I'm sorry but I have to agree on this one and you know that I was a big fan of your posts and reviews in the past and find you to be informative and humorous. I do feel however, that you are losing that better part of yourself with your recent posts and comments. Maybe this is the hint to tone it down that should be listened to. I like the regular plain old easy going legend that used to post here and I know a lot of BOTLs did too.

Update: Due to business(good thing) I am canceling the tour to Don Pepin factory in May(bad thing). However, I will go sometime, it's just not feasible right now, have at least 2 national Clients trying my business out and need to make sure everything goes perfect for a while.

This Friday I did speak with don Pepin at the event at Zarka's. don Is a very nice soft spoken guy, no English, I did my best with the 4 years I took of Spanish and a translator. Don said while others may provide a slightly higher quality to the Smaller shops, It's not something done at his factory, he refuses even to produce 2nds. Anything that is not up to quality is cut up and used in short filler production.

So that's it for now, will have to check in with some of the other factories when i can.

1. Side by side tests. I've taken a number of internet cigars into my lounge and bought the same cigar there and smoked them side by side. Even had a few botl try it too and we all thought the local one was better. Even in blind tests.

2. Botl had gone to Honduras and Dominican republic and reported that locals(workers at the factories) had stated that inferior tobacco and piles left laying around in the factory were for internet cigars.

3. Just conjecture here but I think to myself as a businessman. First the big guys want these incredible discounts. Need to use surplus and extra tobacco.

Your conjecture, if I draw it out to it's logical conclusion, is that Rocky, Nestor, Nick, etc., keep two stocks of the same cigar; one for the big internet shops, and another, the superior cigar, for the B&M. Personally, I doubt that would last for very long without being "found out." There's too many well informed people in this hobby to keep something like that secret. I think the care, storage & aging scenario is far more plausible.

You seem to have "misunderstood" him, for it is impossible to produce cigars without some that do not pass a high construction or appearance standard, being handmade. I did read this thread....... And you cannot say "I don't make seconds" and then relay what is done with the ones you produce. Perhaps hes said "I do not sell my seconds to retailers." If in fact that is what he said.
