I've been thinking about buying some silver. I'm not quite sure where and what to buy. Do you invest in bars or coins?

I'm a big fan of bars only because I like to make larger purchases. I would recommend starting with coins like American silver eagles and Canadian maple leaves.

A mixture of 1oz generic silver bars/rounds. I buy Silver Eagles here and there, but hate how you pay a premium on them. Generic stuff works for me. How about you?

I started with a lot of generic 1ozs, moved to mostly eagles (had a dealer near me that only asked .50 over for them, now stick to mostly 10oz and 100oz name brand bars.

Done very well in Palladium, bought in around 240/oz, its tripled since, and I still recommend palladium. Eventually China will need to start putting pollution controls on everything from cars to factories and Palladium will be needed in quantity. And there isn't much of it to start with.

Platinum is at a high point, and the noble metals are pretty interchangeable for pollution controls, so I wouldn't buy in to Platinum now.

Rhodium is historically very, very low at current prices and an excellent investment if you can get into a rhodium pool (rare), get rhodium sponge (rarer) or rhodium bars (rarest). They are harder to sell at their peak, however.

Of course, this is all simply opinion and not intended to be investment advice!

The best online place is APMEX.com I also buy from ebay when I find a deal, but mostly from a local coin shop by my house and on the Equipment Exchange on AR15.com

I occasionally sell with no premium, maybe Ill start asking here in case there are any interested parties. Never thought about posting about silver on a cigar forum!

I have purchased from APMEX before, they are recommended.

That's not bad depending on what your buying. Is that for 1oz coins?
