Default Colibri Switchblade Cutter

I bought a Colibri Switchblade (Rose Gold) a couple of months ago from my local B&M. I like the design and it appears to be made out of quality materials including the 440 stainless steel blades.

But I never thought it made good cut. The one I have always seems to have a bit of play in the blades which caused the poor cut. It's like the cigar gets twisted between the blades. The blades pivot on a single bolt at the bottom of the cutter and this bolt seems to work loose over time. I have tried to tighten it a few times and the cut is a bit better after that but still not good.

I finally put the thing away and bought a Cuban Crafters cutter which works really well.

I spoke with the tobacconist and he'll replace it for me with no problem.

I'm curious, are other folks having this issue with these cutters? Or do I just have a bad one? I hate to swap it for another if I can expect the same trouble. I'm sure he will give me another design if I ask him to.

I stopped using cutters. Punch is the way to go or a V cutter for torpedo's...but that's me

I've heard similar complaints about the Colibri Grip, which, judging by the photos, appears to be the same or almost identical to the Switchblade. So, you aren't alone, but I don't know how widespread the problem is.

If I was going to use a double guillotine cutter, I'd use a Palio. Flawless cut every time.

My cutter of choice though are the Xikar MTX scissors. Easy to control how much or how little you want to cut off, sharp, flawless cuts every time, and they are so dang compact when folded up.

I have seen how highly recommended the Palio so I'll probably get one of those to play with.

Those scissors look interesting. When folded are they the size of a credit card or so?

I kind of enjoy fooling with a variety of gadgets, so I'll probably try both of these before long.

For no more than it cost i'm impressed with the Cuban Crafters Cutter. I think I paid about $11 which included shipping. It does a pretty nice job.

Actually folded down the majority of the MTX would fit under a quarter. Also, if you keep an eye out, you can get them on sale for around $20

I have one almost just like this. It is the yellow CI one. I found that the faster you make the cut the better. I don't use it that often thought. I carry a lighter with a built in punch for less pocket clutter.
