Many documented cases of birds messing up engines on planes really badly.

I'm on 31st and 9th and I can't see it from the 18th floor roof of my building! I got my brand new camera with me too!

Right, but how does that happen? Engines are powerful. Birds are not. It must have something to do with the collision speed

It is still floating down it seems.
They are holding it afloat as I guess the NTSB is not going to let that plane go down only to have to pull it out later.
It seems it is being towed to a spot it can be recovered.

That is an amazing story... I am very thankful for that pilot's skills.

Yea I've had a bird go through the engine of my helicopter before. It really messes up your compressor blades. No compressed air no engine. Glad everyone is ok. Airbus is know for their ability to glide and make good emergency landings.

Tell you what, it has sparked my curiosity.
Perhaps some BOTL pilots can expand.
I would think it impacts the blades on the engines which in turn cause the engine to shred as result of its own debris being sucked in.

We're not talking about a robin here, either. He hit a flock of geese.

Well, there is our answer. Interesting those small things can bring a big "bird" down.

Thanks.

Article said that striking a 4 pound bird at 200 mph had a force of 6 tons. Those geese go upwards of 15 pounds.

Probably more than one bird. If you go through a flock and suck in several birds under take off(full power) conditions its possible to knock a blade off. And once one blade goes its over..

Heres what happens when a blade lets go..

For those that lived the 60's or 70's, if they thought that was crazy, the freaking 80's were nuts with groups like this.
I saw them a while ago on that VH1 show where they try to get bands together again for one show but the two brothers that found this group despise each other. Good thing.
