Default Tobacco Of the Month Club

Hey guys,

I am looking for participants in a Tobacco Of the Month Club.

Here are the guidelines.

For right now, I would like to shoot for five people to sign up to get things up and going.

To participate:
  • You should have at least one positive trader feedback (and no negatives) and a minimum of 25 posts.
  • If you do not meet the minimum requirements (notice, I myself don't) you can still participate if you have been an active member of the forums at Club Stogie (aka Puff.com). Most of you I will recognize your user ID. If I do not, I will pm you on Puff.com to confirm your identity.
  • Post in the thread to sign up as a Monthly Tobacco Reviewer (MTR).

Procedure:
  • The Tobacco Sample Provider (TSP) for the month chooses a tobacco for the month.
  • The chosen tobacco should be of premium quality and non-aromatic.
  • Samplers should be sent out to the Monthly Tobacco Reviewers (MTRs) containing a sample of 3-4 bowls of the chosen tobacco.
  • Tobacco samples should be sent out by the end of the first week of the month to ensure timely reviews.
  • The TSP should not label the tobacco or post what kind of tobacco it is. This should be a blind review.
  • The MTRs will post a review of the sample by the last day of the current month. Guesses about what the tobacco is are ok, but the focus should be more on evaluating the quality and tastiness of the tobacco.
  • Once the end of the month rolls around, the TSP will post information on what tobacco was sent and will pick the highest quality review posted (in their opinion) to be the next TSP.

Purpose:
  • This T.O.M. Club serves several purposes. It encourages ongoing participation in the tobacco reviewing process, it gives members a chance to try different tobaccos and do blind tasting (which I think helps develop the ability to taste nuances in tobacco), and it gives us an opportunity to build up our trader feedback.

So without further ado, sign up!

Good point! I still haven't decided yet. I just put in an order from pipesandcigars, so well see if I take it out of there or go for something else in my cellar.

I am leaning towards a VA I have in my cellar though.

Glad to have you aboard!

One other thing, when we get five signed up and are good to go for this month, I will start a TOMC thread for February so we can keep the signups in here but each month can have its own thread. That will hopefully keep it a little clean in here.

Are you allowed to hop in and out as you need to or would it be more of a long term type deal.

In and out, though anyone who participates should be willing to be the TSP at least once. IE if your review gets picked as the best, you are up next.

I am also kicking around the idea of having the MTRs PM me with their review and posting the review anonymously myself and letting the forum members vote on the best one through a poll.

Anyway in specific answer to your question, you could get in on this month and either get picked to be the TSP next month or not get picked and get out.

Let me know if that doesn't make sense. Its late and I am playing MMORPGs while posting here.

So far only two are signed up, so it doesn't really matter.

For now I am limiting it to five guys, if there is enough interest, I will either expand it to more guys or start two sign-up lists with two different TSPs.

Sign up Frank, then it will be three! Join the darkside, we have cookies.

Ok, I'll try my best to review! I'm a bad reviewer thats why I don't do any reviews.

But Just to get this through my thick cranium! How it goes is that you send a sample to the 5 then based on the best review (say Greg has the best review) He then sends a sample to the 4 to review and so on...

Thanks for signing up mate. I know you from CS, so your good.

Your understanding is somewhat correct. Whoever has the best review this month will be responsible for providing the baccy to review the next month. The same people can stay on or stop and others can join.

I was just browsing on CS and considering how you won the lottery TWICE IN A ROW, maybe you should be the TSP with all of that extra baccy you have hanging around!

Just giving you crap you lucky SOB.

LOL
That was some kind of luck! I do have a good English picked out for everyone to try.

One other question! The tobak sender does not do a review only the receiver?

I will prob do a review just for kicks. The other idea I was kicking around was getting a group of guys together and going month by month. Each participant mails the other four or five participants an anonymous sample of the same baccy, only telling the genre (so we don't foul up a va pipe or whatnot).

This would be kind of fun because everyone would be giving some and getting some and if we had five people participating, that would equal five reviews of five different baccys, so 25 reviews total.

Might be fun to do it like that, what are your guys' thoughts?

That sounds a little cumbersome and that most of my smoking would be taken up by tobacco I'm suppose to review.

I think that would mud up the taste buds to much, You know? We should stick with one type to review.

Bumpity, we need a few more BOTLs wanting to participate.

If we don't get any more hits by the end of the week and through the weekend, we will go with what we've got. I plan on getting the tobac out on Monday, 2/9/2009.
