Default Re: Is anyone else OCD with their ashtrays?

I like mine to be clean.
All the cigarette smokers that roll through here hog them up big time and it grosses me out. When it gets completely out of hand I make them clean them.

You know, Darrell, I am a bit OCD with 'em. I have two, one for upstairs, one for downstairs (outside on the deck). After using them, I dump the ash & gars into my sandpails (again, one up, one down), blow off whatever extra ash is left and wipe them down with a paper towel. Both of my ashtrays have the felt bottom (my CAO Cubist & the H. Upmann and I keep the CAO in the felt bag it came in when not in use) so I just haven't thought about washing them until now but chippewa has me thinkin'.

Makes total sense though. Usually, I'm only smoking at home with mrsreindeer or one buddy in particular so I haven't been terribly concerned about germs but it makes ya think!

Thanks!

Nope. I haven't ever cleaned mine. I just dump the ashes out. I should clean it though b/c when it rains, the water collects in it and some ashes stick to it.

Here is a pic of my dirty Oliva ashtray while smoking an Oliva V Maduro:

i am. i smoke cigarettes and garz. i will NOT use an ashtray while smoking a gar that has cig butts in it. when i go to fire up a gar, my ashtray(s) must be flawlessly clean! i will clean them with soap and water and dry them off, making sure there is not one speck of water anywhere on it, including the bottom.

Never clean. I have a big coffee can in the garage where all the ash tray contents are dumped after a smoking session. Ash trays are meant to look and smell like ashes, thus the name.

I've never "washed" the well of my Cubist ashtray. I've have wiped off the outside and top with a damp cloth at most. So I guess I'm at the other end of the spectrum.

I clean mine after every cigar. I hate the smell of stale cigars sitting in an ashtray. It also seems like the smell doesn't dissipate until the ashtray is empty.

Will dump my Stinky when it is about half full. It has been wiped down with a wet towel twice in a year.

It does look very shinny when it is clean, but with it out in the Man Shed, I don't usually care. The Wifey is banned with her cigs in my ashtrays also.

My ashtray has to be clean. Normally just soap and water, but I have been known to put it in the dishwasher.

Maybe because my friends in NC only empty their ashtray after ash starts to fall onto the floor.

I actually just MT'd the courtyard Stinky this afternoon. The ashes were kinda starting to spill over the sides.

However, after dumping the corpses, I did wipe it down with windex and paper towels and it's spotless again (except for that one new corpse).

So I guess I must be more borderline OCD, right?

I'm with you Darrell.
I wash (with soap), wipe and dry my ashtray's after each and every smoke session(then they get placed in their designated area). My wife just stares at me while I'm at the sink and shakes her head. I wipe the blades of my Palio and Xikar cutters with alcohol pads each week. I rotate my lighters after one is used (that way they all get a chance to play). I dust my cabinet humi and desk tops every other day. I've got it bad my friend.
It's my ritual and I like it!!!

I'll wash out the stinky every now & then (HEY-O!!!!!); but I'm not OCD like MD.

The stinky usually has: ashes, butts, napkins, empty beer cans, & beer caps.

Yet, I know to be on good behaviour at MD's herfs. Only ashes in the Stinky. Totally gonna throw some hot wings in there though.

I use a single cigar ashtray most of the time. Each time I light up I dump the old butt and ashes into my big big stinky and wipe out the single ashtray to use currently. Once the stinky is full, it gets dumped and they both get a bath.

When I was a ciggarette smoker I'd dump and wipe the ashtray out after every other cig or so. My buddies were all bartenders and it just became habit.
