without pain. Pain seems to be gone now, hopefully it stays that way.

That's awesome man. Reason I bumped this is because I'm going in tomorrow morning for my RNY bypass. Was just looking for info, and figured I'd see how you were making out, hehe. I have actually lost 40lbs pre-op in 3 months, and my goal is to lose another 80. 365SW/323.8CW/240GW

good luck on that. My surgery can't be compared though, different technique. With a bypass there are much more difficulties and complications, diet wise. You will always have to avoid certain food while I can eat anything, just small portions. And I can't eat fat fastfood 3 days in a row as I will get the runs, but I never liked fastfood 3 days in a row anyway.

NeuRon
09-13-2011, 02:06 PM
And what exactly did you have?

BTW, i rather not be "able to eat anything", like you say you can.. At that stage, whats the point?

Don Fernando
09-13-2011, 04:24 PM
I had a Duodenal Switch.

the point is that I eat way way less, and that everything I eat is filtered due to the surgery. The point? I can eat anything I like and still lose weight. It doesn't have any negative effects on my social life, as I am able to go out to dinner with friends and dates (just skip the appetiser, eat the small steak, leave the site dishes and skip desert instead of eating everything). Friends who had the gastric bypass are more limited in their options than I am, that's why I went for the Duodenal Switch, even though it included 2 surgeries instead of one.

NeuRon

i dont want my social life to be based around food and dinner parties anymore..

Don Fernando
09-14-2011, 05:06 AM
my social life isn't based on it, but it is nice to be able to go to a dinner party every now and then, or have a business lunch/dinner on occassion. Or take a date out to dinner and not have her be uncomfortable because you can't eat anything.

Health just hit a bump this weekend. I fainted sunday, without a warning whatsoever. Went to see the doc, my blood pressure is low and he wanted me to see a cardiologist. The cardiologist noticed a low heart rate after doing an ecg, so I'm scheduled for more tests.

The fainting and low heart rate is common for those who lose tremendous amounts of weight. You lose heart muscle mass and that's not good. You'll probably find yourself on a high protein regimen soon.

update. Since the faiting in september I fainted once again in february. They did some extended testing (14 days of monitoring, heart echo etc etc), my heart is fine, it is just low blood pressure and I'm gonna have to learn to live with that.

On the bright side, today I stood on the scale and it said 100 kilo (220lbs) which is a big deal to me, so close to a 2 digit weight which has been a dream for a long time :wo

Ferdinand, great job with the weight loss. Sorry about your blood pressure though. A lot of people are affected by this that lose a substantial amount of weight. To me it sounds like you may be fainting due to orthostatic hypotension. Basically means your BP drops significantly when you go from a sitting or laying position to an upright position causing the fainting. Hope it has become less troublesome and good luck in your hopes for plastic surgery.

Great to hear things are moving forward for you brother!

Does beer still hit your stomach with the same aftershocks as it did years ago? :D

Any plans to visit the US in the next few years? Or are you going to make me wait ~5 years untill I make it out to Amsterdam with my wife? :tu (yes, we've got a trip planned, but it's a solid 5 years in the future)

No beer for me, beer and my intestines are the only two ingredients you need to a Hiroshima like disaster.

No plans for the US, now that I have an Asian girlfriend all my vacations will be spend east.

went to the hospital today, for my 6 month check up. Had a spectacular weight loss the last few months, about 13kg/28lbs and i'm at 97kg now. Its been since my teens that I was below the 100kg.

for now the insurance refused the skin surgery but I'm fighting their decision with help of my doctors. I still have hope.

That Amsterdam herf might have to become a Singapore herf, if my wife and I lose the custody battle of her little girl I will sell my house and move there.
