View Full Version : Illusione cg:4 Review

Some of the inmates here recommended that I pick up an Illusione cg:4, so I grabbed a box at Georgetown Tobacco this afternoon.

The cg:4 is a smooth, pretty stick with with some small veins that don't detract from the look or feel. It has a nice prelight draw with a pleasant fig flavor.

Right off the bat, the cg:4 had an amazing sweetness with the perfect amount of spice. In fact, it had one of the most balanced and pleasant flavors that I have ever tasted. The ash, however, doesn't hold too well, and as you can see from the pictures below, it routinely fell off after only a ¼ of an inch.

I got up to get some coffee, and when I came back, the sweetness was gone! In its place was a very full leather flavor that reminded me of a gurkha (in a good way). The smoke got a lot thicker and creamier, too.

The burn was even for the entire 90 minutes that it took me to nub this one.

Overall, the cg:4 is an amazing smoke, and for $6 a stick, it's a good bang for your buck. The flavor profile is complex, and I love how the sweetness in the first half of the stick pairs with the leathery second half.

I probably never would have discovered this one without the BOTLs here at CA, so thanks guys.

Nicely done! I'm making my way thru the whole Illusione line & the cg:4 ranks right up there. I had one this weekend and the first half tasted like Cheerios! Nice spice and underlying sweetness like you noticed, too.

I've found that all the Illusiones seem to have the same problem with the ash. What I really like about them, though, is that they are full-bodied while you're smoking them, but their aftertaste doesn't linger around long when you're done.

Got one of these at the Massphatness herf a few weeks ago. Really looking forward to burning it.

Thanks for the review.

I was not impressed with the cg:4 I had last night. Way too sweet for me. The sweetness did however fade well after the half way point but by then it was too late.

Im not sure these are worth the price.

Monday night I smoked one of these gifted by TRicker that was over a year old.

WOW! What a difference. I liked it fresh, loved it rested. So much so that Im gonna order a box and stash them away.

Tip: Buy them and stash them in the bottom/back of your vino/cabinet/cooler and forget about them for a year. Your patience will be rewarded!

The 68's are an amazing smoke for their size

I realize this is an ancient thread revival, however I found it to be just due to the fact that this review is exactly what I am experiencing with a cg4 right now. Except my ash is lasting about and inch longer.
Great review, I really noticed the sweet in the beginning and the nice leathery flavor in the end. I like this cigar!

I just had to do a relighting at the end of the second third. Kinda wierd but after a light perge it still tastes great.

I actually liked this better than the 88s, just my personal preference.
I know people rave about the 88s, I just thought they were okay.

Great Review!

Illusione makes so many different types of sticks and I wouldnt have a clue which one to try first.

I think this will be at the top of my list of Illusiones I try when I graduate to these premium type of stick one of these days.

Nice review.
I enjoy their smaller ring-guage sticks most.
MK, HL and 68 are my Favs.
The Epernays are one of my all time "Go-To" sticks also.

Very sad....since I posted to this thread in October, I've had about a dozen of these....probably 7 to 9 had construction issues. I've been very disappointed with the construction of the core line in recent months. An Illusione without a tunnel or canoe is a special cigar, but also, increasingly rare.

He guys. I posted this in another forum, and will post here as well.

Normally, construction issues are a rarity when it comes to my cigars. As a matter of fact, I'm at the Airport on my way to Nica/Hondo. I will hand deliver this thread and we will make sure they get what you guys are saying. As ALWAYS with my cigars, if you ever have issues in the future, please take them back to your place of purchase. All AUTHORIZED illusione retailers should replace the affected product. NO QUESTIONS ASKED. This is my guarantee to you.

Best -

Dion.

Dion,
Thanks. I was the one who started the thread over at the other place, so I apologize for 'piling on' over here. I hadn't seen your remarks over there yet. I greatly appreciate your personal attention to this. It has been sad for me, as I think you have some of the best blends anywhere. Good luck on getting this fixed. Thanks again.

Got a box of these coming in tomorrow. Love this cigar. Never had any issuses in the past so hopefully that stays true. But they are a hand made product so anything is posssible .Its nice to know the owner stand behind them if there is an issue.
