Default Looking for opinions....

I know, I'm asking for it....

I've given up on gas grills.
Constantly a PIA, so I'm considering a charcoal one like this

What do you think??

We have an older version of this, no charcoal holder, no thermometer and no ignition, but otherwise the same. This thing has been in service for at least 10 years, outside, uncovered and it still looks almost as good as it did when it was new and every single feature of it still performs flawlessly.

Here is what I've had for the past year and I'm very happy with it. For 40$ you can get the side fire box and turn it into a smoker which is what I use it for when I'm not grilling. There is plenty of info online about making mods for it to reach its full potential as a smoker. Either way it's very sturdy and it's handled the elements well over the past year. Home Depot and Lowes sells them too.

Char-Broils aren't bad for light to moderate use. Metal is a little thin though. Depends on how much use you put it through and how hard your winters are on it (if you leave it outside).

If you go with a Char-Broil, there is an add on smoker drum that hangs on the end that costs I think about US$50 that will allow you to use the rig as an offset smoker also.

I know you said you've given up on gas, but I have a dual gas/charcoal grill. It's a Char-Griller. Had it for over a year and love it. Here's a post I did that has it in the background:
My baby.. Plenty of grilling space. You can adjust the height of the charcoal. Easy to clean. And you can get a smoker box that hangs on the side. Only thing I didn't like about it is that the cover degrades quickly. Having the gas option for quick grilling is nice, too.

Just my

Good luck!

I bought a Weber performer off of Craig's List last fall for $65 that was in great shape. It's from 1995 with the stainless steel table and gas ignition system. I love it!

I need to put my gasser on Craig's List since it's just taking up space in the garage now.
